Well if the battery isn't dented, torn, the top insulator flew off, or it blew up like an M80 after hitting the ground, I'd use it. But that's just me.
Worst I ever had happen with a battery was it flew out of the charger which sits on the lowest shelf of my Network Rack and almost slipped between the leg of the rack. U shaped channel steel legs. Almost could have shorted but it is a heavily painted surface and it was sitting on the edge of the wrapper so even if positive touched negative wouldn't have. My heart did skip a beat though!
