I bought my first ecig 4 maybe even 5 years ago, thinking it would be the easiest switch from smoking to practically quitting.

But as soon as they were delivered and I tried it out, I threw them in a box in the closet very unsatisfied.

About a year later I see the next big thing come out, the eGo, so I order one, try it out, make a mess with the liquids and such, and again, I threw it in the closet after one day.

Then about a year ago I do a little more reasearch and buy an ego c-twist with a tank and wick. And once again , I threw it in storage after day one.

And here I am now, after about $600 wasted , I'm digging it out and charging it up, refilling the tank and trying to get into it, but I just cant. Almost every hit burns my throat, the liquid sometimes leaks into my mouth making me gag and spit, and its a pain to refill the tanks. It really doesn't do it for me like analogs. I really don't know how people can go from a pack a day to ecigs just like that.

I did in October 2010 and never looked back. I smoked for 35 years and switched just like that.

I guess the main reason I was able to is because there was not any posts like this one for me to see.

Every single one I read told me about person after person that was able to switch without problems.

I told myself, if they can do it, I can do it!

and I did

First, you have to WANT to go from cigs to vaping and then you need to find what works for you, which can be a hunt and peck kind of thing. If your juice is burning your throat, it may be that your battery is set too hot (is it voltage variable?). Also, I have notice that when the nicotine level is too high for me it can feel like it burns my throat. I started with Green Smoke and they were not the greatest thing on earth, but I wanted to quit smoking, so I used them while I researched here to find what would work for me. I have an itaste vv3 and a Provari and use both and love both. I have tried a bunch of juice flavors and had hits and misses. But in the end, what I wanted was to stop smoking and that is what I have done. You can do it, too. Gather info here and try some things until you find what keeps you off the cigs.

I think that you do have to be motivated to quit. No PV or tank, carto, etc is going to work if you are not motivated or ready to give up the cigs.

I did not quit as soon as I got my first set up. It took about 2 weeks. I did quit using a V4L battery and prefilled cartos but, I think that if I had not been very motivated, I could have easily given up. JMHO

ETA- You may want to try a juice higher in VG than PG for a smoother vape.

I also quit immediately. I stopped in the vape shop and never finished the pack of smokes I had opened earlier that day. I smoked for about 13 years. Vaping gave me everything I liked about smoking, plus it appealed to the geek in me with all the tinkering. That was about 5 months ago. Now I have several different setups and just started rebuilding.

You have to make the choice and just do it. If throwing them in the closet is an option, you'll end up doing that. Make that not an option. Tell yourself if you want nic, this is the only way. Don't give yourself that easy out, by boxing it up and putting it aside. After a while grabbing your PV will be second nature.

The thing you have to understand about e-cigs that's VERY different from analogs is this: There is much to learn if you want a great vaping experience.

For example: With analogs I can go to the nearest gas station, ask for a pack and a lighter, light it up and start breathing through it. Easy and simple.

But with PVs, it's a different story. Consider PVs the hand-rolled analogs of analogs, or even more like a Hookah (hope this doesn't offend anybody). Everybody has a preference, everybody has to learn how to tinker with their device for their preference of how it operates, and there are a lot more options to choose from. Until you find what your preference is, it just isn't going to do it for you.

I actually started with Blu eCigs back in the day - and they were alright. I loved the convenience of being able to buy them at a gas station like analogs; but admittedly, the vape just didn't do it for me. So I went back to analogs. Now almost 3-4 years later, I've purchased 4-5 different batteries and toppers until I found something that I like. Let me tell you, I had no problem quitting analogs.

Another piece of advice: Like everybody is saying, you have to want it. That whole "making me cough and gag" thing - well, that just tells us that you're new to vaping. I've introduced now about 8 of my smoker friends to vaping. They all react the same way the first time they try it - they hack up a lung, their face turns red, and although it tasted good, they kinda don't want to try it again. Heck, I did the same! But after about 1-2 weeks of only vaping, that feeling was gone for good. I can now vape 100%PG @ 18mg (admittingly harsh and not my preference) without too much of a problem. In fact, I've gotten about 7 of those 8 friends to switch to vaping!

Bottom line is this: In my opinion, vaping may not be for everybody. But if you want it, tough it out for a week or two with a good battery and topper - you'll grow to like it. If you're experiencing problems; well, you already belong to the biggest and best community around to ask for help and seek out more information. The more informed you are, the more bang for your buck you'll get!

Really sorry to hear it has been a nonstarter for you, that's terrible. I know I was lucky in that I just walked into a B&M store that set me up with what may be the best starter kit available (Kanger Evod) and some really top notch ejuice (Alien Visions Boba's Bounty and Havana Gold).

I vaped and smoked for a few weeks but noticed that my smoking was cut in half without even thinking about it the first week, the next week I was down to less than half a pack a day. Finally I decided to push myself just a little and see how it felt, haven't had a cig since and I was a two pack a day smoker that started 30 years ago.

I don't think you have to desperately want to quit, you don't even have to mostly want to, but I think you have to at least be open to the idea of change. I've been trying to talk about vaping with sister and she won't even discuss it so I know for a fact that it wouldn't work for her no matter how good the gear or the juice.

I don't think you did anything wrong at all, maybe just try adding vaping to your smoking and don't even think about trying to quit the cigs. See what happens from there, I bet you notice you smoke way fewer cigs at least. Worth a shot.

Wanting to quit definitely helps. But what helps even more is finding the right setup for you!

No device is going to be 100% perfect, and understanding that is part of the battle, especially at first. It sounds like you've not experienced how good vaping can actually be. To have that full, flavorful hit that is ever more satisfying than a cigarette!...it's out there! Many of us have stuck to the battle and know exactly what's wrong when our gear isn't up to snuff!

It's a combination of battery power, good juice, and a good delivery system. My guess is your tank is the issue. It's probably cheap/outdated/corroded with gunk....as you say you chucked it in a closet for a year!

Spend $20 on a Protank, learn how to rebuild the coils with kanthal and cotton (very easy!), and so long as you have a juice flavor with the right mg of nic for you...I PROMISE you will see the light! :vapor:

It took me about 3-4 weeks before I felt I was ready to give up the analogs. I'm only at 7 days right now since last one. At first I was still smoking almost as much as before (2-3 PPD) I started vaping. Started with the cheap disposal unit first. That only took me a few days to realised I needed something else. Got the Ego-C with a mini Pro tank. Liked it a lot better. A Couple weeks on that and then I got a Emode and Areo Tank. At about that time I was down to only three analogs a day, so I decided it was time to just quit. 5 days into quitting, I decided to try an analog just to see if I really wanted it as bad as my mind kept telling me. Lite it up and after two drags, it tasted so bad I put it out and have not tried another yet. My mind still goes to the analogs quite often but I pick up the E-Cig instead and it's still working. Good luck and keep trying, I know I plan to. I just can't wait till I feel I can honestly say I'M A NON-Smoker!! One Day!

Well, for one thing you have to shift your expectations. Vaping 101: vaping isn't smoking. It is technology, and if you have zero patience to even try figuring it out then it will never work for you. No, it isn't as easy as smoking but most problems can be fixed if you ask for help instead of throwing it in a drawer.

How did you manage to spend $600.00 on three attempts involving a cigalike, an eGo and an eGo C Twist?

If you want help we can help. If you want to complain you can do that anywhere.

You don't necessarily literally have to want to quit smoking IMHO. I loved smoking but...it kept nagging at me that it was bad for my health. It took me quite a bit of time and effort and quite a bit of money to finally find a set up I loved. Not as much money as smoking but quite a bit of money.

My set up is a Provari with carto/tanks with DIY 555 [or a few others]. I smoked half as much when using a cig-a-like...a quarter as much using an ego style and really cut back on the Provari. I finally quit after a couple of months of 1 or 2 cigs a day. The whole process took me nine months. I did not stress over it. I just kept telling myself how great it was that I was smoking less.

Hope that helps you feel a little better.

probelm I see is you have to stop thinking its going to be like analogs from the get go, it aint. I tryed cold turkey and that was too hard, this is what I compared them too. you NEED TO WANT TO QUIT, I found useing and getting used to ecig hard at the start but I found myself after a few weeks enjoying more then I ever did analogs and would never go back.

I started with a standard twin ego pack and a bottle of juice thinking that was me sorted and like you kept giveing up and never going the whole way. I finally decided after about a year to retry but just to cut down even but as I said, few weeks in I was fixed. now I have a vv v3, mvp, lots of clearos and getting my first RTA soon to rebuild.

I just cleaned out the tank and changed the wick this morning.

Took a couple of hits (normal cigarette type drags) and it feels like I'm inhaling a ball of fire, right in my chest and lungs, not my throat.

I'm using 18mg/nic juices , I have 6 or 7 bottles of varying ones, they're 1 to 4 years old. I think they're PG ? Not sure really what that is.

The only reason I'm posting is because once every year or so I get fed up with smoking. I do LOVE to smoke (in the moment), but HATE the after-effects, (clothes smell, yellowing of walls , easily winded just walking up stairs) I'm only 27 and feel like I have the lungs of a 70 year old. So I look for an alternative.

Plus I want to be able to vape in the car , or movie theater or hotel room, without having huge withdrawls of wanting a cigarette. Which usually ruins whatever expierience Im trying to have.

And yes I did spend around 600 on this stuff, starter kits of 100$+ each, juices and extra batteries. I probably got ripped off for all I know, but everything I got was shipped to me, so it added up quick. That's why I'm wary to try again and spend more money on stuff that I won't like.

You don't have to proper motivation to make vaping work for you. It's really that simple.

Yes, It's easier to carry a pack of analogs around. No battery management. No refilling of juice. AND analogs give a faster nicotine rush and a lot more of it. You need to find a reason to overcome these things. Once that happens, the gear "management" and tolerances will come. Soon you'll incorporate that gear and the things necessary to maintain it into your daily routine - just like you did with cigarettes.

Well, for one things you have to shift your expectations. Vaping 101: vaping isn't smoking
There's a transition to be made. When I started, I was dragging like I would with a cigarette. Smoking conditioned me to take a quick, hard hit directly into the lungs. I tried that with my PV, and it didn't work well. My jaw ached, and I was squandering a lot of the nicotine.

The trick for me is to take a long, sedate drag like I would with a cigar. I hold the vapor in my mouth and take a slight inhale through the nostrils, which gives me the tickle in the throat. Then I exhale. Once that clicked for me, I was getting what I needed.

(Actually, no. Once I got it, I vaped constantly and hard for about four hours, and I got a buzz and a headache, but you get the point.)

I had alot of the problems you mention in your OP at first too. Once i found the Aspire BDC it fixed most of the issues - and it's cheap (like $12 cheap )and will fit your ego battery. If things start tasting bad or harsh i just swap the coil for $2. I'm learning that i prefer the 50/50 PGVG as others have recommended. Needed 18 or 24mg to quit for me - i personally didn't find more nicotine to mean more harsh. I'm a bit of a newb too so just relaying my experience here. been at this for about 6 months - i didn't seek out all the info at first, just used what I was recommended at the store, just now getting more into the options. I still have a regular cig maybe once a week now - it just reminds me i much prefer the ecig.

You can do it and it's WELL worth it. health, satisfaction, taste, $$$, lack of stench...benefits are many.
