I just got my hands on some 36 gauge kanthal today and managed to create a 5 ohm coil in a phoenix clone. My provari is pumping the coil with 6 volts over a silica wick with some AV Havana Gold and OMG!!!! Fan-^%^-ing-tastic!! Best tasting vape I have ever experienced!

My question is, is it a problem having the resistance this high???? Anybody else doing this or is this a bad idea? I searched around and couldn't really find anything...

Thanks in advance!

the only slight problem I see is that a coil will tend to rise in resistance as it ages and if you are already at 6v on the provari, once that coil starts to get to 5.2-5.5ohms then the vape won't be as nice and ya have no "room" left in the Provari's voltage range to adjust for it.

Might be able to use 34g or 32g wire and wrap a 3.5ohm coil, then you could vape at 5v (should give about the same watts and coil wraps that you have now) and still have some room left to adjust the voltage as it goes up.

Final answer: nothing "wrong" with running resistance that high, if it works that great for you then rock-n-roll!! Could you get that same vape with a slightly different wire and give you a bit more longevity/adjustability for the coil?......yup.
