801-510 Adapter - Can I Still Use My 801 Charger

Status

I received my package by Canada Post and will be picking it up today. I ordered a 801-510 adapter so I can use 510 cartomizers with the 801. The question is, can I still use my 801 charger with the 510 adapter or do I have to keep taking the adapter off in order to charge it? I hadn't thought of this when I placed my order. If I had I would have bought a 510 charger too. Also can it strip the threads if I have to keep taking the adapter off to charge? Thanks

My guess is that the threading will be different so you need to take the adaptor off . You don't need to have the adaptor on really tight just hand tight but if you have a problem taking it off most pliers have a round area at the bottom of the jaws that is perfect for that . It is better that then damaging threads with the teeth of the pliers . You can get some noalox to lube the threads that should help .

You should be screwing it down tight to the cartomizer first then to your battery so as not to damage threads or ever tighten onto the battery

not 100% true. It depends on how the adaptor is set up. It's the centre pin you need to worry about. Look at both ends of the adaptor at the centre pin. Which ever is larger diameter is the part you should screw on first. It could be either the battery end or the carto end depending on how it was made. The adaptor is nothing more than a cylinder witha peg (that has a head like a nail) in the middle and non-conductive material separating the two. Each end is then threaded for your connections. Connecting the end with the wider diameter centre pin first ensures that this pin can not be popped out by accident. Like Slojas says, you only want it finger tight, so it makes contact and doesn't wobble. Too much pressure on the centre pin of your Battery and you could end up with a dead short, or worse.

Some adaptors will allow you to adjust the height of the centre pin with a screwdriver to give you the best contact and "look" (No gaps when connected to either end)

A good trick to taking an adaptor off if it is too tight, is to wrap an elastic band around the threads that are exposed. This will provide a really good grip for your fingers to grasp it.
This also helps if you have meaty fingers and have trouble with grasping small items.

Or for those of you who don't have valet parking at Home Depot a rubber band wrapped around the threads can then be turned forcefully with the fingers or brutally with 2 quarters or loonies or a pair of those cheap pliers.
