An introduction & a few questions

I've been lurking the past few days and figured it was time to say hi *waves hi* and ask for some advice. The forums here have been fabulous to read through, and people seem helpful so....

My background - I've been a smoker for 20+ years, 1-2 packs a day. I love smoking, I love to chain smoke, and a large part of me has not wanted to give it up. My husband and I lost both his parents to cancer within 3 years of each other and since then, we've made 4 or 5 attempts to quit. The longest was 4 months, the average was 1.5. We used disposable Blu cigarettes each time. I hated them. They offered *just enough* to barely get by, but left me totally unsatisfied. Hence my repeat failure.

A few weeks ago I randomly came across vape pens online, and an hour later had ordered Halo Triton kits. It's been 15 days since they arrived, and we've not had a single cigarette since *pats back*. There have been cravings, withdrawals, and temper tantrums on my part, but no desire to go back to cigarettes. We both feel this is a sustainable solution.

He is doing fabulous; perfectly happy to simply replace the reds with the Triton. He tried one tobacco flavor, gave it the thumbs up, no fuss. He sucks.

I was enamored with my first puff. I filled every tank with a new juice and chain vaped like a fiend. First few days were fabulous, I could taste the little nuances of the different flavors and I was happy. I had some physical withdrawals, but they were outweighed by the pleasure I got from vaping. About 6 days into it, I had a dulling in the flavors. It started out as questionable, and quickly became undeniable. By day 8, everything was completely tasteless. My mouth is a dead zone, a dry desert tundra. With the help of these forums, I figured out I had vapors tongue. It's annoying, but an inconvenience at worst. I know it'll pass.

Day 9 my teeth began to hurt, enough so that I commented (ie complained) multiple times. By day 10 it was full blown painful. I've always had sensitive teeth, but there's only been 2 things that trigger an extreme episode: ice cream and tooth whitening cream. It's a very district pain; not a toothache and not mild. I can add vaping to my list of painful teeth triggers now.

I'm on day 15 and still have highly sensitive teeth and vapers tongue. Not only do I get zero pleasure from vaping now, but it's in the red. I'm so uncomfortable! I've no physical or mental desire to go back to cigarettes and I see vaping as a permanent solution, but I have a few issues to get through. So on with my questions....

Tooth pain: any suggestions? Anything beyond the typical biotene, sensadyne, drinking water, brushing, etc, I would be thrilled to hear it. I've read several cases where people have reported this type of pain, but very little follow through. Was it just time that helped clear it? Does it even go away or do some people have to quit vaping because of it? I went to the dentist yesterday, my teeth and gums are a-ok. He has me doing a twice daily 1-hour fluoride soak, I'm to report back beginning of next week. I'm on day 2 of that treatment and there's no change in sensitivity yet.

Vapors tongue - again, any suggestions beyond the normal? I'm drinking plenty of water, ate pickles, smoked menthol, huffed coffee, the usual stuff. At this point I figure time is my only friend. Anyone go well beyond the few days norm, and what did you do to relieve it? Even if only temporarily? Although only an inconvenience, I do worry, I've got no signs of this letting up. Anyone try Moriya's Mix by Digby? Sounds nasty, but claims it to cure the tongue. I figure it's a gimmick.

My set up - I'm currently using a Halo Triton, which I really enjoy. I thought maybe the heat from it being a top coil tank could be generating too much heat on my teeth so I went to a local shop and found cheap bottom coil tank (it was the only one) that fit my battery. It has helped, but minimally. Any suggestions for a tank that'll fit it? I should add that today I ordered a MVP 2 and Aspire Nautilus for home, general consensus seemed it was the best beginner setup. Will I get a cooler vape with this? I want something small and portable too....would I be better off to give up the Triton and buy a new battery for my Nautilus tank instead?

I didn't mean to ramble so much. I figure it's easier to help when given a little background. I've done tons of reading over the last few days, the forums have been so helpful!, but I'm feeling frustrated. I'm hopeful I can go back to the pleasant experience I had in the first few days of vaping, as I know it's the solution giving up cigarettes for good. Any suggestions, advice, etc is much appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Ramble all you like and ask as many questions as you want to, you've started a life changing journey.

Regarding the gum pain, it's not from vaping as much as quitting smoking. Cigarette smoke is a vascular constrictor and gum disease you may not have known you had flares up when the blood flow increases. It happens to people who quit smoking with other methods. It sucks, I share your pain. Sometimes flavors with peppermint help and using Biotene (an oral rinse for dry mouth). More water is a requirement of vaping, but frequently so is a visit to the dentist.

Hey, I'm new to the site and new to vaping also. I also got the the halo trition. I just got my vv (variable voltage battery) and have noticed the flavors are a lot more intense. If you get a vv, it will be a good idea to get new coils (the 3.0-3.2 ohm). Like I said, I'm new to all of this also, so before you buy anything else, hopefully someone on here will have some good advice for you. Also with it sounding like some health things going on (im no doctor), I doubt it's anything with your system, and would be best to wait till those clear up first. Hope you can enjoy vaping again soon!

Thank you for the support ocelot, it's much appreciated. I've read quite a bit on the gums with smoking cessation, but I don't think that's my entire problem. I can't rule it out of course, but I've had no bleeding and the gums themselves haven't been sore. It's my actual teeth. Specifically the front bottom ones, although all of them are sensitive. Simply breathing through my mouth now is uncomfortable as the air flows over them. And it's magnified when vaping. I've been using biotene for several days now (both mouth wash and spray), saw my dentist yesterday, tried vaping peppermint and have been banging the water. So far I've seen zero positive changes. I realize the transition will take time, but I don't think this type of pain is usual.

I am sorry my suggestions aren't of any use. :( Should you figured out what the problem is and/or come up with something that helps, please share it.

I didn't know that vaping could cause tooth pain. I have extremely sensitive teeth as well. Anything cold like ice cream on certain teeth will cause an insane amount of pain. But I haven't had that problem at all with vaping. As for the vapers tounge, after a while of using the same juice I won't be able to taste it anymore but I switch to a different juice and I can usually taste it. I know you said you have a few different flavors. I have Space Jam Pluto and Top Vapor Island Punch. When I switch from one of those to the other I can taste the full flavor.

I know how painful having sensitive teeth can be so I hope that something that someone tells you on here works!

I've actually had tooth pain from vaping.
It's not fun, I think it was due to sweet juices. And holding my e-cig too close to my teeth. I know it sounds funny but I would move the ecig around in my mouth to help with the pain and take an over the counter pain reliever too.
You may also want to buy Orajel mouthwash and gel to help.
I also have sensitive teeth. I use sensitive toothpaste daily.
I like sweet desert and candy flavors.
Eventually my pain went away, and Vaper's tongue did too, but it took a little while like a couple more weeks. All I can say is to stick with it, it's been a year since I quit and my teeth don't hurt anymore. When I had Vaper's tongue it was a clue for me to drink more water, chew gum, eating helps too. For me I also change to a mint flavor.

From time to time I do get canker sores from biting my cheek...
I hope you get past the pain, it's so worth it!
Good luck to you!

I am experiencing some difficulties as well. Can you tell me what level of Nicotine you are using? I am wondering if getting to much nicotine in the vapor could be causing some of the irritations... I am using 24mg but I have some lower Nicotine on order... I hope that the lower amount helps...I will let you know if that resolves the issue for me.

Ed had the tooth pain when we'd started vaping after a few weeks, I thought he had an abscess and he had a huge sore on the roof of his mouth I got him some antibiotics and it did go away, placebo? not sure, but I couldn't find anything on tooth pain and I'd tap the lower left sinus (it was his upper rights) and he'd howl, face swollen the whole nine yards so I decided not to risk it.....then started reading all the symptoms of tobacco cessation (those being two big ones, it did last a few weeks, hang in there).

I had the fatigue (but I have that anyhow with my medical conditions) but it was worse! I just couldn't get enough sleep as well as a few others.

those halo tritons are a lot like the eGo/Visions 1300mah shouldn't be causing any tooth pain issues, but this is also some new territory here, not a lot of research out there. But the way I see it ..when it's a common thing, I don't believe in coincidences, it's probably the withdrawl from the tobacco as it does go away. Here's my thought on that, we know nicotine/specifically smoking causes nerve damage, you already know your teeth are sensitive (so are Ed's) so those nerves are waking up a bit, albeit a lot damage is permanent, but feeling more if you will...and that's why the tooth pain. That's just an educated guess, for what that's worth.(that and five bucks'll get you a cup of coffee yah know?) *lol*

sorry you're having so many problems, these folks are the ones to ask though.

good luck!
