I recently started doing my own. My advice so far is take notes, and try single flavors before starting to mix them.

That's what I was planning on doing to start out with and only doing 3ml at a time. Then I'll take the flavors/recipes I like and make up some 30ml bottles. I don't want a ton of juice sitting around that I don't like but at the same time if I do end up with something I don't like, the loss hurts the pocketbook a lot less than ordering premixed. Besides, having the flavoring and being able to dilute mixes, I should be able to turn something that I consider horrid into something at least vapable.

I would advise beginning making small batches . Just document your percentages in each batch so that you know where and what needs to be modified as you need to do so.
I have been using this calculator for about a year e-Liquid Calculator and found it very easy to get used to and non threatening to modify your recipes when the need arises. Good Luck. Happy vaping.

Good Luck! Someday, I may do this myself! I started in March and since then, I have been busy trying different flavors. I am starting to get more of a feel for what I like and don't like. There are SO many to try! I figure that once I have narrowed down my tastes a bit, I may try to diy. However, my tastes keep changing as time goes by. I try a new juice and that one becomes my fave until the next one comes along, lol!

Two great things about ECF are that 1) a lot of people post delicious recipes! and 2) there is a pay it forward thread so that you can swap juices if you have some that you don't like. That is a really inexpensive way to be able to try different juices. They do have a DIY PIF, so you can also trade flavorings! Oh, and did I mention all the contests that are always going on where you can even win free juice? Of course, this will definitely get you hooked on a certain juice and keep you coming back for more, lol!

One thing I have learned is to try mixing a few different flavours and then letting them steep for at least a week before deciding if the flavour needs adjustment. The difference can be so much that a few I had thought were total write offs turned out to be my favourites.
The thing I am having the hardest time with is determining what percentage flavouring to use vs base mix. With some of the Lorann or Capella stuff, I am using as little as 3% flavours to 97% pg/vg/nic. Some, as much as 20%.
Good records and labelling bottles are very important.
Oh, and try tasting your experiments on the same equipment you intend to vape it on.

yeah i plan on doing, diy, soon too..I recent got 2 sample packs ejuice from 2 different vendors, totaling $40...then did some research that i could have gotten diy nic,pg,and vg plus a few loranne liquids, plus a few empty bottles and etc.. for about the same price..I well be doing diy soon, but since i just bought $40 in juices, will use it first before spending on getting my diy setup together, well, atlittle before hand, i dont want to run out of juice ;)

took the plunge last night and ordered mixing liquids and some flavours for the first time dont know where to start with mixing the flavourings though.

many people use a ejuice cacluator I did some research on different ones, and im going to use called Ejuice me up eJuice Me Up - Best eJuice Calculator
ejuice.jpg
found a how to use: eJuice Me Up
Interpreting the PG and VG % boxes and where to put what.

The first line is for the unflavored Nicotine eLiquid. It can be purchased with a number of PG/VG based percentages and strengths. Three boxes are provided for that info.
If you use Nicotine already at your desired strength and do not want to cut it, enter the strength in the Nic Strength box and 0 in the Target box.
If you are mixing Zero Nic and flavors only, enter 0 in both the Nic Strength and Target Nic box.

The second line has a box for what Nicotine strength you would like your final result to be after adding all of your ingredients.

The third line (Amount to Make) is self explanatory.

The forth line (Water/Vodka/PGA) is also self explanatory. I rarely use this. PGA is Pure Grain Alcohol

The fifth through the ninth line is for the flavoring you are adding. I rarely use more than 20% flavoring, mostly 12 to 20% and that depends on the potency of the flavoring. If you're using more than 1 flavor, they should all add up to the percentage I mentioned. NOT 20% each but say 10% + 10% for two flavors.
NOTE: PG% and the VG%: most flavoring is PG based. In that case you would put 100% in the PG box. What you put in the PG or VG box is deducted from the amount of PG/VG you add which cuts the Nic down to the Target Strength.
There are only a couple of companies who do not use PG or VG so you can check the Flavor Zero PG/VG box on the Flavoring row.

Further down there is the "Resulting Recipe".
The PG% and VG% boxes are to change the final eJuice PG/VG out come. In other words, what you want your eJuice to be.
If you receive a warning pop up to add VG or PG that is because the calculator came up with a negative number. Adjustments will have to be made. Say you have a negative for PG, you will then make the PG% higher until it shows 0.

Up on the Menu, "File", "Save As Default", you can now Save your settings as a default which will load your settings when the program first opens. You can create several default files by naming them what ever you like. Note: on start up, the Default.dft file will be called first.
The button at the bottom which use to be "Rest" is now called "Get Default" will open a Dialog box to select a Default file that you saved.

the rest you can find out more, when you download it, select website link at top and choose How to( this is where i copied and paste most of the how to, but there is more to How to..

I'm going to wing it with the flavoring and try 5% by volume to start with and see how that turns out. I'm not much for following directions and like to blaze my own path...lol! It shouldn't be to hard to dilute down the flavoring or add from that point.

Im more of, I cant do it without directions, lol. I plan on using it, and changing the % in each juice as well, to 5%. or 1-2% for lorannes super concentrate and add more as needed. i need some direction to get 70/30, if i dont, might end up getting a different ratio
