There are a lot of posts here from those just entering the vaping world regarding affordability. Many, like myself before I started, are afraid of spending a lot for the initial purchase for something they are afraid they may not like. To those who may be lurking, I have a recommendation that'll only cost you $15 for something that is low fuss and offers variable volts so you can adjust for a good throat hit. Something I absolutely needed to get off analogues. You can get a $15, variable volt, passthrough express kit that includes a bottom coil, Evod type generic tank from ivape.net. It is a 650 mAh battery, which can get me through a whole day without a charge and I was a pack a day smoker. Of course, your mileage may vary depending on your habits, but I think this kit is a great introduction kit considering the popularity of variable volt devices and passthroughs. The tank takes Evod coils, which are easy to maintain and simple to switch flavors with. This isn't meant to be an ad for ivape or anything. In fact, numerous other vendors keep better stock and better prices then they do, but for a decent, just starting, want to be able to personalize your vaping experience without spending for a spinner or real ego brand variable volt battery, I have not seen another kit like this at this price.
There are some drawbacks of course. My major gripe is that it isn't as easy to change the volts as a spinner. You do not twist the bottom, you press's the fire button five times to change it. That same button also turns the battery on and off. That means if you are vaping on the first, lowest, setting, you need to press that button 15 times to turn it off before you can stick it in your pocket. It can be a pain, but just having the ability to change those volts was a major plus. I dialed it all the way up in the beginning to get that throat hit I needed to get off cigarettes. Later, I dialed it down to enjoy my flavors. The kit only comes with one battery, and it's recommended that someone start with two for back up, but I have been using just this one for close to three weeks now and haven't needed a second. The passthrough feature helps with this, as I can vape while it's charging. If I hadn't been able to do that, I'm pretty sure I'd have been bumming cigarettes from people while it was charging.
All in all, for someone who doesn't want to drop a lot of money in the beginning, yet wants something that would likely be satisfying, I think it's great. You can decide from there if you want to invest more money in more advanced variable volt devices like I am, or if you just want to buy a standard ego battery kit, or if you would just buy a second one of these express kits for a back up. Although the clearo is a generic, cheap, 2ml one, it takes Evod coils and mine has lasted three weeks with minimal maintenance. There are plenty of YouTube videos that show how to clean Evod tanks, coils, and do a burn out when you are changing flavors. It was great to learn on, and since cigarettes can be $14 per pack here in NYC, that $15 kit was a no brainer to me. I hope this helps someone as it helped me!
