After 6 months of vaping...a question on filling & batteries

Been using my Riva 510 for 6 months now. Getting along well with it but lately it's been less satisfying than I remember. I've been using VG juice, mostly unflavoured, but sometimes apple, pear, or menthol.

1. I've been through three atomisers. They tend to get liquid in them and not work as well as they used to. If I pick one up, and blow through the end that the cartridge goes into, liquid comes out of the battery end and the holes at the side (by the thread). The thing is, I can keep blowing and blowing, and it seems to never stop. Is this normal? It's usually a very watery liquid, dark brown in colour. Is this what's affecting my vape?

2. My other question is: is it the battery that's affecting it? I have two batteries which I use on rotation, and when my vapes get weaker I put it on charge and switch for the other one. I know this probably doesn't do the battery life any favours, but one of the batteries is really weak even on a full charge. Is this normal too?

3. I also just got a new atomiser. It's a £2.99 one from Liberty Flights UK. These are what I started with. Now, straight out of the packet, I blew into it like I do the other ones and liquid came out. It's supposed to be brand new. Do they test them in the factory or something? I'm a little worried that what seeped out on my fingers was someone's saliva...

4. Finally, what is everyone's preferred method of filling cartridges? I usually just drip 1-2 drops on top of the filling material and wait a few minutes for it to seep down. It doesn't last very long. I also have a syringe which I use but it seems to make no difference, even when I poke the syringe far down into the cartridge. Is it worth switching to tanks? Can you even get them for Riva 510s?

It's been a fun 6 months, but do I need to bite the bullet and buy some new batteries? Thanks!

I am guessing that some of these answers are the same as for my ego t, so I will try to help...

1. Yes, this will affect your vape. That is the leftover juice that builds up. I blow out my attys at least once a day. More with heavy use.

2. I don't think it is the batteries. I think it is #1.

3. The attys come with some primer fluid, because it is bad for them to be dry. Blow that out before use, because I hear it is nasty tasting.

4. No help here, sorry. :)

Thanks for your help!

I've just filled up some brand new cartridges and put them in my atomiser with a full battery. At first I got some decent puffs but not much vapour. I went away for 10 minutes after leaving it standing up and now it's much better. Is there a certain amount of time you should wait after you put the cartridge in or should it be good to go?

I bought some cartomisers but was not impressed with them. They had an awful burnt rubber taste and hardly gave any vapour. Also the atomiser part of it just broke completely after about 10 puffs. Was I doing something wrong?

I also see you are from Farmington. Is that Gloucestershire England Farmington?

I would try Cartos again. From your description you may not have gotten it wet enough before firing it up the first time. This ruins the carto, no way to get that nasty burnt rubber taste out of them. If you use the condom method (Fill the rubber sleeve that carto comes with up with juice and then insert the carto back in about twice) and wait about 15 mins you will never destroy one again. Honestly after you go to cartos dripping will be reserved for trying juices that you are unsure of.

Thanks - I'll give that a go. I always thought the condom method needed an actual condom and I haven't bought any of those in years! I will let you know how it goes. Does it work with both PG and VG juice? I have some VG that I need to use up.

LOL- I thought I needed a condom too so I avoided the method initially. The "condom" is the aptly named rubber sleeve on the bottom of a new carto.

Works GREAT with mostly VG juices but you do need to let it soak in a bit longer than you would with PG mixes. I heard a technique on here that works wonders with using the condom fill with VG/thick juice. You fill the carto with two condoms of fluid and then, with the condom still attached, suck on the top. This forces all the fluid into the fibers so you only need to let it soak for 5 mins before its good to go. After the inital fill you can use the condom method or just drop a few drips in the top. After the first fill up cartos readily suck up juice.

Vg is a little harder the 1st file but it works. Just push the carto into the condom slow and make sure the filler is soaking the juice up. I found it helps to add a few drops on top 1st before filling fromng the battery end with the condom with thick juices. Dont forget to remove the mouth piece. Then after maybe about 5 drop on top fill the condom about 1/2 and slowly push the battery end into the condom. You will probably need to do that 2 times for a new carto. Fill until the top looks slushy. and let sit for a few min while you clean up and put stuff away. Some say 15-25 min but I've never waited more than 10 min. Good luck

Def try cartomizers. They are a LOT better. You got a burnt taste bc they werent filed enough. They have to be filled properly. I use a syringe to fill all my cartos and have never gotten a burnt taste once. They hold alot more juice and are alot more consistant. Do you have an older Riva or a newer one? The newer ones are 3.7V instead of the older 3.4V Rivas.
Try the Boge 2.0ohm cartos or if you want something that holds more juice try the Ressurector cartos from CCV. They are awesome and give an incredible vape. They are 1.7ohm and hold over 2ml of juice so they last a long time before needing a refill

Riva and eGo batteries are only rated for about 150 - 200 recharges. So your batteries will not last nearly as long.

One of the advantages to models the same size as the Riva but that use non-proprietary batteries, such as the E-Power 510, is that the batteries have a recharge life of about 1000, much higher than the Riva/ego. Plus they are 1000+ mAh batteries and they only cost around $4 to replace instead of the $15+ for the Riva/eGo batteries.

It worked! Vapes beautifully. How long will this last if I used one capful? And how many times can I reuse it? It's a Liberty Flights own brand by the way.

Great!

I would check it after an hour of pretty consistent vaping or if it starts to feel "dry". If the top is not slushy drip a couple drops in.

Try to get more juice in there, like two capfuls worth if you can. I get a couple of hours out of a full carto, but then I'm not 100% on that since I switch flavors a lot.

Cartos are supposedly disposable, but people get up to a few weeks out of them as long as you don't let them dry out (put the condoms back on each end when you're not using it).

You can also put the carto in a sock or a baggie, battery side down, and spin it a few times. It forces the liquid down into the filler towards the atomizer. Then you can put more juice in, spin again, and top off.

I use a little usb drive case that came with a laptop bag. It ensures that the battery side stays down.
