sorry for my lack of english understanding and hijacking the thread but "checked in luggage" is the one that goes in the back of the plane right? Carry on bag is what you take with you to your seat yes?

If thats right, how in earth do they "confiscate" the batteries? They open your luggage somewhere and remove them? I'm confused... sorry.

Regards
Tony

Checked luggage goes in the cargo bay / belly / underneath the passenger compartment, carry on is carried on by the passenger and stored in an over head bin or under your seat.

All checked luggage goes through xray screening and a dog or some sort of odor testing, if they see something that needs a closer look or get a positive result from odor testing they will open your bag and inspect.

Thx for the clarification although carry on bags also go through x-ray and suspicious liquids go into the spectrometer right in front of you (at least here in Portugal).

I was a little confused because they make such a fuss not to touch your belongings that it was hard to grasp that in the back stage, they would just open your bag, crawl through your dirty laundry and remove the Batts without saying anything. Somehow I thought they would just retain the bags and not let them board or something like that.

The only time I had to give some explanation was like 4 years ago when I was carrying an ego pouch with me and two ego Batts. The x-ray operator couldn't figure out what they were so he asked me to open the pouch and show him.

Tony

Last time I checked, it was only spare batteries that had to be in carry-on. Batteries in devices are allowed in checked baggage. OTOH, I wouldn't want a phone, mp3 player, tablet or camera in checked baggage for other reasons. And I'm not sure whether a mod or eGo device counts as a device with batteries in.

The one time I had something suspicious* in my baggage the whole party's luggage was held up for 24 hours and my bag got to me four weeks later. But that was decades ago; it may have improved recently. I would still prefer to have everything they might want to ask questions about in my carry-on. If you're carrying a holiday's worth of eliquid, some of it will probably have to be checked-in because any in carry-on needs to be in the plaggy bag with your toiletries.

* It was a birthday present for my sister -- a soapstone statue of Gnesha, wrapped insanely well and taped up into a 5 1/4" floppy disk box to protect it against light fingers and heavy handling. Mea-culpa; lesson learned.

I flew from Stanstead to Jerez, Jerez to Barcellona, and Venice to Gatwick this summer. I carried my 2 iTaste vv v3s and an ego type battery in my carry-on baggage and it was never an issue. I even had nail clippers and a bit of 30 gauge kanthal with me. I thought they would question that for sure, but they didn't even look at it. I always get checked because I travel with quite a few electronics so I always bring a power-strip. They opened my bag and looked at the power strip, but didn't look at my vape devices at all.
