A few Evod questions from a newbie

Hey folks --

So I've spent the last 10 days devouring all the information on this site, but I'm still sort of confused about hardware and hardware maintenance -- just don't have a great mind for that stuff in the first place, and not really finding the type of info I'm looking for. So perhaps y'all will help me out?

I'm vaping with a Kanger Evod starter kit I bought. Came with two Evods, two batteries labelled Evod and seven atomizers. Been really happy with it (it arrived on July 6, and I haven't smoked a cigarette since then... 15 year 30-cig a day smoker until that exact day!)

Question one: one of the Evods contains my main ADV. About five days ago I noticed the vape quality was reduced -- less of a hit. After sourcing it out it feels like it's drawing too much air somehow. I started plugging one or two of the little holes with my hands which seems to help, but is annoying. I can also see a VERY tiny gap between how far down on the battery the clearo will sit... like a fraction of a millimetre, but there's just the tiniest gap where the base of the threading is visible that isn't true for my other clearo. I don't think it was originally like this and I can't tighten it any more.

Any ideas about what to do here? Do I need to clean the atomizer? Or is something about the set-up keeping it from fully screwing down? Or is this all in my head?

Question two: I'd like to get a tank for some of the clearo-eating juices I have on the way. What I can't figure out is whether or not these Evod-branded batteries and atomizer attachments that came in the kit will fit with tanks. I see all this lingo about different types of batteries and I don't really know how these ones apply. The instructions offer zero help. Do I need to get a new battery and tank set-up?

Thanks folks!

(P.S. -- managed to luck into AVE being open this morning and got a big ol' 100 mL of Boba's and a smaller one of Gorilla juice. Can't wait to try it!)

Hello and welcome. When the vape quality deteriorates it usually means that the coil/head needs to be replaced. You can rinse and dry them after every few tanks to get them to last a bit longer. I believe (always exceptions) any ego style tank will work on them.
edit: also i dont use a evod battery but on my wifes it seems that the tank needs to twist down a little farther than i normaly would and it seems to tighten up the draw alot.

Great, thank you folks. I couldn't figure out if the Evod batteries fit that "510 / ego threaded" thing I keep hearing about.

As for the airy draw issue, it isn't present on the other clearo and as best I can remember wasn't an issue with this one either. It's developed sort of a quiet whistling sound during the inhale that I'm sure it wasn't doing at first. So obviously the fit of the clearo or atomizer on the battery changed somehow but I don't know how to fix it.

I'm sure someone will come along and let you know about the airy draw issue!

But do yourself a favor and don't tight the EVODs much. Just use the tip of your finger to put on and off. If tighten up more than that, you run the risk of breaking the threading and assembly on top of your battery and you will have to get another.

You should be able to put on and off using only one hand.

2nd this. Alot of EVOD problems (leaking, airyness) stem from over tightening. The more you use it, those seals will become more pliable and expand, so you dont have to crank them down.
Try pulling out the base, unscrew the head (assuming the head is still good), and finger tighten the head. Then finger tighten the base. Finally, tighten up the clearo to the battery. This will be a little tighter though.
With most ego batteries, you run the risk of pushing the battery pin down by over tightening. If you've done this, you can use a small screwdriver to pull it back up.

Any gaps between the evod and the battery is fine. That last thing you should be doing to torquing that thing down until it is totally flush. Hand tighten, don't use force.

Sounds like the coil is just a little dirty. Try rinsing the coil in some warm water and using a paper towel to wick out the water.. or soak in vodka for a night... search around, there is a million ways to clean a coil.

I'm just jumping in here to mention there are alot of Evod models out there.. Not all the ones being sold are actual "Kanger Evod's" there are over 15 companies I can think of that are producing their own version of the Evod in China most of these you'll find on Fast Tech these models are usually being sold cheap and yes they leak and use different wicking material than the Original Evod.. You can test yours by Dry burning your wick just look it up on utube for a how to dry burn lesson. If the wick burns up and disappears it's a knock off. My Advice is to be diligent and make sure your buying quality Kanger tech tanks, bats, and replacement coils.. I have vaped for months on 10 replacement atomisers. Just boil and burn and boil let dry and away you go.. Also removing the flavor wick and vaping with out it is a tricky art as they will gurgle if you dont do it right. Try not to let the tank lie on it's side for too long these tanks like to be in upright position. An they allways leak a little when you open then up for refill just keep it in mind and keep a paper towel or something handy. Hope This helps. Ego Evod is not Kanger Evod just keep an eye out...
