A common occurrence - factory wraps the coils around the wick way too tight.

I've bought many different carto's in the past few months, 90% of them perform terrible.. dry smell, little vapor production.

This can be caused by a number of reasons, but a common reason I found is that the factory simply wraps the coil around the wick way too tight, causing bad juice flow, resulting in overheating and low vapor production.

Solution?
> Simply unwind the end of the wick(s), pull out one or two threads of the wick, reinstall - problem solved!

Solution for factories?
> Place a piece of wire down the length of the wick, wrap the coil around the wick and wire, remove the wire so there is a decent gap.

I'm currently using Vivi Nova carto's, the first one was great for 10 days or so until it started with the carbonized burning smell.
Dry burned it, it worked fine for a few days but started burning again.

Popped in a brand new coil, instant burning/dry smell, horrible performance. Tried another brand new coil, same problem
I noticed that I couldn't move the wick through the coil at all. The coil was wrapped VERY tight

Convinced that the juice was not reaching the coil properly, I pulled out 2 out of 12 or so threads so the wick can move freely (there was probably half a millimetre clearance from the wick to the coil), the first few puffs were questionable, but once the juice was flowing it performed great!

I have yet to confirm this with the other brands of carto's, but I commonly recall coils being very tight, I believe this is the major cause of bad vapor production with new coils/wicks in general.

Seems obvious in a way... you have a candle, you wrap a wire around the base of the wick... the wax cannot flow up to the top of the wick, the flame goes out due to lack of fuel.
Same story with carto's right? Lack of juice, little vapor production. Overheating, carbon build up.
A gap between the coil and wick should be a standard procedure during the manufacturing of carto's imo.

Happy vaping :)

...after a few hours of testing this theory, the Viva Nova with the 2 threads removed is performing way better than the original coil that lasted 10 days.

After removing some of the wick threads, with the extra gap between the coil and wick, the Nova performs well even when the juice drops below 50% now.
In it's factory state, the Nova starts to dry up once the juice gets below 75%.
In the new gap state, I am down to 40% juice and it is performing way better than the factory state :)
