Several years ago, in the "early days", I strolled around in a popular Floridian mouse-themed park with my Joye 510 - waiting for someone to take offense so I could launch into my "speech" extolling the virtues of e-cigarettes. After all, it was 2008 and we KNEW tobacco was on its last legs.

Ironically, when the security guard came up (and I took a deep breath) he stopped me and quicky explained that he knew what e-cigs were, but that other people might see me "smoking" and they would think they could fire up too.

After realizing my cause was not necessarily HIS to enforce, I finally respected his position. Just as we expect considerate smokers to abide by clean "shared air" rules, we should likewise respect the wishes of those who don't yet understand smoke-free alternatives like e-cigarettes. Blowing PG into someone's face and explaining, "it isn't smoke" does nothing to convince anyone.

Ours is a battle of perception. If whipping out an e-cig makes more of a disruption than walking outside to smoke an analog - go outside. You do smoking alternatives no advantage my vaping in the glare of a waiting room than a smokeless tobacco user does by spitting into the trash can by the water fountain

My name is Michal "Webby" Douglas. I was a three pack a day cigarette smoker until I discovered e-cigarettes. Two years ago, I was one of the founders or the Consumer Advocates for Smoke Free alternatives.

Today - two years later - I DO NOT SMOKE TOBACCO.

Be a witness to what harm reduction can do, not a hinderance.

I know this is an old thread, but I just read it for the first time. Excellent post :)

I wish more people could understand and take to heart this statement. I see far too many people being agressive, confrontational and disrespectful in their defense of their right to vape, all the while not even realizing the harm they are inflicting on the cause (and the very same arguments that they are trying to make). It's not just with ecigs, the same mindset is prevalent on other subjects, but on this subject it is disheartening to be treated poorly as a vaper solely because someone else has behaved like this and given people a bad taste in their mouth regarding vaping/vapers. There is no second chance on a first impression :2c:
