3d cross eyed stereogram pictures

So I've been fooling around with the 3d effect, using just my digital camera, I don't have a two camera setup. I've made a few 3d images just testing and fooling around with it and I think they came out pretty good.

This does not need a special pair of glasses to view, just cross your eyes.

Cross your eyes until you see a 3rd picture in the middle
Once you have the two pictures overlapping to make the 3rd practice on focusing on that middle picture
It takes some practice if you can't get it at first try moving further or closer to make it easier to focus on that middle picture

After about a week of looking at these pictures and looking up how to do them I can view them on command without even thinking about it. Youtube has videos on it, and if you type 3d cross eye in google you can come across hundreds of pictures. Doing it this way actually bothers my eyes a lot less than the red and blue glasses.

Here's some of the pictures I have done lastnight and today so far. Will be working on more and I will post more as I get them. Hope you can see these properly, enjoy!

That's what I've got, will try to do some outdoors ones of trees and cars and so on soon enough. With one camera objects need to be very still so I can get them. It's not easy, but I'm working on some kind of rig so I can do video in 3d with the same effect.

Anyone else ever experiment with this effect? I know they make lenses for cameras (3d lens in a cap for about $150) but I don't want to have to spend that kind of money. Plus they don't make them for the cameras I have.

EDIT: I should let you know how I did this incase you want to try for yourself. Hold the camera steady, put all your weight on your right foot center the object take a picture. Put all your weight on your left foot, center the object take a picture. The difference between the pictures is not overwhelming but you will see a difference. It's about a 2.5-3 inch movement (about the distance of eyes from each other) which allows for the 3d effect to happen. Download a program called stereophoto maker (free program): http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/stphmkr/ import the two pictures. I use the auto crop which fixes some of the imperfections. You can set it up to do side by side or the glasses however you want. You can save out the image. The guitar picture I did was edited in photoshop before I found this free program.

Have fun and enjoy.

That's awesome man! I had no trouble focusing in 3d immediately. The Christmas scene one is by far the most impressive. Good Job!!!
I wish I could see them full size though. They are so huge I have to look at them in reduced size mode.

If you can't see it in full size step back from the screen, I can see them from the other side of the room full size. If they're too big for your monitor, save it and open it in windows picture fax viewer (assuming you're using windows), it will make it as large as it can for your monitor.
I really like the christmas one to, one of my favorites. If you view it bigger you can really see the depth in the shelf behind the table to. I have one of a mess of dirty plates and empty granola boxes and some cleaning sprays all on a table but I decided not to post it because it's such a mess and my girlfriend would kill me if I showed off our mess like that, lol.
Glad you were able to view them easily. I know some people that just can't do it at all.

Great work! So simple, yet so effective!

Thank you, glad you like them.

Like I said I'll be working on making more of these soon. I love this effect, might want to just call me OBSESSED with it. hahah

I'm using a 14" laptop right now that's why I can't see them full size. I'll look at them later in my offer. I have a 24" monitor in there.
What's cool is once I lock on to the center 3d image it just stays right there. I don't even have to cross my eyes anymore. I scrolled through all of them without loosing the 3d affect. Really cool!

Yeah I'm working on 2 24" monitors so I have plenty of room. Once you have it and all the images are the same size it's easy to just scroll through them all.

Here's another I just did

I couldn't focus on the 3D pictures but then I can't judge distance as well as guys with normal eyesight. My eyes aren't perfectly lined up, basically I have the eyes of an albino whilst I am not an albino if that makes sense! My eyes move from side to side involuntarily I wonder if I will be able to see tjhe effect and enjoy 3D TV!!

tribalmasters, sorry you can't see them, it's pretty cool. I don't know how that will work with the tvs since they use shutter glasses for that.

bangers, yeah it is known to cause slight pain but it's nothing permanent.

MYTH: If you cross your eyes on purpose, they can get stuck there.

TRUTH: There is no way that you can make your eyes cross permanently. (So leave your kids alone when they do it to aggravate you.)

Lol thanks for all of the information on eye myths. That last set is awesome and it's already become very easy for me and the pain is gone... could be the Super Bowl Sunday beers helping though.

haha I didn't even think of drinking before looking at these, I'm sure the drunken natural eye crossing would be a lot easier than forcing it to happen haha.

I would love to do videos, unfortunately without a certain lens or a special camera it's impossible. But pictures are easy as long as the subject is still. I have one camera taking two separate pictures. I'd need 2 cameras recording at the same time at certain distances. Unfortunately I don't have the money for all that, so pictures is all I can do for now. I'm trying to come up with ideas for DIY attachment for video, but I'm still just trying to figure out how the lens works so I can make my own.
