this health section is almost dizzying. You have a lot of anxious people who think everything that happens is related to vaping because they have anxiety about it, and on the other hand you have people who might be getting ill effects from vaping who are ganged up on. Like there could be absolutely nothing wrong with vaping. Almost like a religious ferocity. If your not in the cult get out type attitude.
The bottom line , and I will speak very simply without any fancy rhetoric. Common sense would tell us that vaping is safer than smoking cigarettes. However, we can't know anything for sure. We have some studies, some information, but this type of technology is pretty new.
Cigarettes are the known devil of our society. We hear how bad they are all the time by the anti tobacco folks. The truth of the matter is cigarettes are really bad but they are notorious long term killers. People who generally smoke 2 or more packs a day for many decades get serious disease. It is the addiction to cigarettes that is the killer, not even the cigarettes themselves for obvious reasons. You can't consume that much of a toxic poison for so many years and not die. Its a gradual death. Now the problem is we are comparing something that is relatively unknown to something that is a known terror and we get a false sense of security. Hell we can list all the carcinogens and tar and whatever ingredients that are harmful in cigarettes but not in e-cigarettes one by one through all 2,000 of them and come to a common sense conclusion that ecigs are 100000x's safer. But I think we need to do more than that.
A block of cheese by itself looks harmless compared to a cigarette when you only state what is not in the cheese but in cigarettes. However if you ate 20 to 30 blocks of cheese as you would cigarettes for 30 years you most likely will die a quicker death than from cigarettes. It is the unknowns about ecigs that people should have some concern over. what does inhaling pg, flavorings and other ingredients do to the body after 20 years of non stop use. Who really knows this? no one. In fact we don't really know what is in our juice. A lot of people get juice from China which is notorious with quality control issues... And even here, anyone can throw up a website and start mixing juices in their basement and sell them. There really is no regulation at all. There are a lot of unknown factors.
The biggest problem of all to me is.. Just like everything else you have two sides and each side doesn't have the common user in mind. The electronic cigarette industry is just that an industry. They are about money just as much as the pharm companies are..... Even though the juices being sold and purchased are completely unregulated with possibly anything in them, They will stand on the side that ecigs are much more safe and a viable alternative to cigarettes. the other side is big pharma, tobacco companies, the fda, etc, all of which probably see ecigs as a threat to profits and want to get rid of or control them regardless how safe or not they actually are
So my biggest question to you guys is .. How do we find the middle of the road. How can we assure that these products are the safest they can be and acknowledge that the risks are still not yet fully understood.. without the industry collapsing or banning e-cigs..
