I'm fairly new to vaping, and recently upgraded from the Smok Priv V8 (with the TFV8 Baby tank) to the Smok G-Priv 2 Kit (with the TFV8 X-Baby Tank). So far nothing is tasting good in it. I’m on my third flavor and second coil and it’s still just tasting okay. I’m using the VW Mode and staying within the recommended wattages on the coils ( M2 coil, .25ohm, 30-50w). I did try TC mode with SS and it tasted a little better but I don’t know if that is too high of a temperature (60w/205C)?

I know there’s not many fans of Smok out there. Is it maybe just a bad tank? If so, what tanks will work with this mod? Wrong liquids? I have tried 60/40 and 70/30. User error? I’ve got a lot of learning to do yet but any help offered in the meantime would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, you can't use any Smok coils in temp control mode as none are made for temp control. The airflow on the x baby is different than the regular baby. This can alter the vape produced and you might not like it. If the regular baby worked well for you, why not continue to use that? If neither work well, it may be time to look elsewhere.

While I know Smok has mixed success, I do use a big baby on occasion, and with the Q2 0.4 ohm coil, get pretty decent flavor from it.

As for user error, priming the coil well and working your way up to a wattage that produces the vape you want is all you really need to concentrate on. The VG ratios you list are fine for that tank.

Go big. Tfv12 king or prince. I get big flavor from my king. And big clouds for sure. Just prime it well, and start at the lowest wattage printed on the side of the coil, to "break it in" and not toast the cotton on the first hit. Which ive done by forgetting to lower the wattage when i change coils. But now if you want to experiment with other brands of tanks, and i use other brands on my t priv with no problems, let me tell you about this really nice rta from wotofo. The bravo. If youre ready to build yer own, this rta gives awesome excellent flavor. I like it so much, im going to get another one soon. I like it so much, that my tfv12 is sittin here lookin at me, wondering if im mad at it.

I'd agree it just may not be the tank (at least with that coil in it) for you. Some tanks/juices just don't play together well. You could try some different juices, it may not be the PG/VG ratio so much as the fact that certain flavors seem to "shine more" at different wattages.

Nothing earthshattering, I'm sure, and I am supposing you want to use that tank, but as a non-sub0hmer I can really only speak in generalities, and some smok setups do seem a bit hit or miss for flavor, while others seem to do better as flavor performers. I hope you find a solution that works for you :)

I use the smok baby as well as the big baby when I'm out and about. I've used it on several different mods and they have performed well in all configurations. I do have some minor problems with the baby as it will leak and need to be careful about coil quality but overall they're pretty good however I do use them in the VW mode only. Maybe you could develop the flavors you desire by adjusting the wattage you're using manually?

That’s what’s so strange. I’m using the same flavors I used in The TFV8 Baby tank as I am now in the X-Baby tank and they taste completely different. I don’t get it.

What kind of setups do you use? I was interested in trying the non-subohm type but don’t know where to start. Also I keep seeing these nic salt vape pods. Any experience with those?

Different coil designs, different airflow on the tanks, different tank designs, as well as different bore drip tips (wide vs narrow bore) can cause some flavors to shine, while others to taste like crap.

I'm using an original Uwell Crown tank with a JAC Vapour series B DNA75W mod. I use the 0.5 ohm coil because it was designed for vaping between 30 - 80 watts. The tank has three other coil resistances available, including a non-sub-ohm 1.25 ohm coil (10 - 30 watts). Review is in this thread: Tanks & RDA's Ratings & Explanations

No experience with vape pods or nic salts.

Well, I have noticed in my vaping travels.... More capacity is often good. However, the bigger tanks don't vape identically to the smaller tanks, and I've often found if I've bought a tank in different capacity sizes, sometimes the smaller flavor really shines.

I might try some new-to-you juices potentially. If you are using all the same flavors at the same settings, you are still dealing with a bigger, sort of setup differently, in even small ways, tank. You could try playing around with wattages, sometimes a small change can make a big difference. I would experiment with airflow as well.

But, what you are reporting isn't unusual, at all. Sometimes with increased capacity (not always but sometimes) the draw can be different, the airflow may need to be different, and it just vapes differently.

I own neither tank, but you could try switching out the driptips too (if they're at all different). Sometimes it can be surprising what a different drip tip can do.... I've "changed" the ways tank vape using those three things, and as a MTL vaper, I am proud to report that (with a lot of effort) I was able to vape a fixed wattage 30 wattage setup with a coil that I had no business vaping (it was a win, but one I actually really enjoyed "getting to know") and if it taught me nothing else, it taught me that you can do a lot with airflow, driptip and wattage (if you have it accessible to change) can make huge differences.

I'm still vaping that AIO setup from time to time.

Best of luck!

On this bravo rta of mine, i just now tightened up the airflow a bit and the result was more flavor. Ive got a dual coil at .15 ohm and 65w. It was tasting weak with more open airflow so i tightened up a bit and hit that flavor spot i like. So i agree for fact that airflow is as important for flavor as any coil set up one might have.

Oh, I'm sorry, I missed the second part of your question. I use nic salts exclusively ATM (I DIY though). I mainly use them for the lack of throat hit (can use higher amounts without harshness) as my throat was torn up when I got here. There are some reports they are bioavailable faster, can't say I've noticed a huge difference there, but I DIY like I did freebase nic, at 18 mg/ml.

You can use nic salts in any device at the correct percentage for your device, but they tend to have more "use" in high mg solutions, as you can go higher without harshness. I think the Juul tops them all with a "proprietary" 50 mg/ml nic salt pod (but you have to keep in mind the puniness of the delivery system, I mean, the Juul is weak. Although if I had to only vape a cigalike, it might just be the Juul.

If you are interested in exploring more mouth to lung setups, there are some decent options (and since it's all 510 connections, for the most part, you don't need a new mod, you can just run a tan on your more powerful mod at lower wattages and get great battery life.

MTL tanks: Um, the Nautilus 2 is well known and well liked for the most part. This was my quitting tank (fair disclosure, I no longer use it, I've moved on to MTL tanks and setups that are better in terms of capacity and flavor, although the nautilus COIL can be accepted by many tanks and I still use some of those tanks (mainly the Kabuki. It's pricy. I used to recommend clones from Fasttech, to sort of "try out" the tank, and get used to its foibles. I kind of no longer do, as I don't consider the flavor remotely comparable, although it's a bit of a finicky tank for such a high price tag, it's bottom fill and fairly "easy" bottom fill, once it's broken in. It's a great tank though, I own two of them (and they aren't cheap) but probably the best flavor you'll get out of a nautilus coil.

The Ijoy elf is kind of ignored a lot, it does come with proprietary coils and it will also "accept" nautilus coils and pretty much fixes all the N2 "problems" true 2 ml capacity instead of 1.7 if using the fill line, easier to fill, a much easier top fill, and there's a metal cage but it doesn't heat up as fast, etc.

The Ego Mega One V2 tanks are great, some of my favorite tanks. You can get 4 ml capacity although it's bottom fill it's not a "terribly hard" bottom fill. The Tron-S is similar in capacity (ugly as sin in my opinion though I own a couple). The magic in these tanks is in the coil, the Joytech CLR coil comes in 10 resistance and 0.5, you might well enjoy the 0.5 coming from sub0hm although I LOVE the 1.0 resistance. Great flavor and the coil can be rewicked or even rebuilt pretty easily. So, those might be an option, I want to say the 0.5 is a TC coil only, but I could be wrong on that, but I'd check to make sure because for some reason I am thinking it's titanium, I could be wrong though .I'd check.

Okay, hopefully some of the above was useful. Best of luck,

Anna

I agree 100 percent. I do not have iJoy Elf but I am very tempted to buy it because I like Nautilus2 coils and it would be great to have tank that accept both (iJoy & Aspire bvc) coils. Ego One I have (I have mini version) is good but flavor is a little weaker than Nautilus 2 bvc 0.7ohm coil... I think when I will rebuild it with rayon wick it will be better... thank you Anna for recommending it -I love it...( lifetime of excellent wicking material for $14:)) . Recently the best flavor I am getting from my Siren2 RTA but it is of course hard to recommend RTA to newbe vaper... although I am newbe myself (I started vaping less than 4 months ago) and being 60 years old learned to use RTA pretty fast.

My advice is buy iJoy Elf or Nautilus2... it is not huge expense (for $20-$30 you will get tank plus two different coils) If you will not like it you can sell tank on ebay... or.......... I will gladly give you my Smok Baby Beast tank with 9 unused M2 0.25ohm smok coils (my local vape shop charge $21 for 5 of them) and you will send me empty tank be it Nautilus2 or iJoy Elf. :rickroll:

Innokin Zenith comes to mind for MTL. Top fill and great coil life. I agree with Anna about the flavor differences noted between same model but different capacity tanks. Original nautilus mini has far better flavor than its full size version.

You might consider visiting a local B&M vape shop, you may really need some hands on/one on one guidance. Your issues are too numerous for me to comment on.
