Would there be a noticeable difference in throat hit/vape temperature between the two? Since they would both be running on 14500's, would they be similar?

I have a 510 with a USB passthrough and 2 batteries right now, and I'm thinking about just using that at home / when I go drink and getting an 801 boxmod as my main vape, provided that they have similar throat hits and vape temp.

Or should I just forget about the 801 and get a 510 boxmod since I already have extra parts for it.

In my somewhat limited experience, its all about the atomizers. I have never used an 801, so I can't speak to that. Having used 401, 901 and 510 (made a NicoStick for each) I can tell you that the 510 and 901 are very close, but I always seem to gravitate to the 510.
I'd say that if you're liking the 510, it makes more sense to stay with it rather than collect a whole bunch of parts for incompatible devices.

(Having said that, I keep thinking about getting some 801 attys and building a mod, just to check it out!!):D

801 is a different animal. I happen to love it best out of what I've tried so far. The draw is very easy. I'd suggest trying a really cheap 801 setup like the USB be112 e-cig kit for 20 bucks from bestecig. The reason I'd pick that one is because it's at the extreme end of 801-ness as far as easy draw is concerned, and it's cheap as sin. I love the 510 also, and I'm tending to use my dura-c in the car for short trips and sometimes in public settings because it's more discreet. My main vap though is a janty stick specifically because I love the 801 atty's.
