Advice and suggestions for a first time buyer

Hi all! Who knew that there are so many options and customization for e cigs! I am sooo overwhelmed but giddy to get started! Here is my story. I was over my brothers place the other day and he had this new e cig contraption. It looked nothing like the blu or ones that imitate the look of a cigarette (which I can NOT stand!). It had this tank which I believe is called a cartomizer? It sat atop of this skinny tube with a button that you pushed to heat(?) the liquidr. What the heck was that thing!? He had it filled with this tasty liquid, and produced really nice vapor smoke! Well, needless to say I'm hooked! No stink, too!

So basically, how do I go about getting one!? What I liked was the tank. It was like a window modded water cooled computer case that you can see whats going! Seems to hold a lot of "juice" so I do not need to constantly refill which I like. Would be on the go and for home. A smaller size would be nice, but not if it sacrifices too much. And being a beginner I would like it to be pretty easy to use. However, I do like modding and things so that is a direction I would like to go as well.

Any suggestions, tips, and/or advice would be great! I'd like to start saving my body and money asap!

Wild guess #1: Provari and Smok metal clad carto tank.

Indeed, ask your brother what it is he has. Likely NOT Provari, as that's a bit steep for starting out.

I'd suggest something along these lines:

with the 1300 Spinners and maybe an MT3 and an Iclear, so you can try both bottom and top coil units.

Likewise with the juice. If you liked it, ask him what and where.

Juice and nic level are as important to success as power sources and juice holders. Don't like the flavor? You won't vape it. Not enough nic? It won't quell the cravings. Too much nic? You won't be able to vape it much at all!

If you have a B&M close by, best thing to do is drop in and talk to them - after getting details from your brother. Many have "vape bars" where you can sample different flavors. A good way to try a variety.

I've heard a lot of advanced vapors call the e-go twist or the e-go c to be a great jumping off point. The device Disney tale a rocket scientist to figure out ohms law doesn't not havento be under stood.

The battery makes absolutely ZERO difference, doesn't matter if you smoked 1 pack or 3 packs a day. The battery will not make the difference, however you could up the MG of the juice and get more nicotine if that's what you think you'll need.

He probably has an ego style battery with a clearomizer.... which is a great starting point for any new vaper.... if you must go the way of the mod picl yourself up a vamo as it has the most options for a reasonable price...imo the ego is the better starting point as the size of most mods can be daunting and scare alot of new vapers away ( myself included as my forst ecig was a silver bullet and only last a few weeks off the analogs).... good luck and happy vaping!

My suggestion to start with would be a vv (variable voltage) battery set such as and ego twist or vision spinner

in regards to the tank, the most popular tank right now is the Kanger Protank (which has the glass that you mentioned - is safe with any type of juice - some juices will "crack" or break down the plastic shells on the clearomizers) this tank also has replaceable heads (currently on sale at this merchants site for $5.96 for 5 (very good price - most sites are around $2.50 to $2.99 each

for more advanced APV's (advanced personal vaporizer) I would recommend the Vamo VV/VW (stainless steel model) or the provari VV ($$$ but has an incredible following for build quality and is USA made) Either one of these will require you to purchase separate batteries and chargers although several sites do have kits available -

It's a great way to get your feet wet for just $25 bucks, and will make a great back up PV when you decide you want a fancy PV.
With the passthrough eGo type battery, you can vape while it's charging, and the SmokTech Viva Nova works well.

Definatly start off with a Variable voltage battery. Some will suggest the twist or the spinner, both are very good. I have owned the both, If you go with just one I would go with the spinner. Also, buy a back up spinner,maybe in different colors. They come in handy when you least expect it. Try out cartomizer tanks like your brother has, Try an iClear 16 for a top coil tank, try a Kanger Evod for the bottom coil experience. I suggested all smaller tanks so you can get a feel for them. There are better products but at least with these suggestions, they are small and cheap to run, and look better atop your spinner. Try out a local store to see what you like but don't buy anything from them. They are way more expensive than anyplace online.

Hello, Derezzed, and welcome to the ECF boards and to the world of Vaping.

I offer the following suggestions based on my own personal Vaping experience.

An excellent starting point is a variable voltage battery device such as a Joyetech Ego-C Twist or a Vision Spinner. I still use my ego-c twist from time to time. With one in hand, another at the ready, as back up, and a charger, you are set. Beware of knock-offs, as there are many.

Next, you will need a reliable juice delivery device. For someone, whom is starting out, such as yourself, I would recommend a Kanger Protank, which is a clearomizer type delivery device. I used a few for a few weeks. If I were ever to use clearomizers again, the protank is the only one that I would use.

Beyond the above, I highly suggest the following:

If and when you decide that Vaping is a good fit for you, purchase the best high quality vaping gear, which you can afford, period.

I trust that your new Vaping adventure affords you a very positive experience . . . Enjoy.

Welcome to ECF! There are so many different options out there. If you really liked what your brother has, ask him what it is. If you kinda like it but would like something different then you need to ask yourself a few questions. (How much do I want to spend, how big can it be, does it have to look like a cigarette, how much vaping time do I want between charging, do I want variable power choices or something more simple?) It'll definitely help to narrow down the field.

If you can get to a vape store, you might find it helpful to put eyes and hands on what's offered. Good luck!

An eGo Twist or Vision Spinner are certainly good starting points. If you want one like your brother though, you should definitely ask him what his setup is. There are literally hundreds of combinations available!

Hello and welcome! Flat out the best beginner device will be a Vamo. It's an APV mod, very user friendly, variable voltage/wattage, and rock solid. Also you can get it quite cheap if you go to fasttech.com! A few members suggested this to me so lately I have been spamming this to any new member. For sub $60 you can't beat it. Again it's awesome for beginners, very simple to use and if you have any questions about adjusting voltage you can find the info here or just ask. Honestly its very easy, I go by the resistance of the atomizer and then taste. As for an atomizer I went with the ProTank from Kanger which cost me $14.25. You can get it at iVape.net for that price. It hase replaceable heads at $7.99 for a 5 pack and has awesome flavor. If it is too airy then you can Teflon the air holes and poke holes with a pin for a tighter draw .

I started with a ctwist it worked awesome ! My advice is to do it right from the beginning, spend the money needed to be spent because you'll end up saving money in the long run. It's a learning curve, I've learned much from the first day I started vaping lol.

I started with the an ego twist as well. Good starter pack for someone new and real easy to use. It cost me ~ $40 and was well worth it. I started @ 18mg nic and have progressively moved down to 6mg, but it's mainly because I started using RBA's and am pulling in more vapor.

My addiction has moved from analogs to the collection of mods, atties, etc. Can't stop and not sure which addiction is worse. lol

I got a mini ego kit from MtBakerVapor.com when I first got into vaping. That is a more economical selection.

My advice to new vapers is:

A) Skip the analog look-a-likes. The battery life is only adequate for a smoker who only smokes 4-6 analogs a day.

B) Most likely any eGo battery (or the Volcano Inferno) will give nearly a full day of use between charges. And get two: for example, Volcano's Inferno starter kit includes two batteries, so you have one to use while the other charges.

C) If you are a heavy smoker, plan to get a mod like the eVic or Lavatube (or other 12-16 hour use device with variable voltage) in 3-6 months. You will really appreciate the longer battery life and control by then and you will be used to carrying your smaller device by then. I passed my Infernos on to friends/family to help them get started when I got my first VV mod.

D) Cartos are good for trying new flavors. Get blanks. For daily vaping, use a tank.

E) If economy is a important and you really just need the nicotine: flavorless ejuice is cheap and atomizers last a long time with no flavors/sweeteners/etc to gunk up or carbonize the atomizer.

I found that the regular eGo 1100mAh batteries last me a long time. I just got some cheapy CE style clearomizers and have enjoyed those.
You can usually find them pretty cheap. I just found a site call Smokin' Joe (or something like that) that seems to keep pretty good track of some good deals.
From here, I plan on getting some of the eGo twist style batteries, just because people seem to like the variable voltage option.
