Hey folks

Been lurking for over a year now, soaking up as much of the vast amount of information and useful tips as i could in that time. Only really posting here to get my five posts out of the way tbh, so that i'm able to post in the Recipe Calculator thread and thank HotRod19579 for a fantastic recipe calculator. Used the other one juice Calculator for a long time, and although it's good, it's not a patch on HotRods!

Anyway, no first post would be complete without a short intro i suppose, so here's my story for anyone interested...

Was a smoker for over 35 years. Proper hardcore militant one too, pretty much decided that i was going to be a smoker for life. Never once tried to give up in all that time, as i knew there was no point in trying... simply because i didn't want to give up and never had. Due to the expense of smoking (especially when i only smoke Marlboros) i made my own tailor mades with imported Marly baccy tubs from Germany (little to no tax if it's not an actual ciggy, you see).

Last year though, we were going away for six weeks abroad, and i had no shipments coming in - no friends or family visiting for six weeks - so i thought i'd try ecigs just to tide me over till i got back and could receive my baccy tubs again. I'd tried ecigs a few years before, but the technology wasn't anywhere near as good then as it is now so i thought it might be worth a punt.

Did my research, and got a couple of decent ego batteries and attys (can't remember the name, but it was the cone type and the plastic removable tanks). Got some juice, cola, absinthe and apple iirc, and i was on my way.

Thing is, after only two days i realised that i didn't need my tobacco anymore. It was like i had accidentally given up smoking. One of the things about smoking i loved was blowing out smoke, and vaping not only filled that gap, it surpassed it! I could blow out more 'smoke' with vaping than i ever could with fags! Even more so when i started buying RBAs.

As i got more into it, the trip down the rabbit hole got deeper and deeper. Within a month i was making my own juice, and within two i was coiling my RBAs. Currently, i have a reasonable collection of attys and mods, a large selection of flavourings, and a whole bunch of tools and things to help my builds. My RY4 Asian blend is pretty good (even if i do say so myself..) and i'm even selling small batches to friends.

Got a lot of the info and help from here and from the various reddit subreddits i subscribe to. Still learning every day, and trying different things, but my go to kit is an AGA T3 atop a battered Vamo, usually with my ADV, Asian RY4 in the tank. For work though, i carry an ego twist with a mini protank II with either Bubble Chocolate in, or my own Lemon and Lime sherbert.

I do vape in public, i've vaped almost anywhere you care to mention, but if it's non-smoking i'm very discreet and don't pump huge clouds out that might annoy non-vapers. Usually the only people who even know i am are those who are right next to me.

I do buy clones. I know that pisses some people off, but my view is that there's plenty of room for both authentics and clones in the market. It's the same as anything else, you know that when you buy cheap it's generally not going to be as good quality, but if it means having something that's almost as good for a tenth of a price (of something that i couldn't afford anyway) then i'm going to get it.

Ok, that's my story. If you made it this far... then what the hell is wrong with you? Haven't you got better things to do? ;)

A general thanks to all who have and continue to contribute their knowledge here, you may not know it but you've helped this man a lot in the last twelve months!

Cheers!
Ash.

The story is much the same for a lot of us. Most of us just kept smoking because the times we tried to quit were just nerve racking. We eventually bought another pack and said to heck with it.

Ecigs were the cure. That's why I always answer the first question people ask about my ecig with, "This is what enabled me to stop smoking after almost 40 years of tobacco addition". Of course, they always ask the next question, "Well, why don't you quit that, too?".

The answer starts a long conversation and they walk away understanding what ecigs are all about.

Welcome to ECF, Ash!

Great story!

You obviously have a grasp on the English language but I would expect that from someone from Oxford (that's my attempt at a joke).

I've read other stories from folks who (or is it whom, I never know) accidentally quit smoking. I think it is proof that vaping really does help get people off the tobacco habit.

I'm convinced that that the reason I failed quitting so many times was because I liked inhaling and blowing smoke out. I tried "Cold Turkey" and the patch but nicotine replacement wasn't enough for me. Vaping simulates the process of smoking so well that it satisfies that need.

Edit; I haven't ventured into DIY juice yet but I plan to in the future. I look forward to perusing your recipes.

Thanks all for the warm welcome! You're very kind!

ace077: Sure, i'm no expert yet but i'm someway up the learning curve. Whatever you need some help with just ask and i'll do my best to have an answer for you!

Shopan: Joined CASAA, haven't submitted my story yet, but i'll do that over the weekend. It's a bit US-centric on some things (I'm UK) but still worth keeping up with as all regulation seems to affect other regulation to some degree these days. Anyway, another nose to the grindstone, another hand in the air and all that!

Cheers!
