Wow, it is my own 100 day mark of not smoking!!

Here is a re-cap of my smoking years: Started smoking non-filtered cigarettes (Camels) at 15 as kind of a test… “If I can handle these, I will be a smoker – if not, I will be a non-smoker”… Well, it stuck and my smoking addiction went on to become a 1-2 pack a day habit for the last 35 years. I moved from Camel non-filtered to Camel Filters to Camel Lights as the years passed. In my forties, I quit several times; varying from a month to almost a year. Invariably, I found myself falling off the wagon and bumming a cigarette whenever I found a friend smoking “my brand”.

Both of my parents smoked cigarettes. My father now has advanced stage emphysema and my mother was diagnosed with COPD ten years ago and lung cancer five years ago. Upon being notified of my mom’s cancer, I made a concerted effort to quit smoking for good. What a battle! During this time I tried patches, gum, cold turkey, Wellbutrin and even hypnosis. All utter failures… I remember five years ago of going out for a cigarette while my mother was in surgery to remove a part of her own lung. The surgeon came out to tell my siblings about the outcome of her surgery and I was there, reeking of cigarette smoke!

I discovered e-cigarettes through an acquaintance that had brought me a brochure from a mall kiosk e-cig salesman. They had given him a “trial puff” and he was amazed at the “real cigarette” feel of the vapor. I went on the web to find out more about these crazy “e-cig things” and came across this website. After lurking for a few days, I purchased my first PV (a Joye 510), e-juice and PCC from one of our trusted vendors.

My initial reaction to vaping was one of complete surprise and I quit smoking analogs that very day! I remember reading a post here from one of our members who said “…All I know is that I was hopelessly addicted to Marlboro Reds in every way (like most every smoker), and just up and quit painlessly. I know I'm ranting and making a speech here but it's the truth. To be honest, the fact that I no longer smoke is ......n ridiculous...” I couldn’t have said it any better.

It pains me to inform this forum, that my mother passed away of lung cancer on January 29th of this year. Through my sorrow, I can at least take some solace in that she finally got to see me quit smoking (for good) through my use of the e-cigarette.

The fact that I have now quit smoking for 100 days is no surprise. Because of e-cigarettes, I will never go back to smoking analogs. Period. My surprise remains with the fact that e-cigarettes are not completely mass-marketed to every smoker on this crazy planet of ours.

Condolences to you. I am right there with you in your efforts to continue to a new life and a healthier future. Like you, I was done smoking on day one and continue with absolutely no desire to touch another analog as long as I live. I honestly still enjoy vaping as much as I did the first week.

And in a way it really is ridiculous how easy it was to quit smoking with such a relatively simple gizmo that I never expected to work so well as it just seems to get better and better. My oldest sister has COPD and has continued to smoke up until she ended up in the emergency room on the past xmas day. She came -><- this close to ending up in the morgue and fortunately (although too late) she hasn't had a cig since then.

I only wish this invention existed many years ago as after 36+ years I know there's been a lot of damage done, but hopefully you and I both are on the mend.

Congrats on your 100 days as we all enjoy our freedom from the grasp of big tobacco!

Congrats I'm a new vapor...2 days now.
Your story really spoke to me
I smoked for 35 years,up to 3 packs a day,and
have COPD...my lungs collaspe and I still couldn't quit...
tried everything.
I prayed for help and somehow I ended up on this site.
Honestly I have no clue what led me here.

Really sorry you lost your Mom...I lost mine to breast cancer when
she was 52...I didn't realize until I turned 52 just how young
was.I never smoked in front of her... always tried to hide from my family.
Didn't stay long when I visited...because I wanted to go smoke.
Now I know they must of all knew from the smell.
I'll never forgive myself for wasting those moments...
that I could have spent with her.

Im sure your Mom was in peace knowing you quit...
I think the best we all can do now...is help spread the word
about e-cigs.

Awesome, I made 100 days a few weeks ago and will never go back.

It's no exaggeration to say that I loved smoking more than my own life and after 24 years I quit the day my 510 came in the mail.

The do-gooders and know-it-alls trying to protect the public health will never understand why we defend vaping so vigorously but we know why we do it and we know that we are the only people that stand between ignorance and the chance for the people that have failed in every other way to finally be free from tobacco.

I literally feel like somebody pulled me out of the way from an oncoming bus.

Vaping may not be the healthiest thing you can do (not that the verdict is in on that lol)but compared to the alternative it's not too shabby.

lol not exactly correct...

A century's worth of days is actually 36525 days.

How about all of those extra leap year days??

LOL

Thank you all for your kind words and support! I can't help but think that we are all on the leading edge of a fundimental change in the smoking habits of millions...

Would have loved to have seen Sigourney Weaver vape on Avatar. The most glaring mistake of the movie, IMHO.

Brad, so very sorry that you lost your mum recently.

Here's a nice thought for you though: I'm struggling with e-cigs (getting the right model, getting the right tastes, flooding, leaking etc etc) so although I wish I could have been as successful as you and quite the same day as I got my first e-cig, it's just not going to be like that for me.
When I have a trouble free day I feel elated thinking; soon I'll not have any anologs today!!...;but then the next day everything will go wrong and I'll be rushing about trying to change batteries, blow out attys and then obviously everything else will go wrong too just to pee me off8-o

Reading stories like yours gives me the strength and momentum to keep at it though and not give up on my e-cigs-so thankyou very much for being brave enough to post your feelings and story on here for us. :)

I accounted for that, 365.25 days per year.
