Oh man, that Mexican place sounds right up my alley! There were a bunch of good ones in South Tucson too, but sadly and oddly, I find the Mexican food situation in southern California to be fairly dismal.
Tool is one of my all-time favorite bands!!! One of the things I really love about them is that I've been listening to them since they came out and I was back in high school, but I feel like they've grown and matured with me. The funny thing is that I am always extremely disappointed when they come out with a new album, but then it takes me anywhere from a month to a year to understand it as a work of genius. I think Lateralus has got to be one of the best albums ever made of any genre. I was a Jane's fan too, but I haven't done a good job of keeping up with them since Ritual de lo Habitual.
I have the mexican food argument with all of co-workers in San Diego CONSTANTLY! My office is actually in San Diego, but I work from home in Phoenix....and they are always saying how much better everything is there as compared to Phx..including mexican food! I still haven't been to a mexican food place out there that I think is better than what I can get here though!
Yes...completely agree with you on Tool. I grew up with them as well...and its just every aspect that I absolutely love. From the instrumental talent, to Maynards incredible voice...and his lyrics..I mean come ON! Brilliant! And the fact that Maynard has that winery in Northern AZ now makes me love him that much more. Just when I thought I couldn't fall more in love with a Rock Star...he opens a winery!! My family still makes wine...so its something I'm pretty interested in...and its in my own backyard! I have a few of his bottles that I got at a signing he did out here...so pretty cool that I got to meet him briefly. I still need to make a trip up to the winery though...its near Jerome. I just need to suck it up and take a day trip one of these weekends. I haven't been a fan of much of the newer Jane's stuff...don't have any on the trusty iPod actually....but I still go to see them whenever they do a show....which surprisingly is fairly often considering they came out in the 80s! I just saw them last month actually. They play all of their older stuff at their shows...they'll maybe sneak in one or 2 newer songs, but its all of the classics from Nothing Shocking and Ritual de lo Habitual that they play most. They still put on an amazing live show too.
Yeah, Maynard's amazing -- that guy seems to have a hand in just about everything, despite being completely insane! You definitely ought to check out that winery and report back! I love Tool for all of the reasons you mention, but I think the thing that always struck me the most (aside from just how intelligent it is for heavy metal) is the really odd and unique juxtaposition they've always had between being almost grotesquely heavy on the one hand, and delicately angelic on the other. I haven't been to a big concert in quite some time, but Tool is pretty much the only major live act I really regret not having seen. I've seen a lot of my other favorites (including David Bowie, Radiohead, and Beck), but unfortunately never Tool. I bet Jane's Addiction puts on a great show (especially if they stick to the old stuff)!

Hey all, I am just getting back from a concert featuring James Blood Ulmer and Vernon Reid in their blues band, and Me'Shell Ndegeocello doing Nina Simone covers. Before I left for the concert, I received a package from my friend LLJR. He sent me BPT and Car-mal Mambo. While I am not reviewing these juices, I will say that the caramel in CMM is (I believe) the same caramel in Caramel Apple. The BPT (Black Pomegranate Tea) is the most pulchritudinous (I had to find an exotic word beyond beautiful) vape that I have ever had. This may seem weird, but that vape seemed to start a new chapter in my life, not just my vaping life.
Wlad, you simply know what it is that you're doing! Thanks, J.

Reluctantly listening to Glenn Miller right now! Dad plays it while he works the treadmill. I understand some love it, but personally, I want to SHOOT MYSELF IN THE FACE!

Thanks for the update!! Except now I need to add PBT to my list! For some reason, I haven't had that one on the "try soon" list...and I really have no idea why, especially considering how much I love CBPT. I think the PBT will have to go in the next order...no question. I haven't tried the Caramel Apple, but I do have Car-mal Mambo....and that is one good juice! I can taste that same caramel from CPBT, but obviously its the primary flavor in CMM. I was worried that one would be too sweet for me, but it wasn't. I think I described it once before...but the best I do to try and explain it is that to me its a very "mature" caramel, Not something overly sweet, or that you would expect to find in your typical candy bar. I really enjoyed that juice. Now I can't wait to get some PBT!!
Dang, I missed all the Jazz talk!! No mention of Bird?!? Here we go. My all-time fav jazz pic right here. Notice Monk and Mingus are there too.Great calls from wonderland and Mann!!

Hope you all are enjoying your weekend!
Beethoven for me too: "Fidelio", with some Bolo de Banana.
Really?? You are in Chandler, right? I figured there had to be some out here somewhere...I'm up north by Desert Ridge/N Scottsdale. I might have to do a couple searches and find one. My guess is there has to be one in the Biltmore area or Old Towne...if not even closer to me.
All of this Boba tea, A+, and music talk has me smiling!
I haven't had any Boba tea since moving to Georgia, but I think it maybe just due to my ignorance. Let me back up a bit.
Pizza:
This has been a problem. Until recently, I came to the conclusion that there was no pizza in Georgia. I had almost given up, randomly found a place that delivers to where I am. I opened the box, and smiled. The place didn't have a menu online, but the little coupon that I almost threw away confirmed my suspicions without taking a bite. "New Jersey Style Pizza". Score!
Chinese Food:
I'm not talking authentic (which I do love). I'm talking carry-out Americanized Chinese, but good carry-out Americanized Chinese. The kind my tribe is known for consuming and being experts on (especially on Christmas). Finally tried the place right around the corner a few months ago. Utter shock. Next time I went in, I straight up asked my man (he's my man now) where he was from. NYC!
Bagels:
I am giving up this fight. I don't see it happening.
As far as music goes, I would love to be able to make mix tapes for all my Ahlusion buddies! My music taste definitely leans to the obscure, but I love sharing it.![]()
No offense to anyone but NJ pizza cannot compete with NY pizza!! Not that I'm partial to NY or anything![]()
I had a fairly similar experience with country. My immediate family never really listened to it (we were more of an experimental late '60s garage rock household), but where I grew up, it was blaring from every drugstore cowboy-driven pick-up truck that drove by. I rejected it in favor of punk, industrial, heavy metal, and some rap, but at some point I realized that it did strike some twangy chord in me. Not that "Chatahoochee," Oak Ridge Boys, Clint Black stuff either. The only new stuff I like is Hank III, who captures some spirit of his grandaddy and alternates with metal. The funny thing is, I've noticed that some of the country old-timers manage to plumb the depths of human despair a lot better than some of the angrier or edgier music I used to listen to!
