Hello!
I'm new to the whole vaporizing thing. This forum has proven to be a really valuable resource for me in finding information about electronic cigarettes. Most of the stuff I'm going to ask has probably been answered already, but I'm super busy with finals coming up in school (I'm a student of electrical engineering at UCSD...talk about hectic!) and I am wondering if you can point me at the most relevant threads or help distill answers down for me.
So I was given an X-Power starter kit (510 threads M301/M601 threads I believe...please correct me if I am wrong) as a gift from a friend; I am pretty sure it is the same as this one. Some pictures of my exact kit are here. Both of my atomizers fried; the girl that gave it to me put some pure lime flavor in one as an experiment and it tasted totally awful after that, the other just died after about a week of usage. The long and the short of it is that I am back on analogs and not very happy about it; I'm starting to getting sick and can't smell or taste anymore.
My first question is regarding replacement batteries and chargers. If I get a different battery, can I use the same charger (assuming the threads are the same size)? This battery is Li-ion, right? Also, if I get a different charger, can I use it with the same batteries? I'd like to have a couple at my disposal.
[edit] Any suggestions on the best 301/601 thread size atomizers or cartomizers? Should I get an adapter to 510? Should I switch batteries to go with 510 hardware? [/edit]
A friend had recommended the low resistance Cisco 510 atomizers and the E2 Royal Smoker v4 2.5 ohm cartomizers. Any experience with either of these? Also, would you recommend anything in particular? With the atomizers, I would be dripping. I had read that cartomizers seem to have issues with the wicks burning, is this the case on the E2 Royal Smoker v4's? Is it heat dependent (i.e. would a higher resistance model not end up burning the wicks)? I think that the polyfill/atomizer route seems to be a little bit crude and was finicky in my week of initial usage (probably due to a level of lameness on my part); I just want a solution that works consistently well. If I have to drip to get good consistent vapor, then I will, but I would really prefer to fill the device about once or twice a day tops and just use it. [edit] One other note, I am not interested in anything that is pre-filled; I've bought e-liquid from Tasty Vapor already and want to know where all the liquid I use comes from. [/edit]
Regarding atomizers/cartomizers, do you have any recommendations as to where to buy them? There appear to be a lot of charlatans out there in the electronic cigarette business. Also, are they all manufactured in China? I would love to have a USA/Europe manufactured atomizer or cartomizer if I could get my hands on one, mostly to alleviate my concerns about materials sourcing (i.e. lead paint, chemicals used in the manufacturing process, etc.).
My final question is more looking to the future of where the atomizers/cartomizers are going than it is about me and my vaporizing. Are there any devices on the market that attempt to implement control systems to stabilize the temperature while vaporizing? I think that is definitely the future of where this all is headed; I might even try to design a device that does that myself should one not already exist (once finals are over
).
Thank you very much! My lungs, sense of smell and taste, and non-smoker friends will appreciate any help you can provide
. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
