My Smoke 51 starter kit has lost one of its batteries, and some of my oft-refilled cartomizers are starting to get a bit funky.

So considering the price of a new Smoke 51 battery and some new carts, I'm ready to try a different platform.

I've narrowed it down to either the 510 or the Vapor King manual. I like the idea of a manual. I'm leaning a bit towards the VK since it comes with a USB pass-thru.

Both seem to have a loyal following.

I was initially going to get the 510, but once I started looking into the VK I decided it was a better fit. I chose it because it appears you have to spend less time refilling it.... Like you said though, both have a pretty dedicated following.

I get my VK this week hopefully. Steve at vapor4life.com is amazing. I got the ultimate ultimatum package. I'll give you my take on the device when it arrives.

I have both. I love both of them. The VK is easier....just pop on the cartomizer and off you go. They are not hard to refill at all. The 510, to me, has a harsher throat hit but sometimes I really like that. And the 510 is a little shorter. It really comes down to what you prefer. I have found that the green cig cartomizers last a lot longer (maybe cause they are bigger!!) :) And they really taste good. Especially the pineapple!!! :)

I started using an ecig this past wed.My first was a joye 510.Now please remember this is my experience and sole opinion.I HATE THE %!)%^ 510.I can't stand the fiddling I must always do with it,topping off filling multiple carts BLAH BLAH BLAH.I bought a VK this am and I am sure I will love it.No Muss No Fuss and you can still refill the cartomizers from a VK up to 3 times each with either the same flavor or put in a different one for some new concoction. Plus the kit that I bought (Ultimate, the one with no pcc)
vapor4life sells is a damn good price compared to the 510 kits. you do get alot of bag for your buck.

Sorry for the wall of text,

I've heard nothing but great things about both the 510 and the VK. I, personally would go would the 510 - and get the 510 PCC!

I have a 510 and love it. No experience with the VK, but I have nothing bad to say about the 510. i like the manual and the auto batteries. the manual is more guaranteed with it's vapor and is great when you're watching tv or something that doesn't take hands to do. but i like the auto for when i'm using my hands, like playing video games so i wont have to press pause just to take a drag. just keep it in my mouth and drag it whenever i want to.

somewhere out there......
I love my Vk especially when driving or out of the house. IT simply is easy to use. I use the 510 on my SB (Silver Bullet) when I am home. Which is great simple to drip when your home sitting around. But when your out and about the VK is simply the safest route to go...plus the flavors I get from the VK are phenomenal. The VK batteries last twice as long as the 510 so be ready for that if you get a 510.

I have both as well and they both serve their purposes. I only got the vapor king to test out as I figured I'd buy them for my parents so they can try and quit as the VK is very low maintenance. I was surprised at how much I like it though.

It really depends on what you want from your PV. Here is a little breakdown although this is just my opinion:

Battery life:

510 - Crap... Couple hrs of straight vaping, tops
VK - Decent 5-6 hrs. I only say decent as the fact it's not producing as much vapor helps the batt time. Definately better than the 510 though.

Juice:

510 - Not locked into PG or VG as you are getting your juice elsewhere.
VK - Cartomizers only come in PG. I hear they are adding some VG flavors soon. You can also refill the cartomizer with VG if you want but I also heard that VG doesn't work well in the carts

Vapor:

510 - Great vapor using manual battery
VK - OK vapor, nothing to write home about but this is an automatic battery. Pretty good vapor for an automatic. With VG juices it may improve some but I don't see it producing more than a 510 even with VG juice. The vapor is enough though and with the VK passthrough it's up there witht he 510.

Throat hit:

510 - Decent.... gets better with each atty over time as gunk builds up.
VK - Superb! Even with little vapor you get a very nice TH.

Ease of use:

510 - With all PVs not using cartomizers you will be tinkering with leaky filler/carts, cleaning and replacing dead attys. I actually enjoy this though but it's not for everyone
VK - Superb again. Grab a cartomizer, screw it on and that's it. This was the only reason i bought one as I'm considering them as gifts to lazy people to help them quit.

Upgradeability:

510 atty - Access to most mods if you ever feel like upping the voltage and producing serious vapage.
VK cartomizer - I don't know if any mods support these things although I guess you could build your own connector for it. I doubt the cartomizer would hold up at high voltage though.

Summary:

510:
I love my 510. I have spent hrs upon hrs tinkering with it getting it to do exactly what I want how I want and I'm very happy with it. If you are not put off by maintenance I would go with a 510 or one of the other favorite starter e-cigs as from there you can move into mods if still not happy. With the higher voltage mods you can create all kinds of vape. A lot of people are put off by the inevitable maintenace though and that's where the VK shines.

VK:
I was surprised with this thing. I thought I wouldn't like it but have no regrets with buying it. As others have said VK customer service is just awesome and you are bound to end up with alot of extras in your purchase. Cartomizers are exactly what they advertise as... no maintenance. The only problems I have with the VK is that it only comes with PG liquid as of now (as stated above they are planning on adding VG flavors)and the vapor isn't as good as my 510.

If you are not put off by maintenance and think there is a chance you will be upgrading to a higher end mod I would go with the 510 or one of the other popular atty models.

If you just want to vape with no hassles and don't mind so-so vapor as long as you get a nice big throat hit, I'd go with the VK.

That is exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping to get. Thanks for the very detailed and insightful comparison.

Now I'm leaning strongly towards a VK manual.

Just got my vk manual battery today and it is freaking awesome! Osculum's assesment is pretty right on, but I disagree with the throat hit on the 510. The only time I got a decent throat hit was if I was dripping on the atty or topping off the cart. I could never go back to a 510 after trying the VK. With VK you don't need a mod! Just screw on the cartomizer and go. And refilling the carts are easy! To me there is just no comparison, VK is it! ;) And Steve at Vapor4Life is awesome, he takes care of his customers! Just an awesome experience!

While I haven't gotten mine yet, I did go with the VK manual. So, I think you're like me in that respect. Trying to get the best of both worlds. Like I said previously: I was really leaning towards the 510, but after more research the VK was the one I had to choose (My recommendation is based entirely on web-based research and has nothing to do with real world experience of my own).

The part that made my decision was the part where in order to really get a good 'hit' you had to direct drip, and that's a lot of hassle in my eyes... Either way I think you really can't go wrong, you're getting a PV... that's what matters.... am I right?
