5 weeks vaping but getting worried - help

First of all it is 5 weeks today that I smoked my last analog cig and have not looked back nor do I intend to.

Problem 1
I loved vaping when I first started however in the past couple of weeks the taste of nicotine has become unbearably strong to the point it is masking any other flavors. I am sure this is as a result of changes in taste buds but it seems to be getting worse rather than better. It does not seem to matter what flavor - whether it be tobacco, coffee, vanilla, chocolate - I don't like fruit or menthol so couldn't say.

I am using 24 nicotine and it was fine at first but is all I can taste now?

Problem 2
I cannot seem to get clearomizers to last more than a few days before they start to taste burnt particularly with dark tobacco flavored juices - not sure if i can mention the brand so I won't - is this normal?

eGo 1.6 seems especially bad and VIVO 2.0 is better but still not great.

I have no idea what atomizers and cartomizers are lol

Thanks

I'm a fairly new vapor myself spent 35. Years on analog's so I know where your coming from, I made the switch beginning of this year and never looked back, although now, even though I still use 18mg juice and some 24mg juice I steered away from anything even remotely tobacco flavored after about the first 2 months. I found I didn't like the flavor. I realised I was addicted to nicotine, not the tobacco flavor, most people.well agree tobacco doesn't taste that great (not to offend any tobacco juice lovers) and I smoked analogs for nicotine not because of "flavor" I'm very happy now with other flavor jucies, different coffees, fruits etc which satisfies me because I still get my nicotine, maybe your getting tired of the flavor of tobacco? I can't really "taste" the nicotine so to speak.
I'd try moving on to some other flavors. But that's just me

I have had good luck with dual coil cardomizer tanks. Something like the smoketech ultimate dual coil in either the small or large sizes. I'd personally go with a nutty/+chocolate with an 18mg as they seem to translate well when transitioning from smoke to vape. Don't get discouraged, it can be fiddly, but eventually you'll find something you love! Remember it's a journey, not a destination so no matter what you can always get back on that horse.

Between changes in your body and the strength of the nic is probably where the problem lies. I did 36mg when I first started and everything felt like it burned my throat and was too harsh. I cut down to 12 slowly and now I get the full flavors and my throat has repaired itself.

Welcome!

Problem 1: Yes, the most likely culprit right now is your taste buds. I have this happening to me right now too, but I seem to be coming out of it as I can taste my juices a lot better again. It's normal and some people around here have reported it going away from as little as 2 weeks to 2, 3 months. This has to do with your buds regrowing after having poison in your mouth from cigs. Hang in there.

Problem 2: Yes, clearomizer coils will get gunky. The thicker your juice, the gunkier it will get. I wash mine out every time I change flavors or if the flavor starts changing. Pull it apart and wash it with hot water and let air dry - but DO NOT touch the wick and/or coil unless you know how to fix those!!! youtube the name of your device and you will more than likely find a video that'll show you how to clean it out or search the name here at ECF. Eventually, though they will get to the point where you can't use 'em anymore. The clearomizer I washed out all the time is still going strong 4 weeks later, the one I used for about 2 weeks and didn't clean is done.

Nicotine: This is personal preference and it's hard to call in your case since you didn't tell us how much you vape in a day and if you chain vape. Those make a huge difference in your nic intake. If you're tasting it a lot, step down to a lower milligram per volume. It could also be that since your buds are shot, you just happen to taste the nic more now. Either way, there's plenty of juice options out there to help you along until your buds re-grow.

You'd be a nut to pick up analogs after 5 weeks without smoking. Don't be a nut.

Vaping satisfies the hand to mouth thing and the nicotine intake for me. And it does so without the social stigma, odor, negative health effects, and cost (depending on how deep you want to get into it) of cigarettes.

Before picking up a cig, ask yourself,
What would a cigarette do for me that vaping doesn't? Having broken the habit of smoking, why even think about going back? Remember all those times I've told myself I wish I could quit smoking? And, now that I've quit, I'd consider going back?

It's your choice. And not a hard one. Don't be a nut.

On juice strength:
I vape 12 mg & 18 mg juice and have never found myself feeling deprived of nicotine. You might find yourself satisfied with it. Try some & see.

On equipment: I'm still using the equipment I started with 7 months ago - a pair of eGo Twists, Vision rebuildable clearos, a Phoenix clone for dripping (which I use more than clearos). And I'm still satisfied with it all. This may be considered a bit low end for the serious vapers on this forum but it's inexpensive and it works well.

Finally, on flavors:
As everyone knows, there is an infinite variety of flavors from a myriad of vendors. Some are good. Some quite good. Some not so much. Taste is, of course, subjective. What tickles one, another dislikes. Try some sample packs and drip it to find what you like. I haven't been at it long enough to have sampled wares of more than a few juice vendors. I read the forums for recommended juice vendors and am currently very happy with Mountain Oak Vapors and Heather's Heavenly Vapes. Delicious stuff.

What does the "nic" taste like to you OP?

Kind of a turpentine type of taste?...you know...mildly like a pine tree sap?

Different juices "gunk" stuff up faster too. However, clearos don't last forever...2 weeks isn't that uncommon with good care and clear juices. Atomizers, OTOH, last for month(s) with cleaning. 2 days for your clearos....a bit short IMO, but if it's gunked, it's gunked. Change juice.

i switched to vaping on mar3 and I am switching between to ce4's and a kanger 3. all three or still working good but the ce4's take some fiddling. the coils might need cleaning. i started at 24 mg nic too because I was A HEAVY SMOKER . But I am tasting that nic too with the 24 mg. i am switch down to 18 and it taste better. I am not having the nic fits anymore so I think I am ok to downgrade a little:glare:

Id say try 18mg and 12mg nic juice. Also maybe try other juice suppliers if by chance you were using the same one.Try boge cartos (better with a carto tank) for ease of use and good flavor and/or try a joye 510 atomizer for dripping, awesome flavor. Get standard resistence if your looking for something higher than 2ohm's, or get a low resistence atty or carto if you want something lower than 2ohm's for a harder hit.

Theres tons of things that can be used but these are easy, inexpensive, and IMO last longer.

For just one example, they have good prices: Joye 510 Atomizer And if you want a tank heres a link to match a tank to whatever carto you may try: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tanks/228295-cartomizer-tank-master-list.html

Wow thanks for all the fast replies and I will read anymore that come in - I have zero intention of smoking an analog again - I smoked them for over 30 years and am done!

I did initially look for a tobacco flavor when i first tried and actually found as many have stated that I didn't like them, I did however find one (Wyatt Earp from FS USA) that actually tasted more licorice than anything and I liked that - the licorice taste has gone now and really all I can taste is the nicotine - if you have ever had nicotine gum you will know the flavor well - a little like black pepper.

I was a pack a day smoker and have pretty much kept up the same rituals so am not a chain vaper, however due to smoking outdoors I did develop a bit of a power smoking habit - smoking the cigs very fast - one pull very quick after another and find I still do that, I don't think that translates very well to vaping, perhaps that is destroying my clearomizers?

I would certainly take recommendations for flavors - I would like to find a good strong licorice, also interested in coffee, nut, vanilla, that kind of thing - fruity or creamy didn't work for me - sweet seems good - I am in Tucson so can easily go into the FreedomSmoke USA store there - that is all I have tried thus far but wouldn't mind doing mail order if better.

Finally what is dripping? is that where you just smoke a small amount of juice at a time - does it lend itself to sampling different flavors without needing a clearo for each - if so what is a good product.

Once again - thanks - you guys rock!
