So here is my issue
trying to kick a 30 year habit smoking half a pac a day Marlboro ultra lights.
Purchased a "starter kit" about a month ago which seemed fine until I started visiting these forums and mechanical mods RDA/RBA, you know the drill.

I first purchased a cheap mod for 17.00 and added a Kanger Protank and loved it except for the gurgling and leaking from the tank.

Next I purchased a couple mods a Nanos Sleek, Kryptonite KSS and a JD stingray (yeah I'm like that)

I am currently using a Kfun lite plus tanks built from the shop I purchased them from and the flavor is amazing BUT I can’t vape this set up without getting a sore throat or choking.
This does not happen with the cheap mod and kanger pro tank.

I Vape 6mg 100 % VG from Velvet cloud Blue beard tobacco (I tried PG first but got stomach aches and heartburn)

with the cheap mod I can lung inhale like a mad man without any problems.
I have no tickle no want to choke.
I little guidance here would be great as I really want to enjoy vaping and use the mods that I have instead of the pen type e cigs.

Kinda hard to help without knowing what resistance coil is in your KFL.
You really need a way to measure resistance & battery voltage when using a mechanical.

Could be too low resistance, maybe a hot spot or loose screw, maybe wicking or airflow inadequacies, could be time to re wick, maybe gunk built up on the coil.

5/64 - with 26 gauge with 7 wraps if that helps

Not quite - you have an ohmmeter to measure? Sounds like a sub-ohm coil, which isn't necessarily recommended for kayfuns - you could melt the insulator.

You're probably rocking vapor production because of the VG and the lower-ohm builds. Try to back off your hit or do a mouth to lung hit instead of a straight lung hit?

Hopefully you can get this sorted out :)

Will have the ohm meter any day now
Mouth to lung same result

I also have the same build in a plume veil and I can't even hit that with 3mg juice

Try taking shorter drags. That will sort of simulate a lower power setup. Or, try pulsing the button for the same length drag you're used to. That is almost exactly the same as a lower power setup and is something you can do right now. Lower power in a mechanical is done by increasing the coil resistance.

If that doesn't help and you're using 3 mg juice, try a higher VG juice. Also try a different flavor juice from a different manufacturer. There's an outside chance it could be one of the ingredients in the juice you're using. If any of this makes an improvement, you'll have a direction to explore.

ETA: I assume you know what a burnt hit tastes like and that's not the issue here :)

1: For your sakes, slow down.
2: Ok, the kfun fog chamber is like 10 times bigger than a little piddlely diddly protank coil chamber.
---translation---- as said below-- maybe you need to drop the nic strength on the kayfun tank compared to what you would use in a simple protank.

I'm used to protanks myself, and recently got a kayfun; you said 6mg; that's basically what I'm vaping also; had a tickelish time for the first week which I think was machine oil down in the kayfun -1- the fillhole valve area 2- the airhole 3- the airflow control screw (machine oil makes cough)

I am currently using a Kfun lite plus tanks built from the shop
If they set you up with a subohm coil then I hope you sue.

I've had bad luck with really harsh hits if I:

1) Don't have the coils placed in a good spot, relative to the airholes. This mainly happened with my dripping atomizer, less with the Kayfun.

2) Use too little wick. Depending on what you're wicking with (rayon especially) the wick can lose contact with the coil, causing certain parts of the coil to heat up to the point of burning the wick, creating harsh hits.

Here's my take:
Go back to the shop and say:

28 gauge
and 1 ohm MINIMUM

Capice!?

That's a reasonable build for a Kayfun, although and even larger coil would be better.

I will suggest that the problem is the wicking, not 6mg nicotine. Especially considering that you are vaping a high VG liquid. When VG burns, it gives a nasty gagging throat hit, and it's not good for you.

It's the build and the juice almost certainly. I second what others have said. 28g above 1ohm and you need a bigger coil. I vape 100% vg in my Kayfun and found out 5/64 was too small for all vg even on an MVP at a mere 11w. Wick couldn't keep up. Sub ohm on a mech and there's no way your keeping your wick full of juice. Went to a 7/64 drill bit for wrapping coils and now the wick can keep up. Currently running 28g 9wrap 7/64bit 1.8ohm 100%vg 17.5watts. I can chain vape that without getting dry or burnt hits. The flavor, warmth and vapor are spectacular with that setup. You may need lower resistance that what I'm using, but I'd at least keep it above 1. Let us know when you get it worked out.

Fantastic news I will go that route this weekend and report back.

One o these days i'm a gonna try a quarter inch coil
