Throat Hit is depicted by a number of things, which are resistance of coil against voltage supplied or amperage you're your device at, nicotine strength in the e-liquid solution that you're vaping, also the pg/vg ratio of the e-liquid and flavor or flavoring of the e-liquid. So depending on how you want to go about it, either one will have to give in to meet your vaping needs, it's just one of the things you have to experiment with along the way, nobody can tell you what's best for you but yourself.

It's best to do your hot spots before letting your wick get damp, the reason you're getting your top coil glowing first is because that's the last place the e-liquid will hit and if you're firing it up already it's vaporizing all the liquid before it reaches the top coil, so that coil is always going to light up first, my suggestion is to remove your liquid, give it a dry burn then rectify your hot spots from there on out.

lol np, you have to also remember that different liquid carriers also depicts how the flavor will turn out aside from the variation of amperage, poly-filler / silica wick / steel mesh will all produce different flavors, I personally still like silica wick though I do enjoy my steel mesh setup from time to time.
