My name ain't John, this is somebody else's greasy shirt, my name's Kurt.....Brad Paisley, Famous People for the non-country fans :)

I made my first e-cig purchase last night after reading a wealth of info on this forum and other sites. Like most, I am looking for an alternative to smoking. I have tried almost every method of quitting and just do not have the ability to quit. I know I am killing myself daily and yet I continue to do it.

I have never viewed myself as an addict, addicts snort, shoot and smoke illegal drugs and it ruins their lives and families.....oh wait, THAT IS what I do, it's just legal.......this sucks.

I am doing my best to tell myself that when I receive the equipment (joye 510 from cignot) that this is not a quitting method, rather, something to do that may replace analog smoking. Do you think that is the right attitude? My track record has proven to me that no matter what I do, quitting is going to be a huge challenge. I would like to hear your input.

Another thing that I have a worry about is if I do convert, am I going to turn into an e-cig junkie? What I mean by that is as a current analog smoker, I go outside every 30-40 minutes or so and have a cigarette. Do you former smokers now vape in the same increments or do you find yourselves taking a hit every 10-15 minutes?

I hate the fact that I am dependent on something period. Since it is no longer fashionable to smoke it disciplines me to hold off at times several hours while in non-smoking situations. Since vaping can be inconspicuous, will I fall into having to vape more than I use to smoke?

Thank you for any and all help and suggestions.

I do vape more than I smoked. I never thought I would quit cigarettes after 40 years and 3 packs a day. At first I still craved cigarettes and would smoke one every day for a while. Then I gradually got where I hated the taste of a cigarette. It has been several months since I last smoked and I have no desire. I would rather vape than smoke.

Vaping is not an easy addiction. It takes work to maintain your habit. I didn't really want to quit smoking when I started vaping but it just happened.

I started out the same way - with a 510 kit from Cignot. I didn't originally intend to quit but merely find a way to feed my addiction in an increasingly non-smoking world. Let's face it. Like it or not we ARE addicted.

I wound up liking the 510 so much that I just ceased smoking cigarettes in about a week's time. Do I use my pv more than I smoked? There's no real good answer to that in my case. PV use is different. I don't have to use it for 5 minutes straight because it'll burn down to nothing if I don't. At home at the computer I use it a LOT. Driving I use it but it's only a hit here and there. Working in a non smoking workplace I don't think about it as much as I used to think about rushing outside to hurriedly huff a cigarette. I think part of that has to do with the psychological effect of knowing that I can slip off to the restroom or stealth vape (stupid term imo but whatever).

In the end I can't say that I use a pv more than I smoked. It's just different for me. Either way I'm certainly glad that I'm no longer smoking cigarettes.

ha.......yea drugs come in various forms and most of us (if not all) use them.
caffeine, ibuprofen, food, HFCS, sugar..etc etc (are one that can get me if i am not careful)...thats maybe another topic though...:)

I am 3 days into this and at this point whatever keeps me off tobacco is a good thing!. I do seem to be vaping more than i smoked but my understanding is that it is not a 1:1 (vape/tobacco) equivalent. Vaping is a different delivery system for nicotine, a much slower gradual method. Tobacco is doped with so much other garbage and designed for such consistency that there is no equal match.

My goal was to get off the tobacco cuz i just got sick of the tar and harmful toxins, the nicotine will and does have to be managed cuz i do have a dependency (28yrs).

I wouldnt worry about being a junkie and whatnot, you already are. For me it was accepting a new delivery system. Can i quit one day, no idea, to me this seems like a start.

I got my eGo and dropped tobacco immediately, a clean switch. It is great not having to run outside every hour to smoke, and being able to smoke and not feel like i am hurting myself and others is also great in my mind. Also not stinking all the time, or stinking up my car or house and clothes etc. I feel i am sleeping and waking better than i have in years. I am only 3 day in and i think i am seeing positive results of my decision.

Thank you for the quick responses. Another question I have is that my wife smokes. She has quit in the past but started again. I would like to hear about some if the experiences others have had if in a similar situation.

Did smelling it on your spouse send you backwards? Disgust you? Etc?

Thanks,

I have been vaping for 2 weeks now and after smoking the 5 analogs I had I have been tobacco free for a week and a half now with no desire to buy more. All experiences may vary but I can tell you that I go to my neighbor's house quite often and she smokes but it hasn't even given me a twinge of wanting a regular cigarette again. I don't know about the smell getting to you because your wife still smokes because we smoke outside across the street.
It took me over a week to regulate my vaping because I was doing it too much (because of the fun factor) and was overdosing on nicotiene but before long I learned to recognize those symptoms and have reduced myself to a reasonable level now. From what I've read in this forum, you don't absorb as much nicotiene during vaping because there isn't the tar to keep it in your lungs so just take your time and try different levels of MG in your juice till you find a level that suits you.
Happy vaping to you Troutspinner and good luck!:vapor:

Four months in here and my husband still smokes. What is off is that I don't mind the smell of a cig in progress but when he goes outside to smoke and there isn't a breeae, he STINKS when he comes back in. So hard not to say anything !! Ah well....And WELCOME to ECF !
