For all the people hit by the credit/debit card scam who are concerned about buying juice online: I was hit in December on the $9.84 scam discussed in various places on this site (including this thread), on a major credit card. It is the same people.....they are just now varying the amounts to a little below $10 or a little above rather than that repeated $9.84. The problem is not with vendors or the banks/credit unions; it lies with the credit card processing companies getting hacked.
Just a suggestion - if you have online banking or real-time phone transfer capability, and have the right circumstances, here is what I am doing. I opened up a second checking account (free) with a separate debit card (only) tied to it. I keep a $5-10 balance in it. When I do online shopping, I get to my cart, get the balance, transfer the amount required into the designated "online shopping account" in another window (you could do it over the phone), then process the transaction immediately. This way, if it is hacked, I get ripped off for a whopping $5-10 - that is, if I'm not monitoring the account or don't do anything about it. It only takes a minute, it's incredibly safe and it works!
