Almost at the end of my first flavor

Hi everyone, I bought a Halo Triton and a menthol sampler pack (also Halo) and got it last Friday.

I'm almost completely done with one of the samples (HX3) and was wondering:

1. Is it necessary to wash out my tank before trying a new flavor? My guess is I will just get some residual flavor of the HX3.

2. Do I need to replace my tank? I heard I should replace the tank every 2 weeks or so to avoid bacterial growth. So this isn't as high of a priority.

When washing my tank to switch flavors, I'm assuming soaking in hot water and squeezing the wicks should be enough. I've read about using ethanol (PGA or vodka) as well as a bit on using denture cleaners, but I don't particularly feel like running out at the moment to buy either of those unless they are absolutely necessary when simply switching flavors and not trying to sterilize my tanks.

Thanks.

It might depend upon what tank you are using. My self, I just rinse out with hot water if it is only for a flavor change. After a few hits of the new liquid, the old flave fades away. I found that sufficient. I don't even bother if doing like flavours. Such as a fruit to a fruit, etc.

But what ever don't use anything like a soap with a scent. You will never rinse it out.

1. Taking apart your tank and cleaning it along with washing off the coil is more than enough. Just take apart the tank and run warm water in it to wash it out. Clean off the base that holds your coil and run warm water over the coil as well. Once you've done that and everything is rinsed off, just let things sit and dry. Put a paper towel against the flavor wicks (the white hairy things coming out of your coil) and dab the paper towel against the sides until you don't see water on the towel anymore. Now, once every thing is dry, put a droplet of your new juice on each side of the flavor wicks to prime it and avoid dry hits, then re-fill your tank with your new liquid and re-assemble every thing. Sounds like a lot, but once you do this a couple times it's a 5 minute process.

2. No, you don't need to replace your tank every 2 weeks. That's a very unneeded expense. If you're using a plastic tank, there's a lot of e-juices you'll have to stay away from to avoid it seeping into the plastic or melting it. Invest in a tank that uses pyrex glass such as a Protank 2. Once you've done that, all you need to really do is wash it out and clean off your coil before each new flavor.

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Vaping, and to ECF, striderrblu!

You do not need to wash your tank out between flavors if you are switching to a similar or complimentary flavor. You are correct that there will just be a little residual flavor from the last e-liquid. And yes, generally just soaking in hot water as squeezing the wicks will be sufficient, as you and Justen said. If it's a really stubborn flavor to get out of your tank, the vodka or PGA helps. Generally, this will be enough to sterilize your tanks, too.

As far as replacing your tank every two weeks, it's not so much to avoid bacterial growth, since the hot water and/or vodka will sterilize it pretty well. Plus, propylene glycol (PG) has some anti-microbial properties. Your tank might just not last much beyond that, if it doesn't have replaceable coils. You didn't say what you are using... Regardless, you will probably want to pick up a couple of replacements, as it's hard to know how long exactly your tank will last. Some die pretty quickly, and some seem to last forever!

edited to say: Wow, I must have typed slowly! A couple of answers above mine give the same (excellent!) advice I did! :)

Also, keep in mind that the darker the e-liquid you're using is, the more aroma/flavor will be left behind when you change juices. Even after cleaning, I can't get the aroma or the hint of flavor out of my next juice for like 2-3 tanks. Some juices, if potent and dark enough, completely ruin your coils. They also burn out your coils faster. Just a heads up. Clear liquids are a lot smoother and cleaner in general.

Wow thanks for all the quick replies!

I should have stated that I'm using the tank that came with my Halo Triton. I'm not sure what to call it, so I'll just call it a Triton Tank.

Should I disassemble the coil part? There are two wicks, I have read one is attached to the coil and the other is free to move. I know I can pull off the rubber stopper as well, so I can clean that too.

I believe the tank is plastic. I may invest in a glass tank, but I'm not sure where to begin looking for that kind of stuff that would be compatible with my batteries for the Halo Triton system.

I'm pretty sure that the Triton batteries are kr808d-1 (808) and eGo threaded, but you will want to find out for sure before you buy anything else for them. A good place to research this is here: KR808D-1 Halo definitely uses 808 threading on their smaller G6 batteries. If the outer threads on your Triton are true eGo threads, then you have a lot of options for tanks in the future.

The picture on the Halo website looks like the tanks are most likely Kanger T2s or similar. Yes, the tank is polycarbonate, and as such, is susceptible to some juices, but really not that many. Many juice vendors are now putting warnings on their flavors that have been reported to crack plastic tanks. You should be good with the Triton tanks for quite some time. You will want to pick up some replacement coils, though. The tank, itself, will likely last many months. I wouldn't try disassembling the coil until you have a dead one to play with, first. Or at least some back-ups if you mess up the one you're working with. I've had coil heads that I've taken apart and dry burned to get the gunk off, and then they leaked forevermore. Oh, and as far as replacing the coil heads, usually they don't just "die", the quality of your vape starts to decline or taste a little burned.

edited to add: OK, so I did a little more looking around, and the outer threads are vGo, which is similar enough to the eGo threading that some, but not all, eGo tanks will work on it, but some will push in the battery stem on your Triton, which you definitely don't want. Do take a look at the kr808 forum, though, because you will learn a lot more about compatibility and what other brands you can use with your set-up.

Color can indicate that, but man, peppermint and mint are hard to get rid of, and those juices are usually clear!
