Hey y'all! I tried some new flavors from a well-known vendor this past weekend and while I'm addicted to them (so yum) I keep getting a weird aftertaste. With two of them, it's an alcoholic taste, and with another, it's a sort of plasticy flavor. I have let them steep (caps off but dropper tips still on) for a couple days and sealed them back up - they've been in for a little over a week I guess - and I clean my dripping attys with PGA/Everclear.

I guess I'm wondering if the alcohol taste is coming from the cleaning (you would think after dripping a ml or so it'd be gone though?) - from the atty itself (these are 1.8-2.0 ohm attys from two different companies, bridgeless, and NOT my favorite brand - they have no wicking in the center, and my favorite brand - which is MBV's smoktech bridgeless attys - still have a tuft of something down in the center, which is the only difference I can tell between the ones I'm getting the icky flavors from and the ones I get no icky from, though I also use a different brand of juice in the non-cky-flavors) - or from the juice, which may need more steeping.

Insight?

On occasion, my SO has asked me if I have been drinking while I am vaping a particular juice. As far as I can do, it has nothing to do with cleaning. I associate it with this particular juice. And I thought I was the only one... it is also, not so much an after taste for me, but my breath.. (and yes I regularly brush my teeth and drink tons of water while vaping)

Hmmm... see, it's a distinct, vodka-y flavor on the exhale for me.

There's a particular well-known and much-loved vendor whose flavors all have this problem for me. Some juices have more ethyl alcohol in the base than others, and steeping seems to help that, but the plastic-vodka thing I remember; perfectly describes it. If switching attys etc. doesn't help then we might share a sensitivity.

I didn't want to name any names, because I really do enjoy the juices I got in the sampler pack, and I really want a BIG bottle of one of the flavors. I might just email the vendor and ask if there's something they know of that might do it, and whether it's part of the flavoring or an additive/base/etc that might can be removed. I'm just hoping it's not whatever makes the flavor so good, because up until the aftertaste/exhale taste, it's easily the best berry-based vape I've had. :(

You know, it occurs to me that another vendor, one I'm not so very fond of, also sent me a batch of juice and ALL their flavors tasted super boozy, but on both in and exhale. I wouldn't be surprised if both these vendors use the same brand of flavoring. I assumed with the previous vendor that their juice was "supposed" to taste like that, because they name their stuff after alcoholic beverages, and put the bottles in the second drawer of my vape box (where juice goes to die).

I DID email the vendor whose juice I like and asked if there's anything I can request be "left out" or modified (PG/VG ratio, etc) when I order my big stinkin' bottle of their juice to temper the alcoholy flavor, or if I just need to let it steep for a few more days.

If you detect alcohol, definitely take those drippers off for about two days and let them breathe. It won't evaporate otherwise. Try to find the vendor thread and ask the question there. I don't see anything wrong with naming a vendor if your intentions are looking for help and advice. I have some extended experience with a few well known vendors, one of whom uses alcohol in their extractions and I find that caps & drippers off is a necessity in their case.

I emailed the vendor last night and he let me know that the flavoring brand he uses contains alcohol, and to let it sit with the drip caps off - same as you said, <3 - and after a day of breathing with its cap off, one of the flavors had improved REMARKABLY so I'm setting out the rest of the batch for a day or two.

I'm really relieved that it's not me. I left them out with the drip caps on, which was apparently not sufficient.

I love that I learn new stuff and my vape experience improves all the time. <3 It really makes me happy.
