After more testing this mod is not working to my satisfaction. Draw is to hard or it leaks like a sieve. What I did was drilled the end out of a 401 cart and inserted it into a 4081 cart. I used an U40 insulin syringe cut to size and tapered down at one end so I could stuff it into a standard 401 inner cart. This was used as the new inner cart. For fill I used blue foam. First I tried a very thin piece as long as the the new inner cart. Very hard draw with a little leak. I then tried a coffee stirrer along side the foam. Easier draw but more leakage. Last thing I tried was 2 springs and a blue foam plug. What a mess! It would be great if I could increase the capacity of the 401 cart without increasing the draw/leak. Brought some other things to try home with me yesterday. If I find something that works good I will update this thread. Anyone else ever tried this? If so please chime in. Anyone have any suggestions (besides go buy a diff ecig)? Would love to here them.

Telling anyone to go buy a diff ecig would be the last thing I'd do regarding a 401 since nothing beats it in taste so far, and I've tried the 510, 901, KR808 and the 801. The 801 comes the closest in taste, though it's a bit airier than the nice concentrated tasty vape from a 401.

What I've resorted to doing at home is to cut off the top of the mouthpiece to make a hollow tube. Instead of using the cartridge, I've formed an upside down "V" out of fluval and placed it over the atomizer bridge and cover it like a tent. Then I drip through the hollow mouthpiece directly on the "tent" and have experieced no burning and if anything an increase in taste.

I was surprised that having fluval covering the bridge might interfere with air movement (inhalation of vapor) but I guess making the the upside down "V" being of the same width of the bridge means air passage isn't blocked off.

When I lay down the nicostick with the 401 on the nightstand, I find the fluval has retained the liquid and I don't have a mess on the nightstand in the morning. The liquids I use don't tend to be Johnson creek thin however.

If you come up with a modded cartridge that holds more than the original 401 cart or the XL (by about .1ml if that?) cartridge, I know lots of 401 lovers would be very interested.

You have to find a hollow tube that the 401 battery/atty will fit into snuggly. Wrap some tape around the top, narrower part of the atty to make it larger in diameter to get a tighter seal if necessary. The inner cart I used is a saftey cap off a 22 gauge syringe. This had to be grinded a bit down to fit inside. What ever you use must fit snug but still allow air flow to the atty.
I used 1.5 springs from a pen (one whole spring is not long enough). Place the springs inside of the inner cart Should be cut to be about 3/16" below top of cart. I then cut the smallest in diameter stirrer I could find at an angle on one end and about 1/8" shorter than the springs. Place the straw inside the springs. Fill with juice about 3/4 full (0.8ml for my cart). Use enough blue foam to poke into spring down to the straw and to fill the remaining 3/16" of the cart with the foam (all with one piece of foam). Top off if needed. I have vaped this set up for about 2 hours straight without having to refill and with no leaking! The attached picture shows the two I have made and the new inner cart compared to a standard 401 and inner cart.

I have tried almost every mod for my 401 and nothing seems to work for long. Every mod I try is great at first, but then I find problems. I actually managed to make a silicon rubber plug like the ZFM by scotty, and it worked great, except it was a #$%%^ to refill, but then my atty started to smell like burning rubber...so I cleaned it and then it died! blue foam is excellent at first but then I notice a wierd taste and blue stuff stuck to my atty...maybe I got the wrong foam? Does anyone use a blue foam plug on the 401 with success?
