Altria has created a new tobacco consumer rights/advocacy website, which is likely to both help and complicate efforts by CASAA, NVC and other tobacco consumer groups.

Since the purpose of Altria's website is to infuence legislation and public policies, I'm creating this thread in Legislation News. I noticed that someone else started a thread in the other media news section about this, and inaccurately referred to Altria's website as promoting "smokers rights", which is the term that CTFK/ACS/AHA/ALA/Legacy and other e-cigarette prohibitionists also will refer to Altria's new website.

Hopefully, Altria's new website will cite and oppose legislative and regulatory attempts to ban sales, increases taxes, ban flavorings and/or restrict usage of smokeless tobacco products.

But unless/until Altria begins marketing e-cigarettes, their website is likely to remain silent about e-cigarette legislation.

The downside of Altria's new website is that anti tobacco extremists are likely to falsely allege that tobacco consumers (including e-cig consumers) who engage in legislative advocacy are fronting for Altria, or being manipulated by Altria.

I encourage folks to sign up at Altria's new website to keep informed about pending tobacco related legislation.
But Bill, I thought that's what you were for.
:D

I'll sign up, if for no other reason than to add to the number of people who sign up.
I'll show support for anything that can help our cause.

yeah I really don't trust anything Altria puts up, FSPTCA was clearly largely designed in their favor, like banning flavored cigs for example. If anything, they'll make sure that congress sneeks in a nice little tariff on imported snuff like Swedish Snus. Another thing you can expect is for them to expand on BAT's stance that "E-cigarettes don't work" and try to get them banned as well. I would trust it more if RJR were in charge of it because they don't suck as much government _____ as Altria.
