Hi everyone,

I found this thread a few weeks ago and am looking to purchase my first e-cig.

I have been a smoker for 23 years - for the past ten years I have smoked 1-pack a day of Marlboro Ultra Lights 100's and the years prior to that, 1-pack Virginia Slim Ultra Lights 100's. I haven't smoked in my home, in my car, or in public places for the past 12 years - I smoke only on my front or back porch.

I was thinking the DSE901 would be a good choice but wanted others opionions and I have a few questions.

What strength of cartridges and e-liquid should I purchase? And what can I do with the higher strengths that come with the starter kit (I'm guessing that the "High" and "Medium" may be too much nic since I'm used to Ultra Lights). If I use a "Low or Light" cartridge, would I buy the "zero" juice just for added flavor?

How many cartidges and juices should I order to get started? I was thinking that the JC Peach Cobbler sounded kind of "fun". Anyone tested that flavor out yet?

Please let me know your thoughts ~ I'm excited to get started on the journey to give up the analogs!

Thanks so much for your time!

p.s. I think I am going to order from VaporGuys unless someone has had bad experiences with them......let me know.

I smoked lights/ultra lights too and thought the same thing about the nicotine levels. I was wrong. I had to use medium or wasn't satisified. I think it may be more of how much you smoke, than what type? Now I have quite a bit of 6mg. just sitting here (I will get around to them when I cut back)

I bought the 901 as a starter too. Still love it, but ordered a penstyle for longer battery life when out & about

Good luck to you!

I just started as well... was considering the Dura, the 901, and the Kissbox Extended.

My sister bought the KB classic. She brought it over and I found it too long and heavy and the auto switch cut out way too fast.

I PMed Steve at PureSmoker and he recommended giving the pilot a try. I did and my wife and I love it. Maybe not as much vapor as a Dura, my wife does better... french curls and all... it also has a normal round, cigarette type tip, instead of the tiparillo type tip...

The pilot is about the same size as a normal cigarette, draws nice, and allows you to get a full drag on the auto switch without cutting out.

$50... can't go wrong with the basic kit.

I bought the 36 and find it too strong. Also bought some 11mg and it is too light. I plan to mix the two to get 24... try that for awhile.

Three batteries, three atomizers, 100 ml of juice, and 10 carts is a reasonable first order. This allows for failed parts, backup... forgetting to charge a battery, etc.

So far, I like Cash's Juice at PureSmoker in Menthol, Vanilla, and Energee. Energee is my favorite... tastes like RedBull...

Good luck.

Nicotine ends up being a personal thing, so take advanatage of that first set of cartridges, keep an open mind and see what you end up enjoying the emost. I smoked Marlboro Lights for 20 years and found the low nic to be my favorite. So treat it like an experimenmt. But those carts won't last long on a 901 or be prepared to order more juice or carts as soon as you make your choice!

Well, I've got quite a few models, and there's no perfect e-cig, and what appeals to one person will not appeal to another.

For example, I have the Pilot, and while I like it okay, it's certainly not my favorite. The cartridges don't last nearly as long, and topping off/refilling the carts is more work with this model, at least for me.

I love my Dura, but I can't yet recommend it because the Dura-C has only been out for a short while, too short a time to know whether the kinks have been sufficiently worked out.

Penstyles produce a lot of vapor and taste, and the cartridges last for a good while, but it's offputting to some new e-smokers because of the size. It's much larger than an analog cigarette, and sometimes new e-smokers need some time to ease into something so non-cigarette like.

So, almost by default, the DSE901 typically gets recommended for newcomers. It's bigger than an analog, but not obnoxiously so. It's got a decent cartridge size (but not as good as the penstyle or the Dura). It's been around for awhile, so it's not plagued with bugs and kinks, and it's pretty darned reliable and easy to operate. In other words, it's a great e-cig to cut your teeth on.

But the DSE901 isn't necessarily a model that you use then discard as you become a more seasoned e-smoker. I still use it every day. :) Truthfully, it's saved me more than once when my other models have had "issues."

As for nicotine levels, that's the hardest thing to gauge, imo. I smoked 2+ packs a day for 30 years, and I naturally assumed I'd need a high nicotine concentration. Nope. Gave me headaches because I was vaping like I smoked . . . pretty close to chain vaping. A figured out that at high concentrations, vaping a couple of drops (which was my "equivalent" of a cigarette), I was taking in the equivalent of about 4 cigarettes in terms of nicotine. Holy crap! I might have my figures off on that one, but in any event, I was actually increasing my nicotine intake because I was vaping so heavily.

If you plan on vaping a fair amount, start off with low and then have a bottle of medium to "spike" your e-cig cartridge if you start craving analogs badly. If you were a heavy smoker, then you might need to start with medium with occasional spikes of high. Some people have reported needing high nic solutions to fight off the cravings, but I'd venture to say that most people can't vape high nic continuously. (Note that I said "most," not "all.")

Good luck!

The peach cobbler juice tastes very good but if you want to try it you might want to order just a small bottle. Out of the 10 sample flavors I got from JC two of them turned green. The arctic mint and the peach cobbler. I wanted to use one of the little viels for another juice so I poured out the peach cobbler that was still half full and it had the consistency of syrup while all the others are still thin as water. So unless they played around with the ingredients since then I think there are problems with Peach Cobbler.
