Right now, my BF Right now, my BF does not buy any smokes - he's "quit". However, when he visits smoking friends, they bum him enough to restart a nice couple days of nic'ing $%#$%iness. "Social smoker" is just... so not a good idea. Quitting, yay, I'd support him... quitting forever and ever and ever .... err... The end result is him smoking about 2-3 packs a month in bursts, with stomach & other problems while on them, sliding into mood issues, sliding back into normal... then going out with smoker friends to restart it.

We were looking into e-cigs as a possible temptation replacement while he is out with smokers... probably low nic at first? Maybe eventually no-nic? I'd guess he's far more addicted to the habit - especially around others - than the nic itself if he keeps crashing on and off it?

However, he is almost anti-tech, or well, anything requiring assembly. I can help him set one up, do the occasional tweak/maintenance... but I don't smoke, and so much of this doesn't mean much to me. He says get him something he can have "vanilla or mint or something" with. He's likely to toss it in a pocket and have it sit neglected on a shelf on weekdays - though his glasses do manage to survive.

So, looking for something not outrageously expensive (not saving on cigs, just on stress), that he can basically just work, easily, and that I could set up and probably refill for him, and how much of what we'd need for him to be able to say... stuff enough parts in a cargo pocket for a weekend of accompanying smokers on their breaks, hopefully leaving it as no harder than bumming cigs, and perhaps tasting better (and smelling better and leaving him without constant stomach issues)?

I really just keep getting lost in most of the recommendation threads. It's hard for me to guess how much he'd need, how long the parts last, and such. Since I wouldn't be using it, it would be hard to fiddle with a lot of mods or a dozen brands or know what to adjust to make it better, but he really just wants to be handed one and not deal with it.

I think a standard Joye 510 kit would be perfect for him. You can find plenty of different flavors and nicotine strengths to fill i up as well.

Try https://www.cignot.com/product_p/kit-510-nbx.htm for the kit, and head to FreedomSmokeUSA for the refill juice!

The learning curve is slight, but doable. I seriously applaud you for doing this for your loved one!!

I would also recommend you check out my blog (link is in my signature) it will help you figure out a few of the basics!

Hm... the 510 was one I keep seeing mentioned and I think that's cheaper than the starter kits I'd seen. Is that + some juice a reasonable bit to start with? I think the amounts are as hard to guess as the types.

Thank you I will look through your blog tomorrow morning.

Oh, and don't think it's all that altruistic. If I don't do it, *I* get to hear the growls when there's nobody sharing with him. He's probably not so bad as he could be, but obviously it will not stop the way he's going about it, and I'm not sure eternal withdrawal is better than the cigs... he has all the mood effects of quitting and none of the health benefits. Him doing it himself? Well, I think shopping is up there with the chores far, far past trash duty and dishes and even litter boxes....

I'd suggest using cartomizers either on a 510 or a KR808. It doesn't sound like he needs exceptional battery life so a big battery like an eGo would probably not be necessary. Cartomizers hold lots more juice so less fiddling with it. Standard cartridges need to be refilled quite often while a cartomizer will go for a couple of hours of moderate vaping. The KR808 has a little bit larger battery so it will go longer between charges than the 510. Try Vapor4life to check out the KR808. They have lots of prefilled cartomizers. If you're trying to get by less expenive try Litecigusa KR808d-1. They also have 510's so you can check them out too. Either way look at the bottles of juice and if you order an e-cig buy several flavors and a couple of lower nic levels for him to try out.

The 510 is a great unit, the big weakness is battery life... so if he doesn't want to fiddle with things this might be a problem... There are others like the KR808d-1 that have larger batteries while still remaining similar in size to a cig or 100 ml cig...and then there are even larger Like Riva 510 that will normally last all day on a battery all can be had for about the same price, so it depends on what you want..and what he is willing to do... I will include a link for the Riva... the links above should have the KR808..

I would suggest a 1000mAh Ego kit with LR 510 Atty's to start him off with, a drip tip or two and maybe some 510 cartos Reg or LR, this set up would most likely fulfill his vapor needs to start out with and it's a inexpensive purchase for the most part compared to $6-$7 dollar a pack smokes for sure.

Be wary of a bunch of people say buy from Joe, Joe is cool, that's not what will get you the best deal. Figure out the unit you want then search out ECF suppliers for a good deal and look around for the master coupon list which will get you an extra discount, most suppliers have a coupon code. Just to list a few reputable suppliers I will do so below. Also you can go to the (forum) section up top on the ECF website, click on it and page down, there will be a list of approved ECF suppliers, I would stick with these suppliers for your purchases to start out and for the most part of buying anything. Lastly just do your homework like you where if you where buying a car or anything else, this will provide you with the best answers to your questions. You also may want to look at the join date of the people offering advice, if someone has only been a ECF member for a month or two and telling you this is the best or buy from here I would steer clear and look to the longer ECF members for some good advice, just my 2c on this:2cool:

If he needs to carry a weekend's worth of stuff I guess I can only recommend a fat battery unit w/ a spare battery and a PCC - like like Ego with xl batteries and am Ego PCC. Gonna be bulky. There is no AC power on this weekend?

Normal slim ecigs batteries only last 1.5-3 hours for short ones like 510 (180mah) or 3-5 hours for a 280mah battery (510 mega or KR808D-1 standard). And a standard slim ecig PCC is only going to do 3-4 recharges without recharging the case. For a standard 510 a more powerful charging case like this might last all day for a light vaper - not all weekend
Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette Facts | Nicotine Facts

And whatever you get, get something with cartomizers available (or also tank in the case of Ego) else you are going to be topping off his cart very often. Cartomizers can hold more juce and be vaped longer between affing juice. However, after 4-7 days you may need to switch to a new one. Always add juice to a cartomizer before it goes dry to avoid singeing the stuffing and ruining it.

The larger issue is that your BF has to be motivated to actually do this. There is a learning curve, and it does involve recharging batteries and fiddling with liquids and carts/cartos or dripping. And it does involve some experimentation to identify a setup (batts&attys|cartos&liquids) that's personally satisfying. If you're into it... all that learning and experimentation is fun... like a hobby. But if you're not into it... idk.

For many people the slim batteries don't last long enough between recharges and recharging or carrying multple batts becomes a tiresome hassle. I think that's the largest reason the eGo/Riva bigger batt models are so popular. But they also provide enough power to drive low-resistance atomizers/cartomizers. Many people aren't satisfied with the performance of the std-resistance gear... they seek more warmer vapor with shorter hits... more like the experience of smoking. If you get a bigger batt model, you can also get some of the lower-resistance attys/cartos if the std stuff doesn't cut it.

Another alternative you can consider is snus. Definitely easier to deal with, but equally as addictive as smoking. Nic-only ecigs are milder in their addictive'nes than full on tobacco products like cigarettes and snus. Health wise, its better than smoking. There's a subforum dedicated to smokeless tobacco...
