I am in love with my new Riva 510. I came from an RN4072 Penstyle (automatic), which was my first PV.

The Riva produces more vapor, and the batteries last significantly longer, which I love.

But, even though I'm enjoying the Riva, it seems to pack much less of a TH than the RN4072 did.

I think this may have to do with reducing the nicotine level in the liquids I'm vaping. Or, at least, I've read that this can reduce TH.

Or, could it be the 510 atty? Are 901 or 808 attys known to provide a better TH? If so, I could get an adapter and some different attys.

If not, how can I add more TH to my liquids? I read that adding everclear or vodka can increase TH. Does this really work? Is there no chance of the alcohol combusting from the heat of the atty? How much would one add to, say, a 10ml bottle of liquid? A couple drops?

I'd like to continue reducing the nicotine strength in my liquids. I don't want to have to smoke or vape something for the rest of my life. Also, the nicotine has kept me up at night in the past.

Thanks for any help!

I don't have a Riva but you can increase the TH of some PV's by covering one of the intake airholes (if there are more than 1).

Hopefully someone will know the answer (could be one of those atty resistance things?).

You are using the same juice? And are you using carts on the Riva but RN4081 was cartos? In general, the atty in a carto is closer to your mouth and delivers warmer vapor...

The 510 runs hotter than most attys, and should actually provide more throat hit than say a 901. Are your liquids PG or VG? VG has less throat hit, but produces more vapor. Adding alcohol will increase throat hit. A drop per ml is plenty. Use only PGA or vodka. Do NOT use rubbing alcohol. Nicotine levels also affect throat hit. I'm using 11mg now and there is very little, if any, throat hit. I keep a bottle of 24mg around for those times when I want more of a kick.

if I think I want a little more, I add cinnamon, and wow...!!

When I first came here, the idea of pina colada or chocolate flavored (or cinnamon flavored) smoke just sounded strange to me. But as I've gotten used to the idea, it sounds less strange and more intriguing. I might have to get me some cinnamon....

I'm beginning to think that this is actually because I reduced my nicotine content.

I went from 36mg/ml liquids to ~18mg/ml.

I thought my RN4072 was finally dying. But, maybe it was just that I had gotten juice with a reduced nicotine content.

So, adding vodka works, huh? And there's no danger of combustion? Can anyone give me a rundown of how much to try adding?

Thanks, guys!

I know some add vodka, but many also use Everclear (190 proof), but from what I understand, a little goes a long way.
Go over to the DIY section and there should be some info that you can read up on and ask specific questions.
Good Luck!
Thanks, granny! I'll head over to DIY and see if I can find any more info on everclear. I assumed it would be a very small amount (like a drop or two for each 10ml of liquid).

Yeah I would say throat hit has very little to do with the actual product you are using. It comes down to the juice and maybe a slight difference from atomizer to atomizer, but mainly the juice.
Yeah, I think that makes much more sense. If I'd thought it through a little more, that seems pretty obvious. Oh well. :)

In addition to reducing my nic level, I'm also vaping BWB juice now, which is a PG/VG mix. The juice I was used to before was all PG.

Off to buy some everclear and check out the DIY forum...

There are several factors that could lead to less th.
1. The inner chamber is getting flooded. This may produce vapor but with less th.
2. The filler have become rather stiff and doesn't allow the ejuice to pass freely. You need to wash it or replace it.
3. The way you drag may cause different th on different models. Soft gentle drag on 510 should give good th. (I saw someone dragging hard on an ecig because nothing was coming out).
Even a small mixture of H2O still produce th as long as the level of nic is present. Vodka, brandy, whiskey may be added to prevent ejuice turning bad but definitely not to increase th. The taste of alcohol to some may stimulate the th sensation but I still cannot feel anything about the vodka when the nic is low. Good maintenance and understanding is the key to better th as each individual have different taste.

I'm looking for a good place to order some 2.0ohm 510 attys. Can anyone suggest a place.

Also, any more word on whether everclear will increase TH?

Not sure about the 2.0Ω atty, I just ordered a couple of 1.5Ω 510's from Totally Wicked. They work well with my eGo batts. Do you have a pref for 2.0Ω ?

As for Everclear, I have used small amounts of 100 Proof Vodka and it works, just 1/10 ratio should work fine.

Thanks,
Jeff
