Absolute beginner with a handful of questions

Hey guys,

I'm new to this entire scene of electric cigs. I tried the Eclipse cigs when they were around, liked them a lot, and it seems like they worked on the same basic concept as e-cigs do. I've talked to my wife, and I'm really interested in trying them. However, trying to search is rather difficult, as there's so much information, I'm not sure what applies to me.

1. Anyone suggest an inexpensive e-cig to start, or should I just try the 901 I'm being recommended? At roughly $50, even if I only use it a month, I'm saving over the $150 I'm looking at with regular cigarettes.

2. Can you drip with the 901, or any model available at dietsmokes(where I've been referred)? What I've read makes it sound like dripping is the best method for me to monitor what I'm ingesting.

3. How long can I expect a battery and an atomizer to last?

Sorry for the questions- I know this information is here, I just can't find it. If someone is willing to just point me to the answers, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks so much!

batteries last anywhere from 2 hours to 8 hours, before needing recharged, depending on the model you buy. My advice is to get a manual switch PV (personal vaporizer), where you can push a small button and heat the atomizer as much as you want instead of the auto switch PV's. In general, the manuals provide more consistent performance and the batteries do not fail as frequently as the auto switch PV's.

Good Luck.

I'm really new to this too, I looked at the primary device poll and seen that the 901 and 510 are pretty popular. I just bought a 901, I've had it for a few days. I drip on the atomizer, but it is really easy to just refill the carts myself, and that lasts longer. When you drip, it may only last you a cigarettes worth. I don't know much about the other Qs so I'll leave that to the pros :)

Firstly, I recommend buying from Heaven-gifts.com Ruyandirect.com Best E-smoking Shop. All these U.S. suppliers have the same stuff, they just charge double the price or more because they took the time to put some label on it. Wayne at Ruyan offers a 1 year warranty on most all parts, you won't find ANY U.S. suppliers offering that the last time I checked. For the price you would pay for a 901 or 801 kit from a U.S. middleman, and make no mistake, that's all they are, you could get the same kit plus a ton of juice and extra parts from Ruyan. They just cannot be beat. Don't let the U.S. middlemen lie to you by saying "no customs to worry about when you buy from us", there are no documented cases of personal orders of ecigs getting detained by customs. The only orders getting intercepted (if any) are large orders sent to U.S. suppliers, but I haven't seen any reports of that either specifically from Ruyan.

Anyway, ignore all the BS hype you hear here, go straight to the source and enjoy a 1 year warranty and the best customer service you'll ever experience.

Disclaimer: I in no way am affiliated with Ruyandirect.com, just a loyal shopper who will never need to shop anywhere else.

As far as which device. I read these forums for a month before buying and tons of people said that most people end up finally being completely happy with a penstyle, so it's all I've ever used and no complaints here, so I recommend the DSE-801. Best of luck :)

If you're just starting out then I can see why you don't want to spend too much. Beware false economy, however - if you get a bad e-cig and give up on the whole idea that really is wasted money.

I'd get an Intellicig Evo. Very good price for a device that has an 8hr battery life to a charge imho. I wouldn't bother with dripping as such yet - just top up the Evo cartridges.

How long do they last? I got my Evos in November 08 and the only one that died is one that I stood on - and that's REALLY dead! Batteries should last at least two months without problems. If you want to buy in America then you may want to try a Pilot or M401 - they're similar I hear.

For a larger initial outlay I'd look at the Janty Stick. Although the device seems dear at first bear in mind that it takes very cheap batteries and a variety of different 801-type atomisers. This makes ongoing running costs very competitive. Just my tuppence.

1 I'd recommend the 901 as a starter e-cig - simple to use, lots of vendors for spares etc, and reasonably reliable

2 Yes you can drip with a 901 - personally I don't - I just "top-up". You can count the drops ether way if you want to do that

3 Varies - Atomisers can go in a couple of weeks or last a couple of months - Batteries should last two or three months with care but - BUY SPARES

The 901 and the 510 are both good choices. There are advantages and disadvantages to every PV out there. For an experience closest to analogs, I would say 901 or 510, but spare parts and liquid are a necessity not a luxury. From what I understand they are now starting to make manual 901 batteries now they just haven't hit the market yet. The best I have found yet is a 510 with a modified battery pack. If you are the least bit interested in electronics or soldering, it is easy to do and is a lot more reliable and repairable. As for buying one off the shelf, my choice at this point would be a manual switch 510 with a few extra atomizers and batteries, and a PCC. The manual switch makes a WORLD of difference. The liquid is important too. Prefilled carts get expensive right away.

I really wish there were more forums out there that are this helpful this quickly. :)

From the sound of things: I'll be buying the 901 in just a bit, I'll try to find one with an extra atomizer, and if mid-way though the month I'm still liking it, I'll order an extra battery and atomizer. I'll make sure to go to the appropriate sections to find what I need to know about refilling, etc. Thanks again so much!

Cut to the chase and get a screwdriver yes it’s $$$ you will be happy in the long run and save your money by not having to try all the models
Totally Wicked has atomizers for $1.00 more then ordering from China a five pack is $40.00
The batteries will last for a long time about 8 hr. per charge and will last for months on end and if you need more I just ordered 4 with a charger for $13.00 including shipping

The ScrewDriver Online Electronic Cigarette Shop

Just an FYI here. If you recommend the EVO, don't forget to mention that the batteries are sound sensitive. I bought two EVO's a while back, and since I work in a noisy environment, I could not use them. Over time, the batteries just died. They actually were a waste of money for me. I'm using 401's and 4081's now.

Tried to post this before but then the forum went down for maintenance for some reason for a while so I couldn't post it, so anyway, here it is again.

Now that it appears you've decided on an inhaler, may I recommend one more option you may not have considered?

Basically I'd recommend the following... Instead of a starter kit with set parts and cartridges, buy exactly the parts you want from Heaven-gifts.com Ruyandirect.com Best E-smoking Shop and pick and choose what you'll use and leave out anything you won't need. For instance just order 3 atomizers, 3 batteries, 2 usb chargers (always a PC around, not to mention they make usb adapters for cigarette lighters and 120vac outlets), skip the relatively more expensive 120vac charger that comes in kits, then get some empty carts, some fluid you'll know you'll like, and maybe try a couple that you have heard good reviews of.

One more tip that I've learned... If you're a menthol smoker, you can afford to try other types of fluids because if you don't like them, just DIY and add some menthol crystals (doesn't take much) and it'll now taste like menthol rather than whatever the flavor was before that you didn't think was so great. I've done this successfully with both Flue Cured Tobacco and Vanilla.

Basically for around $100, you can be set for a while and only have to worry about reordering fluid and getting any replacement parts for ones that go bad (free replacement for 1 year on most parts from Ruyan). He'll even send you replacement parts out with your next order for free, even before you send the bad part back. He even told me that I could just wait until more parts go bad and send them back together to save time and shipping money. But it's only about $3-4 to ship a couple atty's to China so I'm not sweating it. Wayne's a great guy with great products.

Fair comment, Jim. Does this also apply to the Pilot and M401 or just the Evo?

Please consider the manual switch vs, the auto switch. I was never satisfied with the auto shut off feature. I don't want my pv to tell me when I have had a long enough drag. Just a thought. My PV of choice, 510M yeti from electronicstix.com, Jason is a doll and updates in his supplier thread when his shipments arrive with his tracking numbers. Very transparent and a fair price. I have had the same 2 attys and batteries for 2 months and I am a heavy vaper and I drip. Hope this helps and happy vaping. Welcome to our humble abode:) You can pm me with further questions.

I have both the 510 and a 4075 which I've been told is just like the 901 - The 510 wins hands down on vapor production, thickness of vapor and consistancy. My 4075 give a good hit every once in a while but most of the time it's hit or miss the 510 give the same good hit all the time unless the battery is dying or it's running out of juice

My roommate has a 510 and I use a 901 and I always seem to get better vapor from my 901 than he can with his 510. I don't know maybe its operator error with him. I think either of those models would be great starter pv's as long as you have spare parts. I have four pv's and I still think about getting more everyday, got to love our little hobbies.
