That's a interesting question..I run the Atlantis 0.5 ohm coil on my IPV3 between 35-40w for great flavor.. But I also drip on my Dark Horse with a dual parallel 26g build at 0.27 ohms between 75-80w for the same great flavor, only much thicker, bigger clouds...Personally I never had a need to build above 1.0 ohm for flavor...
You didn't say if you were using a RDA or a RTA..but I would say they both can produce good flavor..depends on the devise and what you want to vape on it I guess....

I understand that one has less resistance. Yet would you get the same vape doing the .5 at around 30 watts and the 1.2 around 25 watts? I guess I really just want to know how you would choose one if you are vaping it on a VW device. Do you get better flavor out of higher ohm coils?

1: Would you get the same vape: No.

2: How would you choose one: just try one; start low and move up till you find the sweet spot; the sweet spot can change over time as the coil and wicking gets used

3: Do you get better flavour out of higher ohm coils:
If you use a higher ohm coil and you get better flavour, it might not because the coil is a higher ohm; the coil is probably also a different gauge wire.
You might also have a dual coil compared to a single coil.
The different coil will not so much have different flavour, but will have different power requirement; the higher powered coil will vape more faster.

wicking also contributes to flavour, so the cotton coil will taste different from the silica wick coil

I have and use both value coils with my Subtank Mini...to me they are very similar...I tend to use both coils at about the 50% point of their useful range, so 18.5 watts on the 1.2 and 22.5 watts on the .5 ohm...flavor and vapor seem about the same to me with both coil types, certainly not a huge difference.

I don't see where your numbers come from.

how does the 50% fit in ?
50% point of their useful range
18.5 watts on the 1.2
22.5 watts on the .5 ohm

It's all about personal taste eh? These coils make good flavour and vapor volume at the lower end of their recommended wattage, if that's what you like. I tried a couple .5 coils but for me, the 1.2 is where it's at for flavour and less heat. YMMV.

one thing is for sure, you don't even need to be going over 20w for a satisfying vape. It's not like the aspire at all. No offense meant, it's just ...different. Not saying better.

I understand your question but I'm going to take it in another direction.

The fact these new tanks are being packaged with both a +ohm and sub-coils is strictly for marketing the product to more people.

The reason the higher resistance coils (1.2 etc) are packaged in these new tank kits is because some devices are incapable of firing the subohm coil. (Example you cannot use the .5 coil on the Istick 20W. You'll get a error). In that case it no longer is a "why would I use one over the other" because your device limitation.

Put the 1.2 Ohm coil in and now you can use the Subtank/Atlantis on the 20W istick)

So if the Kanger Subtanks only came with the subohm coil it cuts out a whole market segment that would not be able to purchase the tank.

Hope that makes sense.

I would like to know more thoughts on this. I am new to this and I have a Subtank Plus V2 and I have only used the OCC .5 thus far and if I am on 13 watts (too low I guess it kind of pulses) and really anything up to 25 watts it all taste the same. May a tad more flavor at 30.

Maybe it is just my juices but I am trying uni-corn milk and it just seems weak on flavor and everyone raves about it. I have only put maybe 12-15ML through the coil/tank thus far on a KBOX.

Maybe I got that Vapor tongue thing going on but I use a tongue scraper and brush well. Even will swish with some lemon water. Maybe I am expecting things to taste like a liquid mellow Jolly Rancher and I am expecting too much.
