Oh man, that Mexican place sounds right up my alley! There were a bunch of good ones in South Tucson too, but sadly and oddly, I find the Mexican food situation in southern California to be fairly dismal.

Tool is one of my all-time favorite bands!!! One of the things I really love about them is that I've been listening to them since they came out and I was back in high school, but I feel like they've grown and matured with me. The funny thing is that I am always extremely disappointed when they come out with a new album, but then it takes me anywhere from a month to a year to understand it as a work of genius. I think Lateralus has got to be one of the best albums ever made of any genre. I was a Jane's fan too, but I haven't done a good job of keeping up with them since Ritual de lo Habitual.

I have the mexican food argument with all of co-workers in San Diego CONSTANTLY! My office is actually in San Diego, but I work from home in Phoenix....and they are always saying how much better everything is there as compared to Phx..including mexican food! I still haven't been to a mexican food place out there that I think is better than what I can get here though!

Yes...completely agree with you on Tool. I grew up with them as well...and its just every aspect that I absolutely love. From the instrumental talent, to Maynards incredible voice...and his lyrics..I mean come ON! Brilliant! And the fact that Maynard has that winery in Northern AZ now makes me love him that much more. Just when I thought I couldn't fall more in love with a Rock Star...he opens a winery!! My family still makes wine...so its something I'm pretty interested in...and its in my own backyard! I have a few of his bottles that I got at a signing he did out here...so pretty cool that I got to meet him briefly. I still need to make a trip up to the winery though...its near Jerome. I just need to suck it up and take a day trip one of these weekends. I haven't been a fan of much of the newer Jane's stuff...don't have any on the trusty iPod actually....but I still go to see them whenever they do a show....which surprisingly is fairly often considering they came out in the 80s! I just saw them last month actually. They play all of their older stuff at their shows...they'll maybe sneak in one or 2 newer songs, but its all of the classics from Nothing Shocking and Ritual de lo Habitual that they play most. They still put on an amazing live show too.

All over the place
Hey all, I am just getting back from a concert featuring James Blood Ulmer and Vernon Reid in their blues band, and Me'Shell Ndegeocello doing Nina Simone covers. Before I left for the concert, I received a package from my friend LLJR. He sent me BPT and Car-mal Mambo. While I am not reviewing these juices, I will say that the caramel in CMM is (I believe) the same caramel in Caramel Apple. The BPT (Black Pomegranate Tea) is the most pulchritudinous (I had to find an exotic word beyond beautiful) vape that I have ever had. This may seem weird, but that vape seemed to start a new chapter in my life, not just my vaping life.

Wlad, you simply know what it is that you're doing! Thanks, J.

Yeah, Maynard's amazing -- that guy seems to have a hand in just about everything, despite being completely insane! You definitely ought to check out that winery and report back! I love Tool for all of the reasons you mention, but I think the thing that always struck me the most (aside from just how intelligent it is for heavy metal) is the really odd and unique juxtaposition they've always had between being almost grotesquely heavy on the one hand, and delicately angelic on the other. I haven't been to a big concert in quite some time, but Tool is pretty much the only major live act I really regret not having seen. I've seen a lot of my other favorites (including David Bowie, Radiohead, and Beck), but unfortunately never Tool. I bet Jane's Addiction puts on a great show (especially if they stick to the old stuff :p)!

Totally agree, the greatest thing about Tool is the contradictions created in their music...

And I was a huge fan of Jane's back when they first started, but I have not paid attention recently. Don't get me started on being an eclectic music fan... I listen to everything from bluegrass to electronic, and anything in between, but I tend to stick mostly with modern jazz influenced music, and bands that have improvisation type stuff.

Oh man.... all this Mexican food talk is making me hungry! I will say lots of great things about the food here in Aus, but the place suffers from a tragic shortage of Mexican and Latin American food. We just acquired a burrito joint FIVE YEARS after our last proper Mexican restaurant closed down. :(

On the other hand, the Asian food is second to none. Chinese, Japanese Thai, Indonesian, Malaysian, Indian... even the tiniest strip-mall places make phenomenal food.

On my last business trip to Sydney a colleague introduced me to Din Tai Fung. HOLY SHEET that may have been the meal of my life. Those little soup dumplings (xiao long bao)? I'm obsessed with them now.

Maynard's voice. Perfect with a glass of riesling and some Peachy Criminal. Or anything else. I've been lucky enough to see him with both Tool and APC for a total of four shows. Jane's Addiction does out on a great show too, saw them with Trent a couple of summers ago. I've been working on re-organizing my messy music library all weekend- our neighbors burned our apartment building down last year and I lost my entire 1.5 tb collection along with everything else we owned including our puppy. :( I kind of put off even thinking about trying to rebuild for quite a while, like, music, oh well, we don't even have a bed etc..and one day I snapped out of it and realized I'd probably rather live without dishes and towels and furniture than live without music. So I have music again, but I'm old and slow and it's a lot of work and brain cell usage. Funny to find this talk while take a break from my tagging, and yay! Now I am listening to Aenima and feeling happy. =)

Thanks for the update!! Except now I need to add PBT to my list! For some reason, I haven't had that one on the "try soon" list...and I really have no idea why, especially considering how much I love CBPT. I think the PBT will have to go in the next order...no question. I haven't tried the Caramel Apple, but I do have Car-mal Mambo....and that is one good juice! I can taste that same caramel from CPBT, but obviously its the primary flavor in CMM. I was worried that one would be too sweet for me, but it wasn't. I think I described it once before...but the best I do to try and explain it is that to me its a very "mature" caramel, Not something overly sweet, or that you would expect to find in your typical candy bar. I really enjoyed that juice. Now I can't wait to get some PBT!!

What a great, and completely accurate description of Tool, and I would never have been able to put that into words...even though I agree 100%. I was always big on going to concerts (still am actually), so most of my favorite bands I have seen numerous times. Last time I saw Tool was in 2009...I don't believe they have been on another show in my area since...but I hope they do. I've always been a huge Madonna fan....mainly because my cousin who I totally looked up to as a kid loved her and I always "copied" everything she did...so that turned me into an insane Madonna fan. Since I was 16 or so, I've seen her twice every times she tours....either in 2 different cities, or both nights that she performs in my own city. I saw Tool twice in the summer 2009, once in Phoenix, once in Pomona, CA. (That was one of those all day festival shows with Linkin Park, Alice in Chains, and several others that I can't remember right now. At that show Maynard was actually on crutches, because he fell in the vineyard during harvest. I'll definitely report back if I ever make it up there.

Reluctantly listening to Glenn Miller right now! Dad plays it while he works the treadmill. I understand some love it, but personally, I want to SHOOT MYSELF IN THE FACE!

Awwww Tez, Puscifer just played at The Fox in Riverside earlier this year! Having Maynard right here in our little city made me do tiny somersaults of joy. A lot of us here must all be around the same age, good ol' industrial kids of the 90s :) I was lucky to hit every show that I could from Skinny Puppy to Tool to White Zombie to KMFDM to Thrill Kill Kult and on and on. I don't think I'll ever quite grow up and out of my favorites and I still see them when they come around. If Puscifer/Tool comes back to Riverside I'll drag you there myself. Maynard live is about as good as it gets (outside of possibly Godspeed You Black Emperor!, one of my other serious musical obsessions).

The only Tool show I actually saw in concert, back in '98, Wing's Stadium in Kalamzoo. It was awesome... On the floor in a minor league hockey rink.

I have a copy of the soundboard somewhere on CD, I will look for it and if I can dig it up... I will upload it, and I can PM a link to those interested? They played a crazy Ted Nugent cover... Go figure, it is his stomping ground, haha.

I'm glad you liked it Mann. Vecchio is still my #1 out of these tobaccos that you've introduced me to. I know that I'm only a couple of hours in but its the one that I see unwinding with at the end of a long day...similar to the pbt. Just a nice sit back and relax type of vape. And since I'm just starting to reach back into the tobacco field, I don't think that I would have ordered it with strong tobacco. That would have been a mistake. The vanilla and tobacco play off of each other perfectly in this balance.

Thanks for the update!! Except now I need to add PBT to my list! My only advice is to have somebody hide it from you after you try it. It was good almost right away but I got tied up in my next A+ shipment of new flavors and somehow my pbt bottle was left alone for prob 6 weeks. When I pulled it back out I was floored by how nice it was.

Hope you all are enjoying your weekend!

Oh, for sure - can't forget Charlie Parker - or another of my favorite jazz pianists - Bud Powell - that guy was a GENIUS! - and Bill Evans.....I could go on and on -

Mo, I also like most types of music, except Country and Folk - I just can't get past those two.

Really?? You are in Chandler, right? I figured there had to be some out here somewhere...I'm up north by Desert Ridge/N Scottsdale. I might have to do a couple searches and find one. My guess is there has to be one in the Biltmore area or Old Towne...if not even closer to me.

So I guess you weren't the lucky Powerball winner??!!!!

All of this Boba tea, A+, and music talk has me smiling!

I haven't had any Boba tea since moving to Georgia, but I think it maybe just due to my ignorance. Let me back up a bit.

Pizza:

This has been a problem. Until recently, I came to the conclusion that there was no pizza in Georgia. I had almost given up, randomly found a place that delivers to where I am. I opened the box, and smiled. The place didn't have a menu online, but the little coupon that I almost threw away confirmed my suspicions without taking a bite. "New Jersey Style Pizza". Score!

Chinese Food:

I'm not talking authentic (which I do love). I'm talking carry-out Americanized Chinese, but good carry-out Americanized Chinese. The kind my tribe is known for consuming and being experts on (especially on Christmas). Finally tried the place right around the corner a few months ago. Utter shock. Next time I went in, I straight up asked my man (he's my man now) where he was from. NYC!

Bagels:

I am giving up this fight. I don't see it happening.

As far as music goes, I would love to be able to make mix tapes for all my Ahlusion buddies! My music taste definitely leans to the obscure, but I love sharing it. :)

No offense to anyone but NJ pizza cannot compete with NY pizza!! Not that I'm partial to NY or anything :)

Sitting patiently waiting for the convo to turn from jazz to blues. :) I don't know if I've ever touched a piano key but I've got the string calluses on my fingertips that show that I try not to let my guitars sit unloved for too long. I haven't mastered it by any means but I try to make it sound less horrible every time. Lol

I've got tickets to see BB King next month. He's one that I've never seen live and I don't know how many more chances I'll have. Too many of the greats have already passed. I've got a library of Lightnin' Hopkins that I never tire of hearing.

Ok ok. I'll go to bed now. Proceed with your jazz talk. :)

I would gladly take a slice of New Jersey pizza over the garbage they serve in California. Pizza is easily the #1 thing I miss about NY, though having excellent Mexican food softens the blow.

I had a fairly similar experience with country. My immediate family never really listened to it (we were more of an experimental late '60s garage rock household), but where I grew up, it was blaring from every drugstore cowboy-driven pick-up truck that drove by. I rejected it in favor of punk, industrial, heavy metal, and some rap, but at some point I realized that it did strike some twangy chord in me. Not that "Chatahoochee," Oak Ridge Boys, Clint Black stuff either. The only new stuff I like is Hank III, who captures some spirit of his grandaddy and alternates with metal. The funny thing is, I've noticed that some of the country old-timers manage to plumb the depths of human despair a lot better than some of the angrier or edgier music I used to listen to!

My mother was a concert pianist so I grew up listening to mostly classical music. My parents were teens in the 50's, so I also heard a lot of 50's music. I've gone through many different phases of music - classic rock, disco, pop, R&B, rap, jazz, blues, etc. and have all on my iPhone - however, the ONLY Country music I have on my iPhone is Lady Antebellum - like them a lot!

Having lived in both New Haven and Long Island (Massapequa, huge Italian area)... I would actually take the New Haven style pizza hands down. Brick oven crust and sauce was mouth watering :p
