Hi folks,
I've been using an e-cig for several months now and I'm working rebuilding kanger evod and protank heads. My current setup is a vamo v2, a couple of ego twists, a kanger protank and a kanger evod. I DIY my own juice.

My question is similar to the one posed in this thread:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...rts-atomizer-but-different-battery-works.html

In fact i am having the exact same problem. I build my coils with 30 AWG A-1 Kanthal. I use my vamo and a multimeter to check the resistance of the coils. Generally i build my coils for the EVOD and Protank inside a protank base so i can put it on the vamo.
All my coils read at 1.8 ohms or above and are stable on firing.

The issue i am having is that they won't fire on a regular 650 mah Ego-T battery. The coils will fire just fine on my vamo or on my ego twist batteries, they vape great, but when i put the head on a regular 650 mah ego-T, which i like to use on the road or just to have in my pocket at work, the battery blinks and then won't fire. Then when i unscrew the head with the new coil on it, the ego battery blinks three times and works perfectly with prebuilt heads.
The new coil, similarly, works fine with my vamo or ego twists.

My question is, does anyone rebuilt coils for the evod or protank and then use them on standard, non twist batteries? If so, what wire do you use that works? I have a hunch nichrome will work, but what gage will i want to build a 3-4 wrap 1.8 ohm coil?
The other thread also seems to imply grade D kanthal would work.

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

I had a similar problem with a Kanger MT3 (not MT3S) and a genuine JoyeTech 650mAh battery. The battery would flash five times and refuse to drive the tank. A knockoff 900mAh battery would fire. I replaced the head/coil and the problem went away.

Just out of curiosity, why are you rebuilding the atomizers on the Kanger-style BCC's?

The atomizers are $2 each, and they're interchangeable between the EVOD and the MT3S. And, you can get a MT3S conversion head at Mt. Baker that makes the MT3 an MT3S.

Even if you don't go with the conversion head, the MT3 heads are about $3.

If you're rebuilding atomizers just for kicks and giggles, I can understand. But with replacement atomizers that cheap, I don't bother. Or, maybe I'm completely missing the point of your question...

Well, i have been using the protank and evod and heard that you can rebuild them. Ultimately i'd like to get into the realm of rebuildables, but don't want to buy a real rebuildable genesis style yet, so i thought i'd try my hand at rebuilding the protank/evod first. I agree with you that replacement heads are cheap and work well, i still use them on the protank and will be purchasing more soon for the evod.
I guess the goal right now is mainly to replace the silica wicks with cotton, which i think tastes better, but i figured it would be good practice to build coils inside the compact chamber of the kanger products. It turns out it is really good practice and i can build a very fine, evenly spaced coil now, but i'd like for them to be usable on my regular ego batts because i like the small form factor.

Thanks for the excellent reply, hopefully we can get someone with experience on this particular setup that can advise me on what kind of wire to buy.
