UPDATE:

I managed my first usable coil, forgot to take photos but I will next one. Came out at 1.6 ohms. One question/issue is that when I first fire the PV (MVP2) I get a slight pop and puff in the vapor. I assume I have a hot spot??? When I fired the coil it was heating from the center out and looked to be fine. Since this is my first I am not sure how to identify a hot spot in the coil and help? The Kayfun Lite + looks great on my MVP2 and the flavor is better than the IClear30's. I used organic cotton as a wick with 28ga Kanthal 9 wraps on a 3/32 drill bit.

Another question I forgot to ask. With RBA's is it better to run Voltage or Watts or does it not matter? Both my MVP2 and Vamo3 can run either. When I use tanks I usually run in power mode (8.0 to 8.5 watts). I'm liking the rebuildable's this could take my vaping to another level.

Another couple newbie questions. Now that I have my Kay-fun operational how often should I change out the wick? I assume the coil will outlast a wick. Second question is if I want to change juices do I have to build another coil or can I just swap out the wick and put the new juice in?

Ok, pops and puffs are common. Think of it as boiling the e-liquid... If you build micro coils correctly, the coils can sometimes block the vapor, and eventually it will create micro pressure until it "pops". It's common, and a sign that it's working well. :) To find out if you have a hot spot, usually one area of the wire will glow hotter and faster than the other, while the rest of it kind of goes Bleh. If it starts glowing from the center out, then you have no shorts. But if, say one side glowed bright while the rest of the coil didn't glow at all, then that's where your hot spot/short is.

Asking if you want Wattage or Voltage is better is like asking if a manual or automatic is better in a car. I prefer wattage, and I believe most vapors will. With voltage, it's like a stick shift in a car, you want to run in this gear no matter what. As you use a coil, and as you use your battery, the resistance and true voltage applied might change a bit.. but you'll still output x volts, but your wattage can varry with conditions. With wattage, it's like putting it in automatic mode. It's like saying I want "X" ammount of power going thorugh the coils. This will vary the voltage to get the desired wattage. Wattage is what determines how much power goes to the coils, and how it glows. few people prefer voltage mode because it as the coil changes, they can more accurately change the voltage to give the right power... sometimes devices don't do it as good as a skilled person.

IMO, you change the wick when you feel it's not doing it's job, or you start tasting a burning taste. If your wick stays wet, you'll be surprised at how long cotton can last. If you change flavors, then by all means change the wick. With the price of cotton, there's no reason not to. I also take that as time to clean the coils by dry burning it. Take the wick out, get the coils glowing, then douse just the coils in water to knock off any residue. make sure not to get your mod wet while doing that.

As much as I don't like watching rip trippers that often, he is quite knowlegable. He has a good coil cleaning tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3u2CEPkb3zc
