I'm pluggin' away; trying to learn what I must, to be a happy vaper. Of course, I've got a question or two.

I have four 808 manual 280mAh and one 510 manual cig-a-like batts, from starter kits. Picked up an eGo, and have another on the way. So 510 is the way I want to go, as far as cartos, atomizers, and the like. Just got first 2 clearos the other day. Leaky, but good until larger stuff comes.

Questions:

1. For hanging with the Pub smokers, small batts are more stealthy. But I don't want to be stuck buying both Beta and VHS... er, I mean 808 and 510. Is it worth picking up a few adapters? Where is the best place, Madvapes?

2. Taking care to fill clearo, wipe battery, but still get occasional juice in/on battery. How long before I fry the battery? Is it relatively safe if I wipe it down; and how often?

3. What kind of failure rate should I expect out of Boge/Kanger cartos? I've had 5-10% DOA, and a few that burned out after just a fill or two, even though I took care to fill 'em up slowly and with just enough juice (oh, do I hate to waste the good stuff).

Concerned 'cause now that my juice is rolling in, I want to have enough hardware to sample all my wares. On that front, 10 shiny new atomizers are enroute.

Thanks for any help I can get from you veteran vapers out there.

Around the time I started vaping and coming here there was the so-called "Bogegate", but AFAIK this has settled, and I've had very good luck with the Boges... It isn't as stealthy, but if you use a carto tank I think they have a longer life if for no other reason than the tank feeds the carto and you don't fry them by drawing on them after they run out of juice.

There's a LOT more good stuff available for 510 than for 808 threads. I know gotvapes has adapters for $3.99 or something... I dunno about the battery life of Egos et al, but I wipe my mods with a soft cloth and sometimes do an alcohol swab with Q-Tips, and definitely do a quick wipe if I'm leaking juice.

Happy vaping!

You mentioned clearos (Leaky), that would go right in my junk pile.. Or try to get a replacement from the vendor if they came that way. They should not leak

1. Not sure what size your Ego battery is, but amongst my collection I have 4 650's that when I use a 510 threaded carto is just as palmable/ stealthy as my 808's, plus they dont have the glowing tip when I draw. I have been a steady 808 user since I started but I am just about to the point where I may be letting go because they just dont hold the charge and give me as satisfying a vape as they once did. I was thinking about an adapter, but I held the line... Sure would be nice to have an adapter though. Why not?

2. Wiping battery. How long to fry.?.. I do believe the ego is sealed so unless the juice gets in by the switch, battery is ok but you will have PG stained fingers in place of your formerly nicotine stained fingers. My Ego's are like a Timex... ya know the saying? Take a Licking and keep on Ticking.... I guess it depends on how much you use and abuse, accidently fire in your pocket, drop in toilet when it slips out of your slippery pg stained fingers.. Drop in the parking lot, put through the laundry. I have seen some posts about not keeping it on the charger longer than needed. You should wipe early and often.. but as far as being safe? are you worried about the liquid? As long as your not using over 36mg nicotine in your juice, the pg and vg are common ingredients in skin moisturizers... Flavorings on the other hand might burn. I wouldnt want to rub my eyes after wiping up some Atomic fusion particle accelerated red hot cinnamon. It certainly is wise to keep it clean and wiped down as needed. Speaking of safety and liquid, since you mentioned you have some clearomizers, hopefully you have seen the list of flavors that crack/ melt polycarbonate tanks? If not do a search. I cant use my favorite cinnamon in a clearo.

3. Failure rate on cartos. I have never had a DOA. Sounds like you are taking care to fill them. I kind of slow start them... 6 drops all the way around, stand up and wait, 6 drops stand up and wait, (wipe) fire off a couple of puffs, guage flavor usually add 6-12 more drops.. test fire, taste, wait or vape depending.. Sometimes it depends on the juice..

Sounds like you are building up quite the arsenal. Take some time to enjoy it.

Best of Luck!

Only clearos that I bought were from Smokeless Image (808 threaded) early last summer. They were ok, inconsistant on longivity. I would get 2-4 weeks' use on them. I stopped using them when I put some strawberry lemonade in one and within 5 minutes it had completely melted in my hands. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-crack-tanks-ce2s-clearos-33.html#post8158663

I use primarily pyrex glass cartotanks now. I use 510 Ikenvape Platinums and Smoktek single coils prior to that. Because they're being used in tanks, they'll be lasting longer than what yours will used solo. I've probably only had less than 5% DOA rate on cartos.

Although I don't drip, the atty's you have on the way are a good way to test out new flavors before devoting a carto to them. The aforementioned Nano is a wise choice for this too. They are re-usable, and easy pop-the-top off to fill. Smokeless Image has them in an 808 thread.

You mentioned stealth vaping at the bar? You can pick up a really nice, stealthy 510-thread mod for just $16 called the Smoktech Gripper. A XL (45mm) cartomizer fits inside the mod, only the drip tip protrudes from the mod.
