Whats your preferred total flavor percentage?
Depends on numerous factors, mainly how sensitive your taste buds are. Rule of thumb: The younger you are, the more sensitive your taste buds should be.
I mix between 10 and 20% most of the time.
Which ones are primary flavors, which are secondary?
? Normally, the primary flavor receives the largest flavor percentage of the mix and secondary (s) receive the remainder.
Normally how many primaries and secondaries do you need in each recipe?
For me, a primary is just that. One flavor.
Secondaries are just that, the remaining flavors.
How many, up to the mixer.

I see, so its not like odd vs even numbers, any flavor can be primary as long as you give it the most % in the mix of flavors?

Unless you're mixing a tried and true recipe, you're better off starting with single-flavor mixes. This will save you money in the long run and you'll get to know how each flavor tastes by itself.

So if I wanted to do Banana Custard, I should just do 10% BC then the rest is base?

Wanted to experiment with the following flavors
Banana Custard
Graham Cracker
Cotton Candy
Strawberry Ripe

When I'm using a new (to me) flavor, I search here or .................... to see what percentage others are using that flavoring at. I mix a small (10mL) bottle at that percentage and take notes on my impressions for future reference.

I can tell you from experience that Strawberry Ripe is great by itself at 7%.

Thanks. I have been using e liquid recipe. I just wasn't experimenting with alot of flavors. I do see alot of recipes using strawberry ripe.

I guess it takes some self-tinkering to get the flavor you want. Thanks

No.

The above statement stands as said.
Many factors come into play when defining a primary flavor. Strength of flavor, an individuals sensitivity to the flavor, what the flavor's mix with and so forth.

Alright, so say I want a Banana Custard Graham cracker flavor with Cotton Candy and strawberry ripe.

Then BC and GC are my primary and CC and SR are my secondary. I think I'm going to test this one out. Thanks for all the input.

[edit] I just recently made a Unicorn Milk, recipe found on e-liquid recipe dot com. The flavoring was >20% of the 30ml liquid, really digging this percentage. Vaped it straight out the bottle and its really good, better than anything I've DIY'd. Can only imagine if I had the patience to let it steep for a couple days.

My recipes range from 12 to 25%. prmary and secondary flavors are interchangeable, it just depends on what you are looking for. I have some recipes with a total of 4 flavors in them and a couple with 8 or 9 in them My favorite primary flavors are peach, watermelon, grapefruit, Berries, and creams, but then again some of those become the secondary in some mixes I have about 50 flavors that I keep in stock. Most in 120ml bottles but I have a few that I order in smaller bottles because they are very secondary like maraschino cherry, honey, cinnamon, and sour. In fact the honey and cinnamon are so strong that I make 50/50 dilute mixes with them and VG and use as full strength in my mixes.

That sounds good. Don't go too high on the cotton candy bexause it's known to mute flavors. Just use a percentage or two.
