A drip shield for this atomizer I just bought? Its a 510 dripping atomizer. I've never dripped before but I was under the impression you didn't really need a shield if you were using it sparingly. I just bought it to sample liquids. I'm not taking this out of the house to vape regularly. Just put a couple drops in it and vape right? It also says not to dry burn it, how many puffs will I get out of a couple drops and will I know when it's about to go dry so I don't end up dry burning it?

SmartVapes 510 Dripping Atomizer long Barrel 1.5ohm

EDIT: sorry, meant to post this in general e-smoking. Feel free to move it if possible.

i mean you can get a drip shield if you're worried about juice getting into your battery if it leaks, but depends what you're using. if you're just on like an ego or somethin i wouldn't bother. an expensive mod without a juice resevoir or somethin, ya you might want one.

depending on if your juice is pg or heavy on vg, it's usually 2 or 3 drops dripped directly onto the mesh, or coils in your case.

if you're using a high vg 2 thick drops is good, pg maybe 3. but i wouldn't go more than 3 in most cases.
usually you wet the mesh with an extra drop or two when an atty's new, but bridgeless i believe it's not as big a deal since it's hitting the coil, but i'd still throw an extra drop on since it'll be so dry.

___

you're going to get about 4-6 good hits before you need to drip each time. you'll know when it needs a topping off because the flavor will diminish and you'll get a hotter more burnt hit. you'll learn to anticipate that.

---

if you end up throwing too much in you get the gurgling of course and you'll just sense that it's about to flood by the draw. a good draw IMO is when you hear it just on the verge of crackling but maybe it only crackles a tiny tiny bit and the draw just feels good. that's what i go for anyway. when it's flooded it's just like kind of silent or you get the gurgle and your vapor production is diminished a lot .that's a sign. just take off the atty and stick the base of the atty into a paper towel and blow a couple times into the mouth portion.

then be sure to treat it like a newer atty at that point and put an extra drop or two in there before hitting again.

--

don't worry about dry burning so much. they're just saying not to do that when you first get it since people do that to get primer off sometimes and stuff. these don't have primer, so they're just sayin to add liquid right away.

--

oh and every morning or after the atty's been sitting around for a while, i usually just blow out the juice anyway, even if it's not flooded or whatever. if i don't i end up floodin' it out with the normal couple drops sometimes and it seems to hit better if i just start over like that.

oh and i always just take the drip tip off before i drip, oddly enough. so i know my juice is hitting the coil or bridge directly. it's just quicker too for me and i hate whenever i drip into my tip the juice gets all stuck on the sides of it as it goes down. more chance of juice in mouth and not as efficient in my opinion.

Drip shields are pointless if you are not using a 901 atomizer. The way 901 atomizers are built in a way that a drip shield will not only protect the battery from the mess, but will actually feed the surplus liquid back into the atomizer.

With what you bought, just be mindful of how much liquid you are using and keep a tissue handy in case of leaking.

I bought a drip shield for my 510 atomizer and it was a bust. I used it once and it is just sitting in the back of a drawer.

I use a 510 atty to drip with every day. I agree with everything JiveRock said. I have been doing this for a straight month since I started vaping. I always have a folded papertowel with me. I do not own a drip shield. The number of drops depends on how thick the juice is. I still will flood the atty when I change juices. It takes practice, but you can't beat the flavor. When I use my Evods, the flavor is a little muted in comparison. I prefer to drip. Good luck and practice for a few days. Don't give up on the dripping, it's the best way to taste flavors.
