The house just hasn't felt right since my 4-legged boy, Dargo, died on 4/19/14. It's like the house isn't balanced. So, for the past week and a half, we've been looking at rescue websites, and we found one 5 year old Maltese and we sent an email, but he had found a home 2 days prior. We'd had prayed before making the call and asked the Lord if it isn't meant to be to let us know. Then we made the phone call. My husband has been looking still. Last night, he found one or two. We prayed about that as well. When I'd been looking, all I found was puppies ranging from $800-$1950. Well, this a.m., he found a 1 year old Maltese/Yorkie mix (Maltese part is 75%), for.......now grab your heart........$50.00! This was after I gave it all to the Lord to work out. We both felt that it was a mistake, and just knew that the baby was already sold. He wasn't. He's completely white, so has no Yorkie markings, and it gets better............the guy lives about 80 miles from here and the guy delivers as long as we pay for his gas. Couldn't believe it! God found our 3rd pup and held him for us until we saw the ad online. It was the same with my Maltese, and my husband's Maltese as well. We are so excited, but want to see a picture of him first, per the guy's insistence. So, should have that later. I will keep you guys up-to-date, as things keep changing so quicking! Triple Cool! :w00t:

My husband and I had trouble sleeping last night because we wanted to go and get our boy. It'll be Wednesday before the man or we can travel. Still no picture. He's getting groomed today first. We couldn't have children, so our 4 legged children are extremely important to us.

Finding a name we both like has been exhausting. So far, the list is: Rango, Winchester, Wiley, Magnum, Mongo and another I can't remember. I liked Dirty Harry. That one got axed by husband. We like 2nd Amendment NRA names and movies. He axed Biblical names and I axed 3 Stooges names. We looked up names on the internet and nothing stuck out to us.

Told husband after Dargo died that I didn't feel as safe as when Dargo was alive. He was a great watchdog. That's when he started searching, and I knew nothing about it, at first. Then I started searching and all I found was EXPENSIVE puppies, like I posted. We don't want a little puppy. He would be too rambuncious for our other 2, since mine is 12 years old and his is 8 years old.

Patience is not my long suit or can't you tell........

Cuz, I told husband what you said about the name Wiley and he agrees with you! I think we're going to have a, well Maltese have hair, a Wiley running around. It's not a bad name. I just loved the name Dargo so much. That name came from a sci-fi show called Farscape. Dargo was a big mighty warrior on the show.

Now Dargo would go under the couch and hide when new people would come inside, and he would freak if it was a guy wearing a baseball cap. Dargo loved the women, though. He was a flirt. What a great little guy and he is greatly missed. He will be waiting for us on the Rainbow Bridge.

We finally heard from the guy last night and he said one of his babies had babies and kicked one of the babies out. He said he would be up all ngiht as he feels this one has a chance. He's feeding this sweet little one with a dropper. I love a guy who loves animals and not afraid to show it. They stand 10 feet tall to me. He said it would be tonight before he can get us a picture, but it doesn't make one difference or not. The Lord picked this one for us as well as our other two. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.....

Got a kick in the teeth this morning. For the last week, my Maltese has been limping. I figured it was a sprain, and we restricted her activity. It's no better. So, called vet this a.m. and had appointment at 10:15. She has degenerative arthritis in both hip joints. Her spine is fine, but no wonder the precious 8 lb baby hasn't been herself. For now, she's on Rimadyl twice a day, but they can add tramadol if necessary. He wants to give this a week to see how she is doing. She is almost 12 years old, but small breeds can live through the latter teens. She is such a beautiful little thing and it breaks my heart. Angel, my husband's Maltese is overweight and she is being put on a diet today. (Weight can be a factor, but Sharlamane isn't overweight.) She'd eat half the house if we'd let her. Same breed, totally different personalities. Sharlamane is a dainty eater and such a little lady. She had to also get her rabies shot this morning on top of 2 x-rays, which she wasn't happy about.

She is so devoted to me and I just couldn't watch her limp another day, especially after what happened to Dargo, and how quickly he spiraled. I saw a mini-dachsund this morning at the vet and it broke my heart. He looked like he could have been Dargo's brother. I am sad and somewhat upset, but I have found aids online to help an arthritic pet. So, that's a plus!

Talked to guy about our new baby and hopefully will have him by end of week. He and Angel can play while Sharlamane watches. Angel has tried to play with Sharlamane, but she can't do it for very long. So she'll have a play buddy. :)

Finally got pictures of Wiley. I just don't like that name, but my husband does and I can bend. Poor little creature must have had bad mats, since he was outside, because he is cut really close! The guy was supposed to come to town today. My husband talked to him this morning. Haven't heard a word. I'm a bit upset, but God's timing is always perfect. As I've already mentioned, patience is not one of my strong suits.

Husband had to go to ER last night, again, and they released him. I wonder if this doctor got his MD from a Cracker Jax box. I'm going to take him to see his regular doctor tomorrow morning. There's nothing like spending the night in the ER. We were there for 5 hours. Got to sleep at 5:30. His regular doctor will have a cow when he finds out how husband was treated. I've delivered puppies and kittens, but never a cow!

Wiley is home!!!!!!!!!!! I highly suspect this guy to be running a puppy mill. I have never seen an animal in such a condition as poor Wiley. (Still don't like the name.) The guy pulled him out of the transport cage by the neck skin. That was #1. #2 was the dirtiness of poor Wiley and the smell. He was supposed to have had a bath, but you couldn't tell it by me. We brought him inside and he got a bath before we would let him out in the house with our other two. He is quite skinny, and no people skills. He was scared to death of us. I was expecting that, but he almost acts like he was abused. He had dried blood on his back where they were trying to shave off the mats and got too close. He is still very leery of us. Have been trying to give him some space, as he tries to hide behind everything. The girls aren't really happy about him being here, but they will get used to him. He is going to be a beautiful guy. House training him might prove to be a challenge, but he should get the idea eventually. He was an outside guy and he doesn't know any better. He needs to be neutered and will do that as soon as finances ease up a bit. He and I are bonding. Since husband has been sick, he just wasn't up to holding him to calm him down. Went to vet and got flea pills for all of them plus some pain meds for Sharlamane. She's not doing well, but her appetite is good and attitude is fiesty. It's been just one of those weeks out of the pits of hell. By the Grace of God, I'm still standing! Praise the Lord! :)

Wiley is making slow progress. I have found wound scabs all over him...one about 2 inches long and it's from clipping him. I'd like to get my hands around this man's............well, the Lord will take care of him. Potty training him is a hit and a miss. It's mostly missing. He does trust me more than at first. He had 2 successes today. That's better than yesterday.

Galatians 6:7 KJV

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

I believe this strongly. I get upset when children and animals are abused. They can't defend themselves.

Sharlamane got rechecked today. It's not good, but it's not awful. Since it's both hips and knees, surgery might work and might not. So she is going to have to live with it, but on medication. I hate that for her, but for now, she hobbles on medication.:(

Awwwwwwwwww Cuz...... I hope things get better for Wiley.... my heart is breaking over the abuse this little Guy apparently endured before he got to his 'forever' home with you and the Hubs........... I'll be praying for all of you. I just got back home to Florida and I'm kinda exhausted.... caught my Stepfather's Viral Bronchitis with Laryngitis to boot so needless to say I'm feeling just lovely......

So very sorry you are sick, Cuz!!! Doesn't it always work that way? Take good care of yourself....plenty of liquids, Mucinex, gargle with salt water, make some chicken soup, the Jewish penicillan, and rest!

As for Wiley, he got a clean bill of health from the vet, but he seems to have a higher temp than normal. I hope I don't have to take him back to the vet. I feel like we've lived there the past couple of weeks. YOU BET YOUR BIPPY that Wiley has a forever home. I fell in love with him when he was filthy and scuzzy. He is such a snuggle bunny. It would break my heart if something was really wrong with him. We bonded so quickly.....not husband and him, but him and me. He is a wonderful little guy and the girls .... well, they'll get over it.

Well, husband found Wiley another home. He was coming along so well, but very predatory about food and he was leery about him with our other two. It's no different than when Dargo was alive, except Dargo was more sneaky about it. I was in the back with Sharlamane and Wiley and she declares her power to protect her momma. She was growling at him and he was showing teeth back at her. I lightly popped him on the side of his mouth and did the same with Sharlamane. That took care of that. To make a long story shorter, husband found Wiley a great home with other dogs and 40 acres to run. It broke my heart. I got so upset and we got into an argument, which we don't do anymore. Since Wiley was so attached to me, husband couldn't get him to mind outside. He wanted to get back inside to me. It had only been 2 WEEKS! I was out in the yard walking around, which I wouldn't normally do and was getting good exercise. I told him the only way I would give him up was if we got a puppy. It all worked out, I suppose, but Wiley trusted me. On a brighter note, at least I got him away from his previous owner, got him healthy and some weight on him. He was bones. He was such a great little guy, and as stated, it broke my heart.

Under puppyfinder.com, I sent some emails about puppies. I sent out 5, I think. We got a call back about a male puppy, 9 weeks old. This litter had 5 males and 1 female. Now Maltese pups are VERY expensive, but this little guy was only $300.00. Sharlamane was $340.00 12 years ago, and our other one was $500.00. So we went to Thomasville, AL on Sunday....round trip 180 miles. But at least the lady got her son and daughter in law to meet us at almost halfway there in the Walmart shopping center. OH MY GOODNESS! This little baby took to us immediately! You could tell that he had had alot of 'face time,' meaning loving on them, kissing their little faces. In other words, spoiled rotten! The lady gave us some puppy food, a stuffed teddy bear, all kinds of instructions, he's micro-chipped, and CKC. We though about maybe using him for stud, too. His mom is 8 lbs. and his daddy is 5 lbs. So, he's not going to be very big at all, which is what most people are looking for. I told husband that I was going to name this one....period!

Names................ARGH! Since we recently watched a 2hr. special on Johnny Carson, I decided to name him J. Carson and our last name. A puppy is usually VERY entertaining. So we call him Carson. I also had a few other names, but he didn't react to them. He reacted to Carson. He's supposed to be paper trained.......uh, nope. We'll get there......eventually! So, that's what has been going on here and why I haven't been on the board in the past few days. Just wanted you guys to know. I'm still upset about Wiley, but I have to forgive husband. I'm not quite there, but God is helping me. :(

I just read through this thread and I feel I was meant to find this thread and you Saintscruiser (would love to know your actual name, lol). My husband and I also could not have children and consider our furbabies our children. We bred and showed purebred Bengal Cats for 5 years. We loved it. I loved it when one of our Mamas would have her babies. It amazed me that something that was so easy for my cats, is impossible for me. When I health crisis hit we rehomed most of the cats. We kept our original two Bengal boy pets who are now 9. Their names are Khole and Blizzard.

KholeandBlizzard.jpg

Khole is MINE! (the dark one) After being at my parents' house for so long my husband said he was losing his hair and not eating from missing me. My parents said he could come live here with me and the reunion was joyous. All his hair came back and he is once again my best friend and constant companion. He comes when he is called, gives kisses, and sleeps either on top of me or snuggled beside me. Bengal cats act more like dogs really than cats. He is my fur-son and the light of my life (well one of them, lol)

We kept a couple other special Bengals that we had used in our breeding program that are at our house with my husband. We also have two dogs. We are both dog and cat people and our dogs are just as special. My dog is a white schnauzer named Harley. He is 7 and also so completely devoted to me. He had to come to my parents' house when I was in the hospital because he stopped eating a couple weeks after me being gone. He sleeps on my bed and even gets along with Khole. My parents have two yorkies and a Siberian cat so right now we have an animal family of 5 at my parents' house.

Saintscruiser since you only live in Mississippi maybe our paths will cross "in real life" one day. I truly feel the Lord led me to this forum to make these friends and especially I feel you and I have so much in common, the Lord knew I needed someone in my life that really understand what I am going through.

Missy, I did notice where you are from and I was born in Birmingham! The world is getting smaller, don't you think? My sister and I were both born at University Hospital. We lived there until I was 8 and then moved to Meridian, MS. Until I moved back permanetly to Meridian in 1985, I've lived in many places, including Alaska and Germany. I am happy to be a Mississippian, as MS is the best kept secret. Most people think that Mississippians are ignorant and that MS is living in the dark ages. HA! We have everyone fooled and I'm not telling!;)

My name is Linda, and our babies have hair, not fur. They have to get clipped every 4-6 weeks. Carson is too young to get clipped. Here are some pictures of him.

He is just the cutest little guy, and my sister is a cat person (has 6 cats) and I thought she was going to steal him! She is called the 'crazy cat lady' and I thought she was going to keep him! I was a cat person only (I've always loved animals) for a little over 29 years, but when I got my first Maltese, I jumped the fence and became a dog person. Bengal cats, however, are GORGEOUS babies! I've always thought they are regal. They can get rather large, too! I've always loved the bengal tigers as they command respect! The markings are awesome! And, Harley is beautiful....! mean handsome. You have a wonderful 4-legged family! Nothing is wrong with having many babies, as long as you can afford them. Three is our limit! Vet bills are outrageous these days. It's almost as much, if not more, to go to a regular doctor. The pet industry makes a mint!

I'm going to send you a pm for further discussion, if you don't mind! :)

I don't mind at all! I love Maltese and the dogs (my Schnauzer, and my parents' two yorkies Duke and Jake) have hair too, no shedding! We have a wonderful groomer that also boards them when we need and we keep puppy cuts on the yorkies. Bengal cats are wonderful, they do not shed much and many people with cat allergies are not bothered by them, including me.

I have actually been to Meridian several times for cat shows! The Mississippi Cat Fanciers cat club have their annual show in Meridian. The show hotel is the LaQuinta right off I-20 that has a Dunkin Donuts in the parking lot I think. It has been awhile since I have been to the show there. We loved going to that show because Meridian is just a little over a couple hours drive. The world definitely is getting smaller!

So nice to know your "real" name Linda. I am so blessed to find this group!

PS: Carson is absolutely adorable! Something about white dogs and those black noses! It is what really drew me to Harley when he was a puppy!

The 4-legged baby got me up WAY too early this morning! His paper training is getting better and this morning, he went to his papers to TT by himself! Now that is a break through! Now if he will be just as good getting a bath today. We haven't bathed him yet and I don't think he's going to like it very much. He needs a trimming in the back and he doesn't like scissors either. Should prove to be interesting! It's a good thing that my husband will help me out. I'm a proud Mama, or can you tell! Found out that Wiley loves his new home and enjoys being outdoors, playing and romping. I am so very glad. There is no denying that I bonded with him quickly. It broke my heart to give him up, but I do have to admit that Carson fits into the family a bit better. Sharlamane still isn't happy with him, but Angel seems to have more patience with him....even playing some together. Carson is an Equal Opportunity Love Bug, meaning he loves everyone, which is the way Sharlamane was when she was younger. I would take her to the nursing home my daddy was in and of course everyone wanted to pet and love on her. She would put such smiles on the patient's faces. I would put her on Daddy's lap when I'd roll him down the hall to supper. I think Carson will be the same way with people.

You know, I realize that I have my own thread on whats going on with my life and household, and if everyone wishes, I wouldn't mind if each of you want your own thread.....not talking about vaping hardware, but what is going on in your life. We tried a chat thread, but that fizzled out. So if you want to talk about your 4-legged children, etc., special testimonies, or what have you, we can learn more about each other. Just a thought.:)

Took little boy to the vet for his 12 wk. booster. My vet found a slight heart murmur. I almost fell out! So, after the panic passed, my husband and I have put the murmur at the foot of the Cross. :closedeyes:Our vet said that he might outgrow it, but whatever comes, we're with him 150%. He got his rabies shot, a booster, and a worming. He screamed like a girl! His weight is a little over 3 lbs. He snuggled with me all the way home, which isn't far. What a honey he is.:)

Thank you all for being so sweet and encouraging about my baby Carson. He has grown so much in 4 weeks! He doesn't like being trimmed, nails clipped, a bath, but we're doing it a little at a time. A Maltese has to have those things done since they have hair, not fur. Also, the hair in the ears have to be plucked, but none of ours will allow us to do that.

Carson is now 13 weeks, and when he does a #1, he has started lifting his back right leg......just a little bit. It's hilarious! He is like a bullet when he runs around the house. He is quite entertaining and all puppy!

Update on Carson. He is going potty outside, if you're willing to take him out 10 times a day. The number of 'doodles' is growing less and less in the house. So instead of 3 times a day, he's only going once in the house. We want ALL doodles outside. He is very smart to be almost 16 weeks old......and growing......sigh......why can't they stay small. I told my husband we need to get a puppy every year. You can only imagine what he said to that.

We use dry food as treats around here, among other things. But Carson won't eat dry food in his dish, but if you put it on the floor, he'll eat it. Who is training whom? We are standing firm on 'no people food.' So far so good. :)
