Howdy! :) This is my first starting post, so I hope some veterens are trolling the board... I need a little help. I've searched endlessly, and can't quite find my answer, so I thought I'd post.

I have decided to get a penstyle for my "pacifier" and am on the fence between the 801 and 901.

I want: lots of vapor, flavor, long battery, auto

I don't want: heavy TH, constant refilling

Right now I have the 510 Joye (which I love) and the 808 (which I hate.. so whimpy~). But my 510 constantly needs refilled and the batteries are.. eh :p

Any opinions?

I have a 510 MKI ScrewDriver, a 901 MKII ScrewDriver, and a 801/112 SP2. Of the 3, the 510 atomizer beats the others over all. I use blue foam for a cartridge filler and it works awesome with the 510. I have tried to really like my 901, and it is ok. But as far as cart size, really no difference to the 510. The throat hit is not as pronounced either. Flavor is about the same, maybe a little less. I think the 510 makes more vapor.

The 801. The cartridge is a cavern. I thought I would like this. But filling it takes a lot of fluid and I usually end up wasting it. As far as vapor, as long as the atty is kept wet, it makes great vapor, but it seams "dryer" and also I don't get any of the flavor that I am able to get with my 510 or 901. I usually just direct drip if I decide to use the 801.

I really like my SD MKI 510's. Awesome vapor at 3.7v, great batt life, and good flavor. I don't have to constantly top off with the blue foam. I hang mine around my neck or stuff it in my pocket. The MKI's are avail in 510, 901, or 801 now. They are slightly smaller and lighter then the MKII's do to battery size that's used mostly.

I guess what I am trying to say is that a slight mod to your cart and decent battery and the 510 more then meets the mark. I think you will be dissappointed with the other atty's after using the 510. IF the throat hit is too much on a 510 I usually find it's starting to run dry.

Oh also have a super mini. It makes good vapor and flavor and is OK for an auto batt. Batt's don't last long, cart only holds about 4 drops. But it's my pen in a pocket vape if I need it.

ok i started on an 801 then switched to a 901. I hate the 901's. super sensitive. either they are dry and get burnt or flooded. i cant find the middle grounds and have been beating my head on the wall. 901's need alot of liquid. they produce awesome vaper but to me not work it. i loved the 801 didnt have as much vaper production but not so sensitive awesome starter kit for a beginer. this is all just personall experience.

The 901 is not a pen style - only the 801 is a pen. And while it does not need to be refilled quite as often, the battery doesn't exactly last till kingdom come, either. (On both, actually.) Also, the 901 and the 510 carts are interchangeable, so do guess about the refilling ;)

What about eGo batteries and mega carts for your 510 instead? Especially since the 901 is much softer in taste and TH than the 510, so you might not even be that fond of it.

I am a 510 fan myself after having tried the 901 and 801. For flavor, it can not be beat. It is really a trade off no matter which one you chose.

If you decide to continue vaping and want to eliminate constant filling; I suggest that you consider something like the Juicebox or one of the GG's with AFS.

I do not own a juicebox but have watched the reviews. It has a bigger battery and a place for juice so that you do not have to constantly refill.

The GG comes in a variety of sizes all of which use bigger batteries. The creator is also redesigning his "Automatic Feed System" so it fits all the types. This will eliminate the need for filling a lot.

If you decide you do not mind filling but hate the battery life, there are many different battery mods on this forum.

I am loving the 801 even more than my beloved 510. Huge cart and I don't refill even a fourth as often as with the others I have used. I get good flavor, great vapor and a bit more throat hit than I like with the 801. I think you just have to try several to find what works best for you. I also love the Ikenvape lazer, batteries last a good time and can use a 510 atty.

I started with the 801, and then tried about every model out there (yikes). After a year, I still use the penstyle model attys every day (about 90% of the day) and use my 510 the other 10% (usually with menthol). Can't beat the flavor and cart size of the 801 models. The low bridge versions (BE112, 302, RN4072) are great and for the most part, work with anything that an 801 fits.

I use my 302 penstyle attys with a Chuck and Little Chuck. Womper vapor and is perfect!!

Only problem with penstyles is that they aren't as hardy as the 510. I've never lost a 510 (one with a funky burned taste I don't use) and I have a pile of dead soldier 801/302/RN4072 which equal about one dead per month. Not bad.

    Thanks for all the opinions.

I DO love my 510, but I'm looking for something that is softer; for an all day vape.

I know that I need to tone down the nic level, but sometimes I find that I am either:
1)overfilling and flooding my 510, or
2)dragging on it too soon, and getting a burnt/hot taste.

I did some research, and it seems like the 801 or 901 would be a good alternative. I don't think I'm ready to switch to the higher power mods just yet, rather I'm wanting something to fill with no nic, or very low to to puff/puff/puff on and not get all jittery!

    Any opinions on best brand?

PS> I'm using some craft foam, I think similiar to the blue stuff. Still messing around trying to find what material works best for me.

Overfilling and drag-to-burn you can do with any PV, not just 510s. I do like my 901 occasionally, but for 801s I wait for the BabyJ which should come out in a few weeks; both 801 and 901 batteries are not quite as good as the 510s, it seems to me. For the 901, the KR8 batteries are a good alternative, for the 801, mods, which is why I wait for the BabyJ. Check the Janty board for info on that one.

Not a veteran (only 6 week-old vaper), but here is my take on pen-style and 901:

I'd quit analogs with JantyStick V3.
It's rather good mod: adequate battery life, cheaper batteries, can vape while charging on USB cable. It's also "stealthy gadget".
Bit messy to clean when juice leaks into device. While chain-vaping, atty gets hot due to inadequate air-flow to cool the atty. Anyway, it's a very good platform for pen-styles.
I have total of 3 Joye-302 attys, each one performs in a different way - taste, amount of vapor, TH (I use Fluval cart mod), but they do share a "common signature".
Can fill the cart with 20 drops without strong leakage.

A week ago got 901 adaptor and atty.
Modded cart with fluval, broke-in for couple of days and in comparison with Joye 302 it has harder airflow, warmer vapor, stronger taste and a bit stronger TH.
Cart can hold 10 drops, without significant leakage.

Waiting for a pair of DSE-801 to throw them in comparison…

All that atty/cart fillings/platform thing reminds me my "holy-grail searches" in my head-fi hobby…a lot of try-outs to find what my ears like better. I solved it by spending couple of days day in hi-end audio shop with my most-loved CDs testing various combinations of cans/amps/players. I see strong parallels in vaping to Hi-Fi…you have to try it *yourself*. In audio, it's transducer (cans or speaker) that makes 80% of the whole thing, IMHO in vaping the atty is equal to transducer, juice is equal to your beloved CDs and amp/player is equal to battery/housing.
