So I see members with less posts and that have been here longer have turned to Veteran status and can see the vet section. I even paid long ago to be a supporting member and have been a member since last summer.

Am I chopped liver or what?? Is it invite only to become a vet?

Here is the post 'splaining it from Lu

1 year and 75 posts or 6 months and 1000 posts. But what initially happened was....the subforum was opened before all the permissions were set so members who did not qualify were able to post. As a matter of fact, it appears any supporting member was able to post there.

The first thing that happened was the 'unqualifying' posts were deleted. So if your posts were deleted, that is why. The next thing that happened was the permissions had to be changed manually for those that already posted.

I personally was able to change some of them. The first thing I did was allow anyone from 2008 access. Why? Because within 2 months, they are eligible timewise anyway. As far as posts, if they were a bit shy of the 75, I let them in too because really, probably anyone who others knew from 2008 should be allowed in anyway. Some of them who didn't quite meet the year criteria posted there and it was nice to see them again....so I left them.

As far as the 6 months and 1000 posts....there were a bunch who had the 6 months in but there post count was 500-900+. I left them in because as I saw it, most seemed happy to see the vets, and vice versa.

But there were a few who had under 500 that had to go because we had to put the limit somewhere. You can't let some with 200 posts come in, then the ones with 100 wonder why they can't. A line had to be drawn and rather than kick out some members with high post counts (like Angel and Liscab for example), the line was drawn at 500.

But something even more unexpected occurred. Total newb supporting members were getting in...I mean, ones that joined like last month and had like 20 posts. I told SJ about it...he said those had to be manually changed and he was working on it.

The other thing that happened is some suppliers who were not qualified were also let in. I did the same for them as I did for the regular members. All 2008 stayed and for 2009, if they had over 500 posts and 6 months, they stayed.

Keep in mind that SJ set the criteria for the Vets...it was his decision. I know he was working on resetting the permissions so only those eligible could access.....and now, from this thread, I see there is other work to be done for those who should have access and don't.

And I offered to help SJ manually change this stuff but unfortunately, I don't have the permissions to do that so meanwhile, SJ is doing it himself....in the midst of trying to get the new server in place.

I hope this clears it up a bit more.

You're not chopped liver to me, if that counts. =)

There was a time that if the calendar year happen to change while you were a member you would be granted veteran status. IOW, if you had six months in and January 1 rolled around one would become a 'veteran'.

Those rules changed. Now it's a full year but one also has to have 1,000 posts to become a veteran. Basically, in your case, you need to make 400 meaningless posts before July (your date) rolls around.

Edit: Forget what I said, Laurel. I can't keep up with the rule changes. LOL

Lol, thanks for explanations and thanks Richie :D

Nope, can't see me making 400 or 500 useless posts as I just don't post here that much. Was just curious lol!

LOL

I had it wrong, ma'am. At one point it *was* 6 months and 1,000 posts.

So, you'll be a veteran on your anniversary date regardless of the number of posts. But, if you wait a few minutes the rules may change again. LOL!
