American College of Chest Physicians most disgraceful move of the year

A recent press release put out by the American College of Chest Physicians has caused the debate regarding the ‘unknown unknowns’ of e-cigarettes to rear its head yet again. The College are calling for severe restrictions on electronic cigarettes until their full health impacts are known.

It would appear that all the current data that shows that e cigarettes are of a magnitude less harmful than tobacco cigarettes does not hold water for them.

Could this decision also be a remnant of the ‘light’ cigarettes fiasco when the tobacco industry led medics and regulators to believe that ‘light’ tobacco cigarettes were less harmful; something that today we know is not true, hence the wariness around e cigarettes?

Yet e cigarettes are not light cigarettes, and many scientists around the world have carried out far more independent research on them, but admittedly the long-term data is not yet in.

However, writing on his blog. Dr Siegel questions the logic of the American College of Chest Physicians, calling it “ one of the most disgraceful moves of the year by any medical or Public Health group.” Dr Siegel doesn’t comprehend why they would want e cigarettes off the market; yet say nothing about the continuing presence of tobacco being freely available, when it is combustible tobacco that does all the harms.
He writes:
“The truth is that these groups are stuck - trapped in a blinding ideology in which science plays absolutely no role and positions are based on pure, raw emotion. And the emotion against anything which looks like a cigarette is apparently so strong that it drowns out even the most solid evidence of the life-saving potential of a product that resembles smoking, but delivers nicotine with only a minute fraction of the dangerous chemicals, and which, with proper manufacturing, appears to deliver only one chemical of any significant health concern.”

My personal Dr. (actually the wife and I's) is very interested in our health and well being since we began vaping and gave up analogs. I've taken one of my devices to him, he even tried it, was amazed at the flavor. Having some other health conditions Chronic back problems for my wife from an accident and two minor heart attacks accompanied with two stents for me and an injury related seizure disorder. keeps us seeing him ever 2 to 3 months. Since beginning to vape and at the beginning only cutting down on our analog usage. We both quit the analogs within 2 and half months. He has noted for both of us weight loss, we both vape in place of snacking most of the time, and enjoy the flavor of the things we do eat much more. Both of our lungs sound better each time we have seen him since quitting. My blood pressure is down, my cholesterol is down, the effectiveness of my seizure meds has improved to the point that he had decreased my dosage. Next visit if my blood pressure is still at or below the same reading as the last two visits he will cut my BP med dosage in half and have me stop in several times during the following two months and have it checked in his office (I will also do it every chance I get at one of those kiosks in any pharmacy I go into (he doesn't fully trust the accuracy of them) but it can at least be a guideline if I notice it seems way high or even higher than normal. After our November/December visit he is going to have my cholesterol tested again and possibly reduce to stop that med as well.

The way I see it, not only am I getting healthier, I am depending less and less on modern medicine to keep me healthy. To me that's a WIN WIN situation. In general both my wife and I feel better, are saving about 25% of the money we spent on analogs. That amount will probably increase due to the fact that we both have found what we like in the way of devices and juices.

We now are vaping 9 to 12 mg nicotine juice when we started it was 12 to 18 so we are slowly reducing that as well. In my Dr.'s opinion it is much better to be getting just the nicotine as opposed to the massive amount of chemicals and garbage that are in analogs.

Seems to me that even the medical profession is concerned about the money they will not be able extort from us if we as a nation of non smokers get healthier.
