Hello!
Just wanted to introduce myself, I'm from Nova Scotia, and have smoked for 38 years, a package a day. Last week they went up to 16.70 for my brand of cigarettes, and Wednesday I bought my last package of cigarettes. They are still unopened.
I'm pretty damn happy about that. I have never in my life gone even 12 hours without a smoke, but since Thursday, which was my late father's birthday-and a month since my mother passed away (of COPD) I have smoked exactly 2 cigarettes. Not whole ones, just a few drags first thing in the morning because that is when my craving is at it's worst. My husband wants me to vape outside the same way we always have smoked outside, but what he doesn't know won't hurt him. He does understand that it isn't smoke, it's vapor and he'll come around.
I'm thrilled that we have a decent ecigarette store in my town, so my new addiction is trying all the wonderful flavours put out. I very quickly went from my old not very good 510 batteries to a Vision Spinner kit and am over the moon. I have hope. I don't stink. Nor am I eating junk food because the yummy flavours I'm vaping cut the urge for sweets down to almost nothing, so I don't plan to gain any weight. My plan- is to be able to sing again- 38 years have left me an alto not a high soprano, and I hope that time will allow me to at least sing along with my favorite music again in the same key!
I'll have lots of questions, but for now I just want to say hi- and if I can do it- so can anyone else.

Wow, 16.70 a pack is crazy.

Ive been strictly vaping and smoke free now for 2 months and to be honest, I can't even imagine having a cigarette at this point. My wife is a serious anti-smoker so I know what you mean about going outside to smoke but the e-cig doesn't bother her in the slightest. At first she was weary of me doing it inside the house, but after a couple of days when she still couldn't smell anything she was cool with it and hasn't said a word about it since. Shes just happy Im not smoking. Keep it up, I feel great, I didn't even know how crappy smoking made me feel until I stopped.

Good luck with the hubbie.

Another singer!

As a long-time Barbershop quartet / chorus singer (lead, aka 2nd tenor), and 43 year smoker, I can predict with great confidence, you will claim the honour of being a soprano once again!!

My experience is that the transition across the 'break' in/out of my higher end is so much easier. I used to dread crossing the "E" border, and would really not feel comfortable without extensive warmup.

Give me a quick couple of songs to loosen up with, and I'll happily head to high F and G's!

I also find your observations about sweets very interesting ;))

And one last thing, as the dad of 3 alto's, that can't have been too bad of purgatory for you to have spent time 'down-there'

Welcome to the wondrous world of vaping!

I'm not totally smoke free-yet. But down to one a day. First thing in the morning I smoke part of a cigarette, then last thing at night. I just can't make myself not go out for that ritual of freezing, while smoking on the doorstep. I honestly DREAM about smoking cigarettes, that's how deep the addiction is.
Someone wrote something very profound here somewhere, and I'll repeat it because it's so simple but perfect. "It's not about the ones you have smoked- it's about the ones you haven't."
This week I have soon stronger juice coming, and hopefully that will fix the first thing in morning, last thing in evening craving. Hopefully.
Thanks all for your help and for being such founts of knowledge!

Hi amoca and welcome to the wonderful world of vaping and to ECF. Thanks for sharing your story. Glad you found us and also glad you found some gear and juice that works for you. I've been vaping for 5 months and still like my Vision Spinners, so they should work well for you.

As far as what your singing voice will be like, I can report that I added at least 3 notes on the high side and a couple on the low side, so more than half an octave gained. Also gained some volume and have to back off he mic more than in the past. My musical partners have noticed and they are thrilled, for my voice and even more for my health. And I don't run out of breath as much while singing, though I am still out of shape. I am feeling good enough after 5 months that I may start working out again.

I hope you find this community to be friendly, welcoming, supportive and knowledgeable. I've found the folks here to be great and I credit this forum and the people here for a large part of my being 5 months analog free.

Keep the vape and namaste.

You will get there m'lady!

That should do it. Most people don't understand that the nicotine absorption rate when vaping is a lot less compared to smoking. Up those nic levels and give yourself what you need. You can lower that anytime AFTER you've made the transition and at your own pace. Or not. :)
