Okay so in the past week and a half I have built 20 coils. I've tried everything I can from buring the kanthal before and after i shape it to pulse burning before i put the wick in, I've tried using cotton, 2mm braided silica, and cheesecloth. I've followed three different videos on how to build a coil on evods and protank heads and i followed them exactly the same as they did every single time. But it's all been a complete waste of time and effort, and not to mention supplies. I get the same nasty burning taste with each coil i build and test out. I even let them sit for 20 to 30 minutes before i vape them just to make sure the wick is completely saturated and still nothing good. Every single one tastes terrible and i honestly dont know what else i can do to make it work. i mean in the videos they just build it and then vape it and they keep saying its an amazing vape. I don't understand how they can do that when i do the same thing and everytime i cant stand the taste. and no my voltage isnt up too high so that cant be it. Any help anyone? I'm about to go crazy because i dont want to go back to buying the replacement heads because to me its just a waste of money to buy something that i can rebuild myself. :(

what's your set up like? atty? mech? vw? post a pic of your coils.

make sure you wrap the coils pretty firm around the wick. 3mm wick is pretty good once you've looped it 3 times--which is 4 strands thick. if you've got an igo-l go for 28g kathal and wrap it about 3-4 times. you should get around .7 - 1 ohms. if you're getting a burning taste may be your ohms are way too low and and burning your juice. do you have any way to measure your resistance?

I'm using a vamo. So I can check my resistance as well. And my coils are coming out at about 1.9-2.4 ohms but the rebuild I'm doing is on a protank. There isn't near enough room to try folding the wick over

I don't rebuild, so take what I say with a grain of salt,,,,,

BUT,,,,,,,,whenever I replace the head of my EVOD with a new head,,,,,,if I don't rinse it off well and let it dry FIRST,,,,it tastes disgusting,,,,

this may be a stupid question,,,,,,but have you tried rinsing in hot water well, allowing to dry and THEN inserting the head?

When I rebuild my Protank heads I use 32g kanthal wrapped 5 times around a 1/16 drill bit. I put it on my Vamo and check the ohms, typically 1.8-2.0 and then pulse the coils to make sure they are heating from the inside out. I pull it back off and pull a bit of cotton off and roll it in my fingers. When I pull the cotton through the coil I make sure it's not tugging on the coil, if it does I pull a little off and try again. Clip the excess off and drips 3-4 drops of juice, two on the coil and one on each end. I let it sit for about 30 minutes and fill my tank and vape away. I typically use the wick for 2-3 tanks and then just replace it or rebuild. I run it on low volts 3.4-3.6 depending on the juice, the more fruitier juice wants to caramelize with higher volts.

Evod and protank blow. They don't wick worth a dam. Same boat my friend. Gave up on that crap last week. Rba and iclear30 for me for now. Until something else comes out that's not bcc. Smok is coming out with the same garbage kanger is. The aero. Same design as the evod just Pyrex. Can't wait to see how crap that one performs. They need to do away with bcc clearos and focus on something else. They are making too many bcc with the same stupid problems. They don't seem to listen to the consumer.,T2, T3, Evod, Protank all have the exact same issues. Like ... is kanger doing honestly. Keep releasing the same thing In a diff wrapper. Hey kanger it didn't work the first 4 times switch it up bros!

Wow, that's a pretty condemning statement. However, there are a TON of successful BCC users here. EVODs and Protanks have been great for me once I figured them out (took about 2 weeks to get a comfort level). I have recently tried the stardust/ViVi Nova and iClear types to see what I am missing and IMO, they are pretty dismal and high maintenance compared to BCCs. But you know what? To each his/her own. I can't imagine vaping without bottom coils. Course, something more fabulous will come out later - that's the beauty of vaping.

My RBA is a reomizer for a bottomfed mod and its easy to install a coil and works great with a simple cotton wick.

Just because something doesn't work for you, as simple as these setups are, I'm sure your opinion is valued just expressed terribly. I would hate to see what your statement would have looked like if these threads weren't moderated. But that's just, like, my opinion man.

I have to totally disagree with this. I have been rebuilding t3's and evods with cotton ball wicks for about 4 months now and after I got past the learning curve they are preforming wonderful. With all my current builds I can not get a dry hit off them, even if I try. The bottom coil design just wicks so much better in my experience, when I use my vivi nova I spend as much time trying to keep the wicks wet as I do vaping it. Bottom coil clearo's do have there flaws but for me the pro's outweigh the cons by a mile. If all new clearo's were bottom coils that would be a huge plus in my book.

I am starting to wonder if maybe the OP got a bad batch of wire. Is that even possible? With 20+ builds you should have got at least one good build, even if it was pure dumb luck. Maybe the wire has alot of machine oil left on it or even something else spilled on it? With so many different wicking materials its hard to try and say that they are the problem. The only other thing I could think of is that maybe you are leaving the legs of the coils to long in the head maybe laying on the grommet burning it. It does seem unlikely that would happen with so many coils tho. Maybe try washing the kanthal with some dish soap and water first? I would hate to see you give up on rebuilding.

I tell it like it is my friend. Don't surgar coat anything. We are all adults. Can't take my opinion that's fine. I would Advise you to skip over my posts. I don't sit there and judge you for saying the protank rocks do i? Its a forum.... We all say what is on our mind and share opinion. I have tried all your ideas as well as everyone else's, didn't work, and it looks like A LOT of people are having the same issue. Therefore i base my opinon on that. Everyday there is a new "help with protank" "bad taste with protank" thread. I am glad people use them and enjoy it. But when someone has had the same experience as me, guess what? I am going to chime in on how bad my experience was as well. Just like when someone loves these things, you chime in and explain how great they have been for you. So please save it.

Great. Glad you have had a success.

What I find strange and I don't have a dog in this fight btw...is how so many can have complete opposite experience with the exact same device. As one looking from the outside I have to wonder if its the device or the user.
whoknows.gif

Well if so many people are having problems and so many people aren't i equate it to QC.
