Has anyone had any problems getting an ecig past airport security? I have a trip coming up in a week and this will be my first flight with an ecig. My trip isn't long so I wasn't planning on checking any baggage and was wondering if anyone has ever been held up going through the security gate. I once had to carry on a barcode reader and ended up being detained for almost an hour while the inspected it. I don't want to repeat that again...

I just flew out of DFW a couple of weeks ago, which I am assuming you are flying out of, and they did stop me for a minute and asked what it was and I just puffed it and showed them and they were fine with it. I would be sure not to carry to much Eliquid with you to stay below the liquid limit for carry on's. Good luck and safe trip.

Being that I am a pilot, I go through security checkpoints all the time and have never had any problem, no second looks, nothing. I do wear a uniform though so maybe that has something to do with it, but I do not think so. I just leave it in my bag as I go through and nothing every comes of it. I think that you will be just fine.

I carried one e-cig onboard and didn't have any problems. I also checked a bag with chargers, carts, e-liquid & extra atomizers/batteries in case there was a problem.

Is it okay to check-in lithium batteries?

I have a trip in about a month and I'm already starting to worry about it.

I'd like to hand carry some items and check-in backups just in case of problems but I was under the impression that lithium batteries had to be hand carried (which means that if they get confiscated, I'm stuffed).

Yes, the batteries are just fine. Laptops, digital cameras, cellphones, voice recorders --> almost all these items have some form of lithium batteries and I have both checked some of these items and of course carried them onboard also with no problem at all in any manner.
