5V Box Mod Battery Question

I have a couple battery questions mainly regarding box mods. I want to make my first box mod. I want to make a 5v Bottom Fed Box mod. I have seen tuts on 5v boxes and bottom feeder boxes and plan on combining the two for one awesome box. One thing that confuses me is most of the tuts I see for the 5v mods call for two batteries in a 3XAA box. I would like to use this box, but I need one bay for the bottle. Other mods use one battery and can boost up to 5 volts. What would be the easiest way to get to 5v with one 14500? If I have to get a 4XAA box to do this I will, but I really like the size of 3.

The short answer:

Buck regulators use 2 batteries in series and lower the voltage to, as you want, 5 volts....

Boost regulators can use one battery and boost the voltage to, as you want, 5 volts....

Also, "5v boxmods" include the joys of Pucks, and using 4 or more NiMh rechargables w/o a regulator involved at all.

(My best puck was 4x and had a big, fat electrolytic as well.. Lovely vape)

Yep, a Puck is another option.....they've been around a long time.......but they will be bigger than the 3 cell box you are trying to achieve....you can read about them if interested....

I think for battery life, 2 is better than one battery. Her is one I did a long time ago. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/battery-mods/32247-my-5v-box-mod.html I have progressed way past that, but it was a learning experience.
