After 55 years or so as a dedicated smoker I'm starting to think I've kicked it for good - no urge to light up that one American Spirit I've had sitting in the packet on the coffee table all that time. vaping just tastes better, I get enough umm, "relaxation", from it and I like it. That 55 years is not counting the time when I was about 9 and a bunch of teenagers thought it would be fun to teach the younger kids to smoke... cinnamon sticks, with full inhalation and a hefty throat-hit. Then we moved on to cigs, when available, for about a week till my mother found out. Imagine though: cinnamon as a "gateway to smoking" - they need to ban it.:p

My transition was eased by a week of cold turkey in hospital following major surgery and the Ego Kit my wife had purchased several months before which I'd tried a couple of times, with little enthusiasm. BTW that surgery is not directly related to smoking, though there is some epidemiology suggesting a possible link, but there's that for just about any illness you can get with all the smokers' money sitting in trusts now, waiting for the busybodies to come along.

Anyway I'm feeling good - 12mg ejuice and I'll decide later whether to lower that or eliminate it. I still don't, and won't, hate smokers or smoking; I really enjoyed (loved) it and there'll always be an ashtray in our house for friends but I've moved on.

I've got my first serious equipment upgrade with an Aspire Premium Kit (Nautilus Mini with VV+ battery) - nice vape but a bit cimbersome for on the go so next will be something smaller and lighter - maybe a joyetech eGrip. Thanks for all the great info here - it's a great help to us noobs.

Congratulations on being smoke-free for 7 weeks, especially after being a smoker for so many years. You're off to a great start. I was a very heavy smoker for most of my life and never thought I could ever give it up. It took 3 tries for me, but I finally did it and I'm so thankful that I did. Keep up the good work and welcome to ECF. :toast:

Congrats on 7 weeks smoke free. I was a longtime heavy smoker also. I don't hate smokers, but after 8 months, I hate the smell. My daughter smokes outside and there is an ashtray. When I'm out on the patio I have to constantly move the stinky ashtray to the far reaches of the patio from where I am. I don't hate the smell of a burning cigarette, but the ashtray odor and the smell that stays on people's clothing afterward is disgusting. I was at the eye doctor the other day sitting in the lobby when an elderly woman came in and sat 2 chairs away with the stale smoke smell coming from the sweater she was wearing. I almost had to get up and move, but fortunately they called me in for my exam.

Hi Laird and welcome to ECF. Huge congrats on quitting after all those years of smoking! I smoked for 37 years and it was tough for me.

I also don't have a problem with cigarette smoke or smokers. When I vape in public I hang with the smokers in the smoking section. I still appreciate the smell of smoke and those are the folks that need exposure and info on vaping the most.

Vape on my friend :)
